Activity 5 Reading
Yesterday, I went to an amazing Chinese art festival. There were different stands where artists could demonstrate their skills and teach the visitors!
It was definitely an exciting experience for a foreign student like me. What caught my attention first was a 15th-century qinghua bowl in a breathtaking exhibition of Chinese . It vividly illustrated a dragon playing with a ball.
Then I tried some , that is, making images out of paper. It was difficult, but a lot of fun! With the help from the artist, I managed to make one in the shape of a fish. Meanwhile, a woman at the next stand was using a needle and some thread to do some . It looked so pretty! Then I went into a section decorated like a traditonal Chinese study, with two beautiful
of a pine tree and some bamboo hung on the walls.
There was also an old man writing Chinese : his writing was so free and elegant! Another man sitting next to him showed me how works. Chinese characters are carved into small squares of stone and stamped onto paper with ink. He made one for me with my name in Chinese -- pretty awesome!
I also came away with a beautiful embroidered handkerchief made of soft cotton fabric, and a porcelain cup and saucer painted in wonderful shades of blue.

Work in pairs. Talk about a Chinese art form that your home town is famous for.

My home town is famous for the traditional art of Chinese ink painting. People use brushes dipped in black ink and colored dyes to create beautiful masterpieces on rice paper.
Li Kuchan (1899-1983), a renowned Chinese artist from Gaotang County, was a master of ink and wash painting. Born into a farmer's family, he received training from renowned masters like Xu Beihong and Qi Baishi. Known for his large-scale flower-and-bird paintings, Li blended traditional Chinese techniques with Western influences. His brushwork was bold, capturing nature's essence with simplicity. He often depicted pine trees, bamboo, plum blossoms, and birds, reflecting his deep love for nature. Besides being an artist, Li was also a dedicated educator, teaching at prestigious art schools and nurturing talented students. Despite facing challenges, including wartime imprisonment, he remained steadfast in his artistic pursuit. Li Kuchan's works continue to inspire artists worldwide, making a lasting contribution to Chinese art.

Since it began in the late 20th century, the Contemporary Art Movement has raised questions and doubts, with people asking, “Is it really art ”
My bed, by Tracey Emin
This was the case in 1999 with British artist Tracey Emin's work, My bed - which was, quite literally, her unmade bed.
Then, in 2015, cleaners in an ltalian gallery threw away an art piece after mistaking the pile of empty bottles, cigarette ends and pieces of coloured paper for rubbish!
What do you know about contemporary art

What’s your opinion about it
1. Everyone can create art, whatever their background.
2. We can use art to learn about the world.
3. Art means different things to different people.
4. Everyone should try to include art in their lives.

"The 'Qingming Shanghe Tu' (Along the River During the Qingming Festival) is a masterpiece of Chinese traditional art. Painted in the Northern Song Dynasty, it offers a vivid snapshot of daily life in ancient China. The scroll depicts a bustling river scene with boats, bridges, shops, and people going about their business. What amazes me is its meticulous detail and the sheer scale of life captured. It's not just a painting; it's a window into China's rich history and culture. Foreign friends, through this masterpiece, you can glimpse the profound charm of traditional Chinese society."
