You probably consider calorie (卡路里) burning with training. You can get great calorie burning effects with the following exercises.
Running
Running is one of the best calorie burners out there. An average person can burn anywhere from 500 to 1,000 calories in one hour of running. Speed and pace are all factors that can affect calorie burning. But running uses every muscle group in the body, allowing you to burn more calories.

The first time my daughter, Maia, realized I was leaving on a trip without her, she was alarmed. “Why did you even have me if you were just going to leave me behind ” she sobbed. I tried to tell her that someday she’d understand the appeal of travel. But as my husband, Evan, pulled her off my leg so I could leave, I wondered if my solo trips would be worth the effort of going without her.
Returning home after a few days away, I felt energized and inspired. Maia was happy to hear about my trip. But this was the age of learning about compromises. As in: “You have to wear a coat, but we’ll compromise and you can choose which one.” She told me I could keep going on trips for work — but we’d compromise: she’d come with me.
When she was six, we flew to the Riviera Maya in Mexico. I was impressed by how cheerfully fearless she was when we swam in cenotes (天然井) or dived along a reef. In Fiji, nine-year-old Maia was attracted by the compassionate (有同情心的) women chiefs we met and decided she wanted to become a leader. During a trip to Sri Lanka when she was 13, she learned how the coin flip of your birth country can affect your opportunities in life.
When we finished up our travels and returned home to Vancouver for her high school education, it shouldn’t have come as a surprise to learn that our daughter had other ideas. Maia was thrilled when, after months of interviews, she was awarded a place to finish high school at Waterford Kamhlaba United World College of Southern Africa.
But it was during that first airport goodbye that I realized it was my turn to be left pared to the goofy 17-year-old I’d bid goodbye to, the 21-year-old woman who came home from high school in Africa and, later, from university in France, seemed mature and unfamiliar.
24. How did Maia feel the first time she realized her mom was leaving on a trip without her
A. Sad. B. Amazed. C. Confused. D. Excited.
25. What does the author want to tell in paragraph 3
A. Maia’s joy of travel. B. Maia’s travel experiences.
C. Maia’s impression on travel. D. Maia’s bravery during her travels.
26. What did Maria do for high school education after returning home to Vancouver
A. Maia finished high school in Vancouver. B. Maia got an award in high school.
C. Maia applied for a school in Africa. D. Maia went on travelling in Southern Africa.
27 What can we learn from the passage
A. Travel shapes a person. B. Life is like a journey.
C. All roads lead to Rome. D. Parents are the best teachers.
C
On a summer day in 2019, Raj Patel and his friend Sally Blake walked past a pool. It was filled with smelly algae (水藻), making it hard for workers to clean up. So the two 17-year-old students from Chicago decided to create a robot to deal with this problem. On Aug 19, the 18th Science and Environment Invention Award was announced. Patel and Blake’s invention of a water surface cleaning robot received the Gold Award.
It took them about four years to finish the robot. The robot moves like a boat and can be controlled from far away on the waterside. To collect garbage, the robot has two plates as “hands”. Then a conveyor belt is used for sending the garbage to a basket. “There is also a heating sheet under the belt to help dry the garbage and make it easy to deal with,” said Patel.
Compared to other robots of its kind, their robot is small, light and eco-friendly. “It has a solar panel (太阳能电池板) set on top,” said Blake.
The journey to build their robot was full of difficulties. But they worked hard to deal with these problems. One challenge was the balance of the boat. “It used to be heavy and easy to turn over. On the advice of our teacher, we changed the top part from steel to alloy (合金) to make it lighter,” said Patel.
As for their next step, they hope to make the robot work on its own. “We will continue to learn programming skills to make our dreams come true,” said Blake.
28. What inspired the invention of the cleaning robot
A. The desire to win an award. B. The difficulty of cleaning smelly algae.
C. The passion for cleaning robots. D. The terrible situation of the pool.
29. What is paragraph 2 mainly about
A. The robot’s benefit. B. The robot’s influence.
C. The robot’s development. D. The robot’s working principle.
30. How is the cleaning robot different from other robots of its kind
A. It uses the boats. B. It owns a solar panel.
C. It can work on its own. D. It changes some metals.
31. In which section of a newspaper may this text appear
A. Environment. B. Economy. C. Society. D. Entertainment.

