Many parents wonder why their children should study art. To some, art is nice but useless. They consider it unnecessary to human existence. To others, art is important and meets some human needs that can’t be met any other way.
So what is the purpose of art
The earliest art-cave drawings and the like-certainly had some important purposes. This type of art was a record of events, a means of sharing stories, and a way to pass on information. People created primitive (原始的) art to show the world around them — pictures were usually of animals, birds, plants, and humans in scenes of daily life, especially hunting.
In recent centuries, art has become more complicated. The spoken and written words have become our major means of communication, so art can be more than just a chronicle of historic events or a way to share stories, although it still can be those things as well.
Through art, artists share their feelings in a way that brings on something from the viewers. The feelings one experiences when viewing(看待) art may be pleasing or not. The artist is trying to express something; it’s up to you to figure out what that is. Art is a conversation between you and the artist; they put themselves into their work, and you bring yourself to your explanation of it. Because of the feelings that art can bring on — feelings that usually cannot be brought on by other ways — art is necessary to human existence. Art meets our needs for self-expression, communication, and our desire for connection with other humans across centuries and cultures.
Now, we can conclude that art is very important. Since it is important, kids should learn it.
28.What do we know about the primitive art
A.It didn’t have any important purposes.
B.It was mainly about people’s daily life.
C.It was created mainly to entertain people.
D.It was meant to help people understand the world.
29.What does the underlined word “chronicle” in Paragraph 4 mean
A.Tool. B.Mirror. C.Guide. D.Record.
30.Paragraph 5 mainly shows art’s use of ________.
A.making a living B.explaining problems
C.exchanging feelings D.storing information
31.The text is meant to show that ________.
A.kids love art for a reason B.children should study art
C.art is very important to humans D.art is used for different purposes
D
There was a strange stillness. Where had the birds gone I was a spring without bird voices. Only silence lay over the fields and woods...
Rachel Carson was a scientist, but these lines from her 1962 book Siln Spring show her talent as writer. By imagining a world without birds, she aimed to warn the scientific community and the general public of the damaging effects of human activity on ecosystems-in particular, of the harmful use of pesticides(杀虫剂),such as DDT. She believed that the chemical industry was knowingly(故意地) causing ham to plants, animals and even humans, and wished to see pesticides used in a more responsible, limited and carefully monitored(监视的) way.
Silent Spring contains a lot of scientific research and case studies, which proves some programmes did nothing to reduce the problems they were originally designed to solve. And the 50 or so pages at the end of the book list Carson’s sources, showing how thorough and precise(精确的) she was as a scientist.
Carson’s message has caused a great increase in environmental awareness: the use of DDT was banned and the Environmental Protection Agency(EPA)was established in the US. Silent Spring was therefore regarded as a milestone(里程碑) in the launch of green movement in the Western world.
Silent Spring was not, however, received positively by everyone. Though supported by most scientists, the book quickly became a target(目标) for critics in the pesticide industry. They said Carson did not understand the science because she was a marine biologist rather than a chemist. Some also said that her work was more emotional than scientific. These were attempts to damage Carson’s reputation(名誉) and stop her work from influencing public policy, but she remained determined to stand by her research.
Personally, I enjoyed Carson’s book. Today, more than 50 years after it was published, the voice of Silent Spring is still ringing loud and clear.
32.Why did Carson describe a world without birds
A.To create a poetic atmosphere. B. To show Carson’s talent as a writer.
C.To raise environmental awareness.
D.To arouse(唤醒) readers’ interest in science.
33.What do we know about Carson
A.She is a committed(尽心尽力的) scientist.
B.She is an uninfluential biologist.
C.She is a well-recognized(公认的) chemist.
D.She is a productive writer.
34.What was the possible reason why Carson’s book became a target for critics
A.She couldn’t control her emotion. B.She went against science.
C.She lacked scientific spirit. D.She threatened their profit.
35.What is the text
A.A book review. B.A news journal.
C.A research article. D.A personal profile(简介).
第二节 (共 5小题;每小题 2.5分,满分 12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Traditions are different from culture to culture. Something that sounds rude in one country may be the most polite thing to do in another. 36.
Spitting
People think spitting on or at someone is one of the worst behaviors, and the police even consider it is a kind of attack. 37. When polite children pass by, their elders usually spit at them. Of course, they do this with best wishes. They wish children to live a long life. They also spit on any gift they are about to give. When they move into a new home, they first go outside and spit in the four directions
Flowers
Flowers are usually sent when people have parties, visit friends, thank others and so on.
38. In Germany and France, people use carnations (康乃馨) to decorate tombs. Yellow flowers represent hate in Russia and Iran, and purple flowers are bad luck in Italy and Brazil. 39. In France and Armenia, an even number (偶数) of flowers is for happiness and odd numbers are for sadness
Cleaning Your Plate
When we were young, our parents always told us to clean our plate and not to waste food. 40. In the Philippines, North Africa, and some areas of China, the host will put more food on a plate once it is clean. Only when a guest leaves a little bit of food on his plate, the host will think he is full. Or a clean plate means the guest can’t get good service.
To do the right thing, when we are in other places, we’d better respect and follow the traditions, even though we think they are strange.
A. Here lists some of them.
B. Even the number of flowers can be rude.
C. But sometimes it’s rude to give flowers.
D. There are a lot of ways to experience other cultures.
E. However, in some countries, a clean plate may make trouble for the host.
F. But in Africa, the members of the Maasai have a different way of seeing things.
G. Whether you’re indoors or outdoors, it’s rude to spit on the ground where someone might be walking.

