invent 指通过劳动运用聪明才智“发明；创造”出以前从未存在过的新事物。

爱迪生发明了电灯泡。
discover是指“发现”原来就有而一直没被发现的东西(如电、煤、石油等矿藏及新星、星系或科学真理等)。

这句话中that引导一个宾语从句，在这个宾语从句中主语是listening to something interesting，是一个动名词短语。