That person was a young lady in her twenties. After eating, she went to the restroom. Without realizing, she had left her handphone on the table. Five minutes later, she came out and walked out of the cafe without looking back.
Mary saw the handphone on the table. She quickly told Keith, “Keith, the girl left behind her handphone.”
Keith looked at the handphone. It took his breath away. It was one of the latest models on the market. Keith had always wanted a handphone. But his parents had told him, “You don’t need one. You can always use the house phone.”
He stared at it for some minutes. Then he said slowly, pausing on every word, “I want to take the handphone.”
Mary could not believe her ears. She merely stared at her brother. “You can’t! What if the owner comes to look for it ”
Having made the decision, Keith quickly grabbed the handphone and put it in his schoolbag. Then, he took Mary’s hand and led her out of the cafe quickly.
Once back home, Keith locked his house door with trembling hands. Inside his room, he took out the piece of beauty. Oh, he liked it so much. Now he had his own handphone. Soon, he was polishing it happily.
But Mary told him, “Keith, you cannot keep the handphone. What will you tell Father about this He will ask you how you got the handphone.”
Keith said quickly, “I will say a friend lent it to me.”
Mary said, “Now you are lying too.” Oh dear! When had Keith turned so dishonest
Then Mary saw a house phone number on the plastic cover of the handphone. “This is the girl’s phone number. Why don't we just call this number We will talk to her and ask her to come and take back her handphone.” She was trying to talk some sense into him.

When I started primary school, I joined a swimming club and I went swimming twice a week. I had a lovely trainer called Anna. She encouraged me to enter competitions and I did quite well. Nearly every Saturday a group of us from the swimming club went to other towns to have competitions. That was fun. After I’d won quite a lot of competitions, I moved into the advanced class at the club and I had a trainer who was once an Olympic winner! He wanted me to receive training every day after school for an hour and a half. My parents didn’t agree because I needed to spare some time for my school work. But they let me go three days a week. I love swimming and I would really recommend it to everyone.

A. Maia finished high school in Vancouver. B. Maia got an award in high school.
C. Maia applied for a school in Africa. D. Maia went on travelling in Southern Africa.

There is a heated discussion about whether students should bring mobile phones into school. Different people hold different views.
Some argue that students should bring mobile phones to campus. Firstly, mobile phones makes it easier for them to keep in touch with their families and friends. Furthermore, they can relax themselves by listening to music after class. Others differ on this matter. They believe most of students can’t keep the balance between playing mobile phone and their study, which will distract them from their learning. What’s more, some students make friends online, which is potentially unsafe because there are always some people who are bad.
Personally, I think students shouldn’t bring mobile phones to campus, since they lack self-discipline and the ability to concentrate on studying with a phone available.

One afternoon after school, Mary and her brother, Keith, were eating at a cafe near their home. That afternoon, they had to share their table with another person.

【答案】
That night, Keith turned over in bed from time to time. The shiny new handphone in his drawer felt like a heavy stone weighing on his conscience. Images of the girl’s anxious face kept flashing in his mind — what if she needed the phone for an emergency What if she cried over losing it Guilt twisted in his stomach, and he sat up abruptly, staring at the moonlight streaming through the window. Finally, he whispered to the darkness, “I have to give it back.”
Mary was very happy to hear that. She hugged Keith tightly and pointed to the phone number on the cover. “Let’s call her right now — she might still be awake worrying!” she urged. Half an hour later, the girl arrived at their doorstep, tears in her eyes. As she thanked them profusely, Keith placed the phone in her hands, his face warm but his heart lighter. Later, he found a small sticker in his bag from the girl: “Kindness shines brighter than any phone.” He smiled, realizing true happiness came not from possession, but from doing what was right.