写作(共两节,满分40分)
第一节(15分)One possible version:
“Selfie” has become a wellknown term across the globe. Today it is not difficult to find social networking pages full of photos people have taken of themselves.
With the rapid development of the Internet, an increasing number of people tend to take selfies and share them on social media, hoping to attract friends' attention and feedback. Meanwhile, the new interactive communication also helps build a more dynamic friendship. Moreover, the widely used applications which can easily beautify images contribute to more people sharing their selfies online.
Personally, selfie is a popular way of showing themselves, through which some teenagers may gain more confidence and have a chance to make friends. However, when obsessed too much with self images, teenagers may form a wrong viewpoint that recognition and comments from others are more important than life experiences. Therefore, only when we hold the right opinion that selfie is a way of entertainment rather than a part of daily life can we actually take its advantage.

Dear Mike,
I’m Li Hua, a senior 2 student. I am writing to apply for the volunteer to receive the students from foreign countries. As a culture lover, I think it’s a duty for me to offer the best voluntary service to our foreign guests and meanwhile promote Chinese culture.
I do believe that I am qualified for the job. Firstly, I have extensive knowledge of our school’s history and culture. Besides, I have a good command of English, making it easy for me to communicate with foreign guests freely. More importantly, I have been involved in a good deal of reception work.
Thanks for your time and consideration, I would appreciate it if I could be chosen for this job.
Yours,
Lihua

Text 10
Most people in the world enjoy good movies. But there are big differences between cultures about what makes a movie good. Ever since the beginning of movie-making in 1878, the industry developed quickly in America. (17) Many studios move to Hollywood in the early 1900s. Ever since that, America's Hollywood productions have been at the top of the movie industry. But France also started making films soon after (18) just around the year 1900.Other countries followed, and the movies reflected the cultures, just like food and buildings do. Hollywood movies often present the American value of personal independence, and many have positive endings. There are more sad and thoughtful endings in Chinesemovies.(19) Movies from Iran are usually seen by Westermers as very slow, but they are full of meaning. Popular Indian movies are often long and include a lot of cultural music and dancing. The group of people that make a movie—writers, producers, directors, actors —put their individual personalities into the art they are creating. Most importantly, though, each movie represents the culture of the society where it was made. (20)
