Last weekend, I took my 4-year-old grandson Oliver to the park. He had been pestering (纠缠) me to take him to the park to watch the ducks in the pond; I finally realized his wish. I went in thinking I’d be the teacher to teach him about the ducks, but that day, Oliver ended up teaching me more.
He had no goals. 4-year-olds don’t need goals. As soon as we stepped 50 feet into the park, Oliver looked up at the sky, where big soft clouds moved slowly. He stood still, smiling, and found real joy in watching them. I’d long forgotten clouds’ magic: My mind was filled with things to do, but watching their slow movement could be soothing and reduce my worries and nervousness. Next, Oliver focused on the big trees, laughing as their branches shook in the wind. When a small bird jumped on the grass, he ran after it, laughing as though it were the funniest thing in the world. In that moment, nothing else mattered to him.
His curiosity never disappeared, especially when it came to fallen leaves. He hunted for them, big and small, treating each one like a treasure. He only saw them as tools for play. No screens or toys were needed. Nearby, kids played with their parents, and dog walkers passed by. Oliver waved at everyone, holding out his hand for high fives with 4-and 5-year-olds, who smiled and said hi back. His mix of real words and kid talk didn’t stop him — he just wanted to connect, without judgment, or fear.
The biggest lesson hit me then: live in the moment. He never asked the time, when we’d leave, or what would be next. Whether he was running after sticks, petting a dog, or running across the grass, he was entirely in the moment. That hour with Oliver reminded me of the wonder we lose as adults, and of many things we can learn from a child’s simple, unplanned joy.
24.Why did the author take Oliver to the park
A.To clean the park. B.To feed the ducks.
C.To act as a teacher. D.To watch the ducks.
25.What does the underlined word “soothing” in paragraph 2 mean
A.Dangerous. B.Confusing. C.Comforting. D.Changeable.
26.What do we know about Oliver from paragraph 3
A.He was afraid of meeting people.
B.He had fun playing toys in the park.
C.He had a strong curiosity about fallen leaves.
D.He didn’t get along well with other children in the park.
27.What can we learn from the text
A.Knowledge is power. B.Now is all that counts.
C.Friendship comes from getting together. D.Nothing is more important than education.
For many, Chinese characters seem like complex symbols. However, Lena, a 20-year-old American college student, views them in a unique way. To her, each character has its own story. She pictures“ren”(person) as a cat’s face, and “ceng” (once) as an angry robot.
Lena gained popularity when she spent only 30 minutes drawing “ceng” and posted it on rednote (or Xiaohongshu). Amazingly, this simple drawing got 40,000 likes overnight. Now, her creative artworks raise discussions about language, art, and cultural exchange.
Growing up in a diverse community with many Asians, Lena was surrounded by different languages and cultures. “As a child, I had Chinese friends. I was fascinated by seeing their names on lunch boxes. This language was so new to me, completely different from Western languages,” Lena remembered. This early curiosity remained with her and reappeared in college during a US-China relations course, which deepened her interest in modern Chinese culture.
Deep in rednote, Lena noticed more characters that looked like various objects. She describes herself as imaginative and highly perceptive, often spotting details others miss.
Besides drawing, Lena translates all her posts into Chinese to show respect to her followers. Her efforts have helped her make Chinese friends online, chatting about daily life and food. Some followers said Lena understands the beauty of Chinese characters better than many Chinese. “It’s because you’re used to them,” Lena replied, adding the opposite is also true. For example, she learned from Chinese friends that “orz” looks like a person bowing in apology, but it means nothing in English. “It’s something I never thought of. That’s the result of a non-native looking at unfamiliar characters,” she said.
As Lena plans to share more character-inspired art on rednote, her story shows a truth: language is more than words; it’s about connection and understanding the world from others’ perspectives.
28.How did Lena become popular on rednote
A.By posting creative drawings of Chinese characters.
B.By translating English articles into Chinese.
C.By sharing her daily life in China.
D.By having online chats with Chinese netizens.
29.What deepened Lena’s interest in modern Chinese culture
A.Her Chinese friends. B.Using rednote.
C.A US-China relations course. D.Drawing Chinese characters.
30.Why did Lena mention the example“orz”
