When my children were in school, each year at the end of summer, my wife and I would buy them all some new clothes for the coming school year. It is a habit that I have kept up over the years even though my sons with special needs are now both in their thirties and wear sizes larger than me. This year I got them both some new shirts and blue jeans to wear for the fall and winter to come. But when it was time to put them in the closets (壁橱) and dressers, there was just no space for them. There were too many old clothes from past years still in them. It was then that I decided to do some spring cleaning in autumn.
I started to pull out the old clothes that were still in good condition but weren’t getting worn anymore. Of course, I didn’t leave my own closet out either. Soon we had two large bags full of clothes and carried them to the local charity (慈善机构), believing they could help keep other people warm.
I think this feeling came from what I learned when I was a boy. When I was only eleven years old, my grandma’s old house caught fire and burned down in the middle of the night. We managed to get out but lost everything we owned. As painful as that experience was, though, it taught me a valuable lesson about just how little we need to be happy: All we really need is a little food in our stomachs, a roof (屋顶) over our heads, a few clothes on our backs, and love and faith in our hearts. The rest doesn’t add much. In fact, I found that having too many things can weigh you down and keep you from the happiness you want.
4. Why did the author begin to do the spring cleaning
A. To make his sons happy. B. To support the charity.
C. To sell out the old clothing. D. To fit the new clothes in.
5 How did the author probably feel after his first spring cleaning
A. Regretful. B. Satisfied. C. Tired. D. Calm.
6. What did the author learn from the house fire
A. Finding a safe place to live isn’t easy.
B. A house fire can easily happen at night.
C. Owning much doesn’t necessarily bring happiness.
D. Losing everything is the most painful experience in life.
7. What is the author’s purpose in writing this text
A. To encourage readers to care about charity.
B. To share a personal story showing a life lesson.
C. To describe the great challenges of raising children.
D. To stress the importance of doing housework as a family.

Scientists have found an unusual “hybrid” (杂交) bird in Texas — a mix of a blue jay and a green jay.
Brian Stokes is studying for his Ph. D. at the University of Texas at Austin. His work focuses on green jays —birds common in Central America and Mexico. So when Brian saw a photo of an unusual-looking bird on social media, he got very interested in it.
It was blue and looked similar to a blue jay, a bird common in Eastern North America. But something wasn’t quite right. Instead of having white face coloring like a blue jay, this bird’s face is black. The bird is medium in size, not as big as a blue jay and not as small as a green jay.
Brian got in touch with the woman who had posted the picture and she invited him to come and see the bird for himself. To study the bird more carefully, Brian brought a light net that he hoped would allow him to catch and keep the bird for some time. It took a lot of effort, but a few days later, he did succeed. Quickly, he got a few pictures, took a blood sample, and placed a tracker around the bird’s leg. Then he set it free, unharmed. Working with a biology professor at the university, Brian was sure that the bird was a hybrid. The father was a blue jay (common in Eastern North America) and the mother was a green jay (common in Central America).
Long, long ago, both kinds of jay s developed from the same kind of bird. But for seven million years!, they have been completely separate. So such a hybrid is very surprising. In the mid-1900s, the living areas of the two birds did not really overlap. But in recent years, as the temperatures have risen, green jays have been moving further north, and blue jays have been traveling further west.
Until now, the researchers haven’t given the hybrid a name yet, but they wonder if it should be called a “Grue Jay”.
8. How did Brian’s educational background help him in the discovery
A. It helped him catch the bird quickly.
B. It taught him to turn to social media for help.
C. It made him able to realise the bird’s uncommonness.
D. It allowed him to use the university’s lab for blood tests.
9. What can be known about the hybrid
A. It has a black face. B. It has a green body.
C. It is much larger than any other jay. D. It sings like two birds at the same time.
10. What does paragraph 4 mainly talk about
A. The steps Brian took to study the bird.
B. The way Brian made the woman believe him.
C. The reasons why Brian fixed a tracker on the bird.
D. The difficulty Brian had in finding the bird’s living area.
11. What does the underlined word “overlap” in paragraph 5 probably mean
A Disappear. B. Cross. C. Suffer. D. Remain.
D
Drones (无人机) have been used in farming since the 1980s in some countries. The earliest drones used in farming were very small and could carry out only a few tasks. But improvements in drones have given rise to larger models which are able to carry heavier loads (装载). Recent models are even able to carry loads of up to 100 kg. This has made drones able to do a wide variety of tasks and be used on farms of different sizes.
The first farm drones were expensive for small farmers. Although this is still true for drone ownership, prices have fallen sharply because of rapid technological advances and competition. Moreover, the rental (租赁) service provided by small businesses and farmer groups has made it easy for farmers to use drones at prices similar to or lower than those paid to farm workers.
People have found new ways to do farm work. First, in rich countries, people started using big machines like tractors to help plant and pick crops faster. This change started long ago and took over 100 years to reach Asia. Now, a new change is taking place with flying drones. It started in China less than ten years ago and is spreading quickly around the world. Two Chinese companies, DJI and XAG, produce most of the drones used in farming worldwide.
The drone revolution (变革) is completely changing historical patterns of farming technology spreading. In just 5 years, millions of farmers across Asia and beyond, many of whom are small holders, will be able to use this new technology. There are strong signs that drones can raise the efficiency and productivity of farming, improve worker safety, and better livelihoods in the countryside.
12. Why can modern drones be used for various farm tasks
A. They are easier to control. B. They are able to fly a longer time.
C. They can carry much heavier weights. D. They can work under more weather conditions.
13. What can we know about small farmers using drones now
A. They prefer farm workers to drones. B. They can get drone services at a lower cost.
C. They can afford to buy their own drones. D. They need to learn more skills to run drones.
14. What is the author’s attitude towards the future of farm drones
A. Hopeful. B. Worried. C. Uncaring. D. Unclear.
15. Which of the following is the best title for the text
A. How Drones Are Changing Farming
B. The History of Drone Technology Development
C. The Advantages and Disadvantages of Farm Drones
D. How Chinese Drone Companies Lead the Global Market

