The Spring Festival
In China, the Spring Festival is a big event. People usually start preparing for the Festival one month before it comes. They prepare delicious food, and clean and decorate their homes. They also buy some new clothes. On the eve of the festival, the family all get together for a big dinner. They stay up and enjoy dumplings at midnight for good luck. On the first day of the lunar New year, children put on their new clothes and greet their parents. They are very happy to get lucky money from them.

Passage A
假设你是李华,你的美国笔友Jim对中国的传统节日很感兴趣,请你回复一封邮件,介绍一个中国的传统节日,内容包括:
节日名称:②介绍节日;③表达个人看法。
Dear Jim,
How is everything going Glad you take an interest in traditional Chinese festivals, I'd like to introduce the Dragon-Boat Festival to you.
The Dragon-Boat Festival, which extends over a history of thousands of years, takes place in the fifth lunar month of the year. It's believed that the festival was set up to remember Qu Yuan. It's an occasion for people, according to the tradition, to host events like the dragon boat race. Another important activity is feasting on delicious food, especially zongzi.
I consider it as one of the most important festivals in China because it always reminds us to love our own country.
Yours,
Li Hua

Festivals: The Color of Life
Festivals are like beautiful threads that weave families and communities together. They fill our years with joy, traditions, and moments we never want to forget—no matter where we come from.
Every country has its special festivals, each with unique stories and fun activities. In China, the Spring Festival is the biggest one of the year. Families travel far to get together, clean their homes to "sweep away bad luck," and eat dumplings at midnight. Kids love it most because they get red envelopes with money and watch exciting lion dances on the street. The whole country lights up with red lanterns, making everything feel warm and lively.
In Western countries, Christmas is a beloved festival. People decorate Christmas trees with shiny lights and small gifts, and Santa Claus becomes the star of the season. Families gather for a big dinner with turkey and pudding, and they exchange presents to show love. Even if it snows outside, the inside of every home is full of laughter and warmth.
Festivals are not just about eating or giving gifts—they carry important meanings. The Mid-Autumn Festival in China teaches us to value family reunions, while Halloween lets kids be creative and brave. These traditions pass down from parents to children, keeping our cultures alive.
No matter which festival we celebrate, the best part is always the same: sharing happiness with the people we love. They make our lives more colorful and remind us of the beauty of being together.
The Qingming Festival is one of the 24 seasonal points in China, falling on April 4-6 each year. After the festival, the temperature will rise up and rainfall increases. It is high time for spring plowing and sowing. But the Qingming Festival is not only a seasonal point to start farm work, it is more of a festival of commemoration (纪念).
The Qingming Festival sees a combination of sadness and happiness. This is the most important day of sacrifice (献祭). The Chinese at this time offer sacrifices to their ancestors and sweep the tombs of the dead. Also, they will not cook on this day and only cold food is served.
On each Qingming Festival, all cemeteries (公墓) are crowded with people who came to sweep tombs and offer sacrifices. Traffic on the way to the cemeteries becomes extremely heavy. The customs have been greatly simplified today. After slightly sweeping the tombs, people offer food, flowers and favorites of the dead, then burn incense and paper money and bow before the memorial table.
In contrast (对比) to the sadness of the tomb sweepers, people also enjoy hope of spring on this day. The Qingming Festival is a time when the sun shines brightly, the trees and grass become green and nature is again lively. Since ancient times, people have followed the custom of spring outings. At this time tourists are everywhere.
People love to fly kites during the Qingming Festival. Kite flying is actually not limited to the Qingming Festival. Its uniqueness (独特性) lies in that people fly kites not only during the day, but also at night. A string of little lanterns tied onto the kite or the thread look like shining stars, and therefore, are called "god's lanterns."