A.To show non-natives’ unique views. B.To prove followers’ over-praise.
C.To explain learning difficulty. D.To analyze grammar differences.
31.What is the main idea of the passage
A.Lena gains popularity on campus.
B.Creative characters bridge language and culture.
C.Diverse background increases Lena’s interest.
D.Chinese characters: more than simple symbols.
Many people wonder when the best time to exercise is. Experts have different opinions about morning, evening and afternoon workouts (锻炼). To explore these differences further, let’s look at the benefits of exercising at different times of the day.
Dr. Jagim from Mayo Clinic Health System says, “Morning workouts make you feel like you do something good and start the day on a happy note.” After a morning workout, people feel good because of endorphins (内啡肽). Also, mornings are usually free from other things to do, allowing people to enjoy their afternoons and evenings without worrying about exercise. For morning workouts, Dr. Jagim says, “Eating a varied breakfast with carbohydrates (淀粉质食物), protein, and healthy fats is important. This gives energy for the workout.”
“However, for some people, waking up early to exercise is the last thing they feel like doing, and therefore, the case for evening workouts is more attractive. Your body works best in the early evening,” says Jake Erickson, a sports medicine expert. “This is a good time to exercise. During this time, your body has time to wake up a bit by moving around throughout the day. Also, your body uses oxygen better in the evening. This helps you use your energy more efficiently (高效地) when you exercise.”
A study with over 90,000 people found that exercising in the afternoon is better for your heart and helps you live longer than exercising in the morning or evening. This is especially true for older people. Dr. Gende at Mayo Clinic Health System says that morning workouts might not be good for people who work late shifts or stay up late. For them, it’s better to sleep more in the morning and then do a workout in the middle of the day or early afternoon before their next shift.
While science gives ideas, experts agree the best time matches personal plans and energy. Keeping exercising is more important than timing.
32.What does Dr. Jagim suggest for morning workouts
A.Taking in more fats. B.Drinking enough water.
C.Having a healthy breakfast. D.Avoiding staying up late.
33.What might Jake Erickson agree with
A.Evening workouts suit late risers better.
B.The later night exercisers wake up, the better.
C.Morning workouts benefit night workers a lot.
D.All people’s bodies work best in the late evening.
34.Which group benefits most from afternoon workouts according to paragraph 4
A.Older people. B.Teenagers. C.Children. D.Young women.
35.Where is this passage most probably taken from
A.A cook book. B.A health magazine. C.A sportsman’s diary. D.An education news.
Paris is a perfect travel destination with its food, drinks, shop malls and sightseeing spots. But some people are worried about the high cost. 36
Forget the large international hotels in the centre. 37 There are many hotels just two blocks away from the main tourist attractions, which cost as little as US $35 a night each, including breakfast. The real surprise is living among French people and experiencing their life.
Seek out small, local cafes when you want a meal. They are at every street corner in the less fancy parts of town. 38 Many have prices as low as US $9 or US $10. Drinks with meals are more expensive but there are some reasonable alternatives (替代). House wine is good: perhaps a couple of dollars per glass. Coffee, thick and lovely, costs US $2.50 a cup. That totals less than $15 per person for dinner and drinks.
Getting around Paris is easy and inexpensive. 39 But when you start to tire, take the train. Subway tickets for anywhere across the city cost around a dollar a trip and even less if you buy a multiple-ticket book. The system is quick and efficient. All the maps and signposts are easy to understand.
The tickets to Paris’ attractions are not costly. Passes can be bought at major subway stations and elsewhere. The Louvre is a must to visit without doubt. 40 You can’t miss the street architecture, the surrounding atmosphere and the daily goings-on in Paris. More importantly, they cost nothing or little to explore and experience.
A.Instead, get off the main streets.
B.The breakfast features a local flavor.
C.Walking is the best way to feel the street-life.
D.Quality wine and tasty food are hard to buy at low prices.
E.Actually it is possible to have a good time without spending a lot.
F.The Eiffel Tower gives a great view of the city for less than US $10.
G.Choose from the fixed-price dinner menus posted outside these cafes.