Self-care is important for staying healthy, especially when we’re busy with school, friends, and family tasks. An important part of self-care is saving time for yourself. This means you need to say “no” to some things sometimes. ____16____ How can you do it Here are some helpful tips.
____17____ If your classmates ask you to help them with a project tonight, but you have planned to rest, don’t wait until evening to say “no”. The longer you put it off, the more awkward it gets. Instead, tell them right away. This way, they can ask someone else, and you won’t feel stressed about letting them down later.
Be honest about your reasons. When you say “no”, don’t make up excuses. Lying might cause trouble later — your friend could find out and feel hurt. So just tell the truth. ____18____ They’ll understand that your needs matter too.
Suggest another time or activity. ____19____ If your friend wants to go shopping on Saturday, but you’re too tired, try saying, “I can’t shop this Saturday, but what about a short coffee break next Tuesday ” If you have too much schoolwork and can’t meet a deadline (截止日期), ask your teacher for more time. This shows you value their request, even when you can’t say “yes”.
It’s common to feel guilty (内疚的) when you say “no” at first. You might worry you’re being selfish (自私的) or letting people down. But self-care isn’t selfish — it helps you stay in a good mood so you can help others better later. ____20____

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I first started wearing glasses at age five. They were thick, black-framed, and many friends said that I looked like Ralphie, a boy in the movie A Christmas Story, always wearing thick glasses. Sadly, they were right. Over the years, my nearsightedness worsened, and my lenses (镜片) became heavier. An obvious depression formed on the bridge of my nose from the weight. I often joked that if the sun shone just right, I could start forest fires.
In my twenties, I got my first pair of thinner lenses. Wearing them felt like wearing nothing at all. Later, polarized (偏光的) sunglasses made the world’s colors clearer than ever before. I thought I had finally seen life fully until my father went blind. Diagnosed (诊断) with macular degeneration, he ignored treatment advice and soon lost most of his vision. Once active, now he could only sit in his chair.
An eye exam showed a small spot of degeneration in my eyes as well. At first, it seemed minor, but the next year it affected both eyes. Then came a cataract operation, which helped, but my vision problems were far from over. Just before retirement, I was diagnosed with myasthenia gravis, a disease that weakens muscles including those controlling the eyes. My eyelids became too tired to stay open, and unclear vision struck several times a day.
The final warning came at a neuro-ophthalmologist’s office. Covering my left eye, I read the chart-but a large black shadow blocked most of my vision. Overnight, I became legally blind in that eye. My fear of injections (注射) was greater than the fear of blindness, yet the only way to save my sight was through eye injections.
Both eyes needed treatment and I would face four injections in total. My heart raced as I imagined the process. I felt a mix of fear, determination, and hope, knowing that these injections were my only chance to keep seeing the world I loved.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I made up my mind finally.
