6. Another example is that you’re not supposed to eat anything with
your hands except bread, not even fruit.
(1)except在此处作介词，意为“除……之外都……”，表示某人或某物不包括在某范围之内。相当于but,表示在一个整体中,除去一个或多个(人或物)以外的其他全部都…… ,即强调不包括部分,一般用来排除同类事物。

(2)except还可作连词，意为“除了；只是”。
