As a child, Brian Fisher dreamed of becoming a botanist. While on botany journeys, Fisher began to ask questions about the ants that he discovered on the plants he was researching. Since the other botanists were unable to identify those ants, Fisher reached out to an ant scientist to gain further knowledge. Then he became an entomologist, or a scientist who studies insects. Soon, Fisher set himself the goal of identifying every species of ant in the world, and he aims to construct a tree of ant species. Fisher, along with his team, has already succeeded in identifying a complete subfamily of ants.
It was his ant species tree that led Fisher to Madagascar, an island off the coast of Africa. During his research in Madagascar’s six-month rainy season — which is ideal for observing ants — he endured (忍受) severe illnesses, and he and his team faced frequent rainstorms, broken bridges, rough roads, and such challenges as pushing cars free of mud. Yet his work in that region has extended far beyond the study of ants.
“You cannot preserve a forest when the people living nearby are hungry,” he states, so he sought out methods to assist those individuals. He developed a new method for farming eatable insects, which he then taught to the people of Madagascar.
Fisher understands what is required to build a career in the field of science. “To survive as a scientist,” he explains, “you must be motivated, driven, and fully focused.” He also emphasizes that being a good writer is essential, as it allows you to “share your story in an engaging way that will make people want to read your work.” Once Fisher’s species tree is fully completed, it may unlock an entirely new world of ant research. However, two major challenges stand in the way: climate change and human intervention. How can we study ants if their natural habitats are disappearing Fisher hopes he can interest people in the significance of Earth’s biodiversity.
4. What initially contributed to Fisher’s changing his career
A. His childhood dream of saving ants. B. The aim of creating ant species tree.
C. His experience of studying plants. D. The ant scientist’s encouragement.
5. Which word best describes Fisher’s journey in Madagascar
A. Eventful. B. Debatable. C. Unsuccessful. D. Costly.
6. What does Fisher intend to do
A. Focus on scientific writing. B. Protect the natural ecology.
C. Improve farming techniques. D. Learn about ant species’ habitats.
7. What is the author’s main purpose in writing the text
A. To promote Fisher’s ant species tree. B. To explain Fisher’s research methods.
C. To introduce Fisher’s career philosophy. D. To outline Fisher’s scientific research.

Crowd scenes present a particular technological challenge for AI image creation — especially video. “You’re managing so many complicated details,” said Janae Jane, an expert on AI image creation. “You have each individual human being in the crowd. They’re all moving independently and have unique features.”
But the latest AI video generation models such as Google’s Veo 3 and OpenAI’s Sora 2 are getting pretty good. “We’re moving into a world where in a generous time estimate of a year, the lines of reality are going to get really unclear,” Janae said. “And checking a crowd scene’s authenticity (真实性) in a video — whether it is real or not — is going to almost have to become like a practice.”
A report from the global marketing firm Capgemini shows nearly three quarters of images shared on social media last year were generated using AI. With the technology becoming increasingly good at creating convincing crowd scenes, it’s especially easy to trick people into believing a fake (假的) crowd scene is real or a real crowd scene is false because of how the images are delivered. The challenge is that average people are watching content on a small screen, and they are not critical of what they see and hear. If it looks real, it is real.
“The more realistic and believable the results we create are, the more options it gives people for creative expression,” said scientist Oliver Wang. “But misinformation is something that we do take very seriously. So we are stamping all the images that we generate with a visible watermark and an invisible watermark.”
However, the visible watermark currently displayed on videos created by using Google’s Veo 3 is tiny and easy to miss, hidden in the corner of the screen. (Invisible watermarks, like Google’s SynthID, are not visible to regular users’ eyes; they help tech companies monitor AI content behind the scenes.) And AI labeling systems are still being applied rather unevenly across platforms. There are as yet no industry-wide standards, though companies said they are motivated to develop them.
8. Which statement may Janae agree with
A. AI boosts videos’ shooting technology.
B. Reality and AI videos will soon mix up.
C. Crowd scenes and AI are integrated well.
D. AI video models focus on crowd scenes.
9 What is the public’s attitude to the authenticity of crowd scenes in a video
A. Doubtful. B. Picky. C. Carefree. D. Dismissive.
10. What can be inferred about AI labeling systems
A. They need to be polished quickly. B. They are not necessarily worth using.
C. They are not applied sufficiently. D. They can make videos more creative.
11. What is the best title for the text
A. AI Is Getting Better at Faking Crowds
B. AI Videos Bring Both Benefits and Risks
C. Crowd scenes Present AI’s Weaknesses
D. Watermarks Are Solving AI’s fake problems

