三、阅读单选(本大题共15小题,每小题2分,共30分)
(A)
①Sarah often helped out at her dad’s restaurant, but today felt different—she was given the responsibility of serving customers. Excited, yet nervous, she carefully carried a pork steak to Table 6. Her excitement quickly turned to anxiety when she saw Kassy, a popular girl from school, sitting there with her friends. Feeling shy and afraid, Sarah ducked behind the front desk to avoid being seen.
②Though an excellent student, Sarah often felt out of place among her wealthy classmates. She remembered how Kassy used to make fun of her and worried that others might do the same to her for working at a restaurant. When Sarah’s dad found her hiding, she didn’t know what to say. He suggested that she take a break.
③Turning back to the kitchen, Sarah felt bad for letting her dad down. To her surprise, Hannah, one of Kassy’s friends, came over and said that she knew how mean Kassy could be. She also praised Sarah for her hard work. Her comfort gave Sarah the strength she needed.
④With confidence, Sarah returned to the dining area and brought the check to Kassy’s table. When Kassy tried to make fun of her, Sarah and Hannah did a silly “crab dance” and laughed together. As she crossed the dining room, Sarah realized she didn’t feel embarrassed. Whether Kassy liked her family’s restaurant or not, it didn’t matter.
⑤As Sarah returned to the front desk, she felt a warm sense of pride, knowing the restaurant was special to her, no matter what others thought. She understood that hard work and kindness were what really mattered. From then on, she started to enjoy her new role with confidence and pride.

Marion Sheppard’s world became darker in her 40s. As a lifelong dance lover, she found herself seeing less clearly day after day. Anxious about how others would think about her, she seldom left her apartment and wondered all the time, “What if people look at me and treat me differently ”
After months of struggle, Sheppard made a brave decision: she would not stop moving. Pushing herself out of the comfort zone, she attended a social event for people with eye problems, only to be shocked to know that everyone could not dance and they even hardly moved.
“Oh no! That is not the way I want to live!” She bought a walking stick (棍子), lovingly naming it Tyreek—the name she saved for a son if she could ever have one. Although her eyes became worse in her 50s, forcing her to leave her job at The New York Times, Sheppard still held her love for dance. A turning point came in 2008 at a summer camp for the blind, where the 61-year-old taught her first line dancing class.
Encouraged by this experience, she went to a Manhattan community center, hoping to teach. Refused at first for worries of safety, Sheppard didn’t give up and finally succeeded in volunteering. Her classes quickly became popular, and she was hired by a company in 2012.
Besides teaching dance steps to dozens of students, Sheppard gave something far deeper: a sense of dignity (尊严) and independence. Through her encouragement, she created a space where her students could truly be themselves, changing not just their movements, but their lives.

Are you often angry What will you do when you’re very angry Some people may choose to let out their anger by shouting or doing some activities like running.
However, a study found that activities like running or boxing (拳击), didn’t really help to reduce anger. In fact, some of these activities actually made it worse. For example, they make people’s hearts beat faster. If your heart can’t slow down, your anger will not be let out easily.
On the other hand, some activities that can reduce your physical responses (身体反应), such as deep breathing and yoga, are more successful in calming anger. These activities make the heart beat slower, helping people to dominate their feelings successfully.
Interestingly, the study also found that jogging (慢跑) was possible to increase anger, while other activities like ball games and team sports could actually reduce anger. This suggests that fun and playful activities can help reduce negative feelings. So, if you want to make yourself feel better, some playful activities would be a good choice.
In short, if you’re feeling angry, consider taking a few deep breaths or doing a fun sport instead of shouting or running. These calming activities may help you reduce your anger.