As I entered my freshman year of college, I happily moved into my dormitory (宿舍).
My roommate, Alex, welcomed me with a half-hearted smile. We exchanged greetings, but something felt strange. Maybe it was the way Alex’s eyes looked around the room. Or perhaps it was just the tension (紧张局面) that hung in the air.
Alex and I were as different as storms and sunny days. I was an early bird, while Alex stayed up late at night. I preferred a tidy space, while Alex kept things everywhere. Our disagreements grew from the dirty floor to late-night music.
One evening, after a long tiring day of classes, I returned to find my favorite cup broken on the kitchen floor. Alex stood there, looking at a loss. I felt very unhappy and started shouting at Alex. Words hurt each other’s feelings. Hate and anger filled the room. “If I had a choice, I wouldn’t live with you!” I shouted, and then hurried out of the dormitory, leaving Alex alone.
Days turned into weeks, and Alex and I continued to be like strangers sharing the same space. I dealt with my studies and spent more time outside the dormitory. Alex, however, seemed to stay in his own world. We almost had no communication with each other.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
But one day, I found Alex sitting on his bed, and his eyes were red.

W: No, not really. My mother put me in ballet classes at age six and I’ve carried that with me ever since. That’s really been my true foundation as a dancer.
M: I see. So what eventually led you to join a national dance academy Was it mainly your teacher’s recommendation
W: Not really, it came more from my own feeling. I needed to improve my skills further and reach a truly professional level. So it was a very personal decision.
M: That makes sense. Speaking of creating and not just performing, have you ever tried to plan the dance for a full show My friend tried it recently and found that it wasn’t just about teamwork; in fact, creating original work was far harder than he ever expected.
W: I completely agree with that. It’s a huge challenge to build a whole routine from nothing, with no one else’s steps to follow.
M: I can imagine. And on a different note, you’ve joined a lot of international competitions, right I’ve always heard they are great events for making professional connections and meeting people.
W: That’s true, you certainly can meet a lot of people there. But what impresses me most is that the atmosphere is just intensely competitive — everyone’s mainly there to win.

I’m talking about being polite and how it makes life better for everyone. When I was your age, my dad taught me these simple rules. These rules improved my life in school and work, so I want to share them with you all as well.
First, never laugh at others when they make mistakes. Second, always let people speak and listen to them closely. And most importantly, treat others the way you want to be treated. No need to write these down. Instead, I’ll share a paper with these rules listed. Before we review the next rules, I’d like some of you to present a story with the class about a very polite person you know.

Improving Our Handwriting
Good handwriting does bring us lots of benefits. It not only allows us to express ourselves better but also gives pleasure to the readers. What’s more, good handwriting contributes to higher scores in the exams.
There are two tips to improve our handwriting. For one thing, we can write Chinese characters well by practising brush calligraphy, which is a traditional and elegant art. It is known that many famous artists in Chinese history have left outstanding calligraphy works. For another thing, we can also follow copybooks in our spare time to improve our English handwriting. Don’t forget to ask our teachers for guidance when necessary.
As an old saying goes, “Practice makes perfect.” With effort, we’ll definitely improve our handwriting.

But one day, I found Alex sitting on his bed, and his eyes were red. Not knowing what had happened, I was taken aback, trying to figure out how to start a conversation after these days of cold war with Alex. Sensing my hesitation, Alex rose up from his bed, handed me a new cup and said in a low voice that he was sorry for breaking my cup. Touched by his sincerity and friendliness, I accepted the new cup, patted gently on his shoulder and told him that I shouldn’t have shouted at him either. Realizing that the ice between us broke, Alex added, “I know we’re different, but maybe we can find a middle ground.” Then we looked at each other and burst into laughter.
We started with small changes. Alex began setting an alarm to wake up earlier, trying his best to match my schedule, and he also managed to keep his side of room more organized. I, on the other hand, learned to be more tolerant of his occasional mess. Although friction still occurred between us from time to time, instead of avoiding each other, we communicated effectively and calmly to avoid misunderstandings. As days passed, we gradually opened up to each other, sharing stories about our families, hobbies and dreams. Our dormitory, once filled with tension, was now filled with laughter. It was from the incident that we realized our differences could actually enrich our lives.
