Byron Howard, one of the chief directors of Zootopia Series, still remembers the day in 2016 when audiences first stepped into the all-animal city. “We had painted a world without humans, but full of human problems,” he says. Yet the moment the film ended, fans asked, “What happens next ” That question kept echoing in Howard’s mind for years.
In 2020 he and long-time partner Jared Bush locked themselves in a tiny story room at Disney Animation. Index cards covered every wall: some showed Nick and Judy on new cases; others pictured reptiles (爬行动物) who had never appeared in the city. “We wanted a bigger world, not just a bigger case,” Howard explains. Between cups of cold coffee they finally found the clue — why were reptiles absent from the first film Answering that became the emotional engine of the sequel (续篇).
To feel what their cold-blooded characters might experience, the team once spent an afternoon in the studio’s walk-in freezer, writing story outlines with gloves. “Our teeth chattered, but the jokes got warmer,” Bush laughs.
The next five years became a cycle of creation and destruction. They drafted eight versions of the opening, built an underground jazz bar for lizards, and even designed a giraffe mayor who spoke so softly that no microphone could catch him. Each time a screening flopped, the team tore the story apart and started again. “Giving up every draft felt like cutting off a piece of my heart,” Howard laughs, “but the city deserved the best.”
On November 26, 2025, when the finished film lit up the theater, Howard quietly slipped into the back row. Watching kids cheer for a snake who saves Judy, he whispered, “Welcome home.” The city that once existed only in sketches had grown, and so had its builder.
4. How did the team try to better understand the feelings of cold-blooded characters
A. Ask fans for suggestions. B. Read scientific reports.
C. Experience the cold in person. D. Turn to experts for help.
5. What does the underlined word “flopped” in paragraph 4 probably mean
A. Succeeded B. Failed C. Shone D. Changed
6. From the last paragraph, we can infer that at that moment Howard was ______.
A. Proud and moved. B. Nervous and uneasy.
C. Tired but relieved. D. Excited yet regretful.
7. What’s the text mainly about
A. Byron Howard’s great contributions to Disney movies.
B. The long and challenging creative process of Zootopia 2.
C. The reasons why Zootopia 2 was a big hit among audiences.
D. The interesting experience of the team designing reptile characters.

“I’d like to have your problem!” It is a common remark made to underweight people, who tend to awake more envy (嫉妒) than sympathy. However, underweight people have just as much trouble putting on the pounds as overweight people have losing them — they are also related to health risks.
The problem of the underweight is that they are unwilling or unable to eat enough, or they eat like a horse but still do not gain weight. They have a fast metabolism (新陈代谢) and can eat whatever they want without putting on kilograms. People with a slow metabolism deposit(存储) most of the energy they take in with food as body fat. People with a fast metabolism burn this energy off, producing heat.
To someone who is overweight, a fast metabolism may seem desirable. But from a medical standpoint it is a problem. Being underweight is usually accompanied by a lack of basic nutrients and/ or trace elements. This increases the risk of developing disorders such as osteoporosis, weakens muscle function and slows the healing of wounds. Underweight people are often elderly, have little appetite or perhaps are no longer able to chew properly. People can also lose a lot of weight due to a serious disease or chemotherapy (化疗).
A potential health problem is also sometimes responsible. Even young, healthy people can be affected when they feel stressed out emotionally. A classic case is lovesickness. Your stomach feels as if tied up in knots, your nerves are shaky, and after two bites of food you are full. Before long, your body is running out of energy, and you either become sleepy or more nervous — in any case you eat even less and then enter a downward spiral (螺旋轨道). What will you do when your trousers get baggy, your eyes start to widen, your bones and teeth start to stick out, your energy level drops and your sensitiveness rises
8. What is the main focus of the passage
A. The social advantages of being thin.
B. The benefits of having a fast metabolism.
C. The health risks and causes of being underweight.
D. The ways of gaining weight through proper diet and exercise.
9. According to the passage, which of the following is a health risk related to being underweight
A. Lost muscle function. B. Slower healing of wounds.
C. Increased risk of heart disease. D. Increased chance of slow metabolism.
10. What can we learn from the passage
A. Losing weight is harder than gaining weight.
B. Eating like a horse will definitely help people gain weight.
C. All the people are eager for a fast metabolism to lose weight.
D. A potential health problem may contribute to being underweight.
11. What is the writing style of the last paragraph
A. Lively. B. Dull. C. Serious. D. Formal.
D
A quote from the American writer, F. Scott Fitzgerald, reads, “To be kind is more important than to be right. Many times, what people need is not a brilliant mind that speaks but a special heart that listens.” Often, we shout to be right, to impress people with our knowledge and intellect, to show them we are the “superior know-it-all”. However, upon reflection, I find that Fitzgerald’s quote resonates (共鸣) with me more.
In this fast-paced, competitive society, most people would want to struggle for excellence, to be the best they can be. There is nothing wrong with this. However, there are certain individuals who take it a step further and make it their personal motto to exhibit their one-upmanship (胜人一筹) against anyone whose views differ from theirs. They believe intensely that their values and their knowledge are flawless. Often such people will out-talk those who disagree with them. While they may have seemingly won the argument, is there any real meaning to this Both parties are likely to dig their heels in and unlikely to admit they are wrong, until one side gives in or gives up.
In contrast, I believe it is far more important to be kind than right. Even if we know we are right, we do not have to press our views on others. We should in fact listen more, and learn to appreciate viewpoints that are different from ours. As the famed American educator Stephen Covey once said, “Seek first to understand, then be understood.” Often, we listen not to understand but to prove the other person is wrong. In an argument with someone, we do not even listen to what the other person has to say because while they talk, we are already mentally trying to find ways to shoot down their ideas. It would be far better to silence our minds and to actually pay attention to what the other person is saying.
Moreover, the insistence on being right all the time comes with its own extra damage — human relationships are hurt in the process. To prove we are right, we become judgmental. We consider the other person to be less worthy because they are “wrong”. To be right means we put ourselves in the front and center of the relationship, ignoring the feelings of the other party. Friendships and even family relationships become tense just for the sake of winning the argument, when love and empathy would have worked better to ease the tension.
12. Why does the author mention Fitzgerald’s quote in the first paragraph
A. To make a contrast. B. To present the fact.
C. To provide an example. D. To introduce the topic.
13. According to the author, what is the likely result when people argue to overwhelm others with different views
A. It helps both sides understand each other more deeply.
B. It boosts their self-confidence and communication skills.
C. They may seem to win the argument, but it holds little real meaning.
D. They can genuinely persuade the other party to accept their viewpoint.
14 Why do people often listen in an argument according to paragraph 3
A. To silence others’ minds. B. To argue against others’ ideas.
C. To seek mutual understanding. D. To appreciate different views.
15. What is the best title of this passage
A. How to Win arguments with Intelligence.
B. Stephen Covey’s Advice on Effective Communication.
C. The Importance of Struggling for Excellence in Society.
D. Kindness Over Being Right: The Value of Listening and Empathy.

On Friendship Day, her class organized an event, in which everyone had to make three presents and give them to their best friends. Lily was really looking forward to the coming Friendship Day as she was expecting gifts from her friends. She had made so much effort to be friends with everyone but in the end no one thought of her as one of their best friends.