Your creative hobbies could do good to your brain, according to a new study.
The study looked at brain activity data from 1,240 participants across 13 countries. Researchers used the data to create brain clocks — machine learning models that compare actual and neurological (神经系统的) age and can find cognitive (认知的) differences in patients. Then, they applied those models to 232 people who make art, dance, play video games and make music, all with different levels of creative experience. Researchers found that those who practiced their skill regularly had signs of slower brain aging. The strongest link was found in tango dancers, whose brains were on average seven years younger than their biological age.
Even those who only engaged in short-term training in a creative activity saw benefits, the research found. “One of our key takeaways is that you do not need to be an expert to benefit from creativity. Indeed, we found that learners gained from brief video game training sessions,” says Carlos Coronel, the paper’s first author.
Those video game training sessions involved teaching 24 right-handed participants how to play “StarCraft II”, a strategy video game involving creative problem-solving. The training lasted 30 hours over three to four weeks. Another group, used as a control, was trained in “Hearthstone”, a digital collectible card game that has more concrete rules and requires less strategic. Those who spent time playing “StarCraft II”each week showed slower brain aging and did better on brain tests after their training period than controls. The more skilled the participants were in their chosen art forms, the lower their brain age, the researchers write.
The findings could have important public health implications, says Agustín Ibá ez, a scientist at Adolfo Ibá ez University in Chile. Perhaps creativity, like exercise, could be recommended to patients to protect brain health. “This is not relevant only for neuroscience, but it is a cultural and policy opportunity,” Ibá ez notes. “Our societies need to imagine healthy aging through both medical and non-medical domains, such as creativity, arts and play.”
12. Why did researchers make brain clocks
A. To develop new brain video games. B. To research various art benefits.
C. To measure participants’ activities. D. To identify brain aging differences.
13. What does the underlined word “takeaways” in paragraph 3 mean
A. Conclusions. B. Assumptions. C. Predictions. D. Experiments.
14. What does the study imply about “StarCraft II”
A. It requires brain power. B. It reduces brain health.
C. It simplifies brain work. D. It increases brain strategizing.
15. What is the study’s public health value according to Ibá ez
A. Advancing medical reform. B. Training local medical staff.
C. Bettering social interactions. D. Providing reference for policies.

Looking for a new job can feel challenging, especially when you have more experience or education than the job requires. You might be considered overqualified. This situation is common, but with some adjustments, you can still find a great opportunity. ____16____
One key step is to rethink your resume (简历). Instead of listing every achievement, focus on skills and experience that match the job you want now. For example, if you led a big team before but are applying for a specialist role, you might emphasize your individual skills and teamwork rather than your leadership title. ____17____ A simpler, tailored resume can help employers see you as a good fit, not as someone who will leave quickly.
___18___ You could talk about wanting to learn new things, contribute to a team, or find better work-life balance. For instance, you might say you enjoy hands-on work and want to be closer to the daily tasks. ____19____ This helps ease any worries the employers might have. Demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to learn new processes can be highly persuasive.
Remember: the goal of adjusting your strategy is to successfully secure a job position that fits your current life. By doing what is discussed above, you won’t just make “being overqualified” less of a problem. ____20____ These approaches will surely help you stand out as someone who has useful skills and is willing to work hard, turning this challenging job search into a hopeful new start.
A. What extra experience do you really have
B. Leave out details that make you seem too advanced for the position.
C. During interviews, explaining your interest in the specific role helps.
D. Then what adjustments should you make when looking for a new job
E You should consider your adjustments carefully before going to the interview.
F. Instead, you’ll turn your rich experience from a possible worry into a clear plus.
G. Just tell the employers you are excited about the job itself, not a temporary step.

Grace lived in a quiet neighborhood. One Saturday morning, she found a skinny brown dog outside her door. Its fur was dirty, and one of its paws (爪) looked hurt, the wound red and swollen(肿的).“I’ll call you Lucky,” Grace whispered, giving it a piece of bread. She wanted to keep Lucky, but she knew her parents might say no — they were busy with work, and had always worried that homeless animals might spread diseases.
That afternoon, Nelson, Grace’s elderly neighbor, saw her feeding Lucky. He walked over. “Grace, you shouldn’t keep that dog,” he said. “Last month, a homeless dog dug up my vegetable garden. It ruined all my tomatoes!” Grace felt sad, but she didn’t argue. She knew Nelson loved his garden — he spent hours every day tending to it.
Instead of giving up, Grace started visiting Lucky secretly. She brought it water, medicine and dog food and cleaned its hurt paw with warm water and a soft cloth, gently patting it. Lucky was always gentle; it never barked loudly or ran around wildly. One day, Grace was doing homework by the window. She saw Lucky sitting outside Nelson’s garden, watching a group of chicks that were pecking (啄) at the fence, ready to jump in and destroy the young plants. Suddenly, Lucky barked softly — just enough to scare the chicks away, keeping the garden’s plants safe. Grace smiled; she knew Lucky was trying to help.
One Sunday morning, a heavy storm hit the neighborhood. Wind blew hard, and rain poured down. Grace worried about Lucky. As soon as the rain died down, she put on her raincoat and ran outside. Just as she stepped onto the street, Lucky came racing toward her. It stopped in front of her, barking urgently and pushing her hand gently, as if urging her to follow. Curious and concerned, Grace followed Lucky all the way to Nelson’s garden.
