Instant noodles are a favorite quick meal when people don’t want to cook. Picture eating them while watching TV on a stormy night — pure comfort But many believe they’re just junk food that harms health. The truth is, whether they’re unhealthy depends entirely on how you prepare them.
The main issue isn’t the noodles themselves, but the common way people make them: pouring boiling water over dried noodles and adding all the salt seasoning packets. These flavor packets contain high levels of salt and artificial additives (人工添加剂), making this version unbalanced and unhealthy.
Actually, plain instant noodles aren’t terrible. They’re fried during production (which adds some oil and calories), but they fill you up well and provide quick energy when you’re hungry. To make them healthier, cook them properly: boil the noodles first, drain excess starchy (含有淀粉的) water, then use fresh water or broth (肉汤). Crucially, use only half the seasoning packet to reduce salt. Add vegetables like spinach or carrots and protein like an egg or tofu while cooking. This boosts vitamins and protein while cutting sodium (钠). This transforms them into a balanced meal.
So, are instant noodles junk food If prepared lazily with all the seasoning (调料) and no extras, yes. But when cooked with less seasoning plus vegetables and protein, they become a decent occasional meal. Remember: the secret is variety. Enjoy them once or twice a week as part of a diverse diet, and they won’t harm your health. They’re far less scary than people think — just upgrade your cooking method!
4. What determines whether instant noodles are unhealthy or not
A. The cooking time. B. The time of eating.
C. The preparation method. D. The balanced seasoning.
5. What is the major cause of unhealthy instant noodles
A. The dried noodles. B. The flavor packets.
C. The boiling water. D. The amount of oil.
6. What is the main purpose of the third paragraph
A. To defend instant noodles. B. To list harmful additives.
C. To warn about health dangers. D. To give cooking instructions.
7. What can we infer from the last paragraph
A. Instant noodles are hard to cook. B. Instant noodles are a perfect meal.
C. Instant noodles are not all waste. D. The less instant noodles, the healthier.

Some universities in China and around the world are making changes to the ways in which they deliver liberal arts (文科) subjects, with some subjects being removed. These changes have caused a lot of discussion in China with some questioning the long-term benefits of these subjects and others saying their removal is leading to a global reduction in the liberal arts.
Universities have the right and the responsibility to ensure their courses best equip their students to gain more chances in the job market. Education resources tend to be concentrated on science and engineering subjects that lead to better jobs, and this tendency (趋势) is becoming increasingly clear, driven by market demand.
Liberal arts subjects aim to improve life and society. In this sense, the more developed a society is, the more liberal arts are needed. Human development requires liberal arts that keep up with the times. Today, what we need is the kind of humanities and social sciences that can adapt to modern society, which is advancing in science and technology. Liberal arts must welcome the Internet, big data, AI, cloud computing, and so on. The change of liberal arts subjects in universities is unavoidable.
In modern university education, the humanities are increasingly serving as general education. Future-centered humanities education should not and cannot, promise a clear path from specialization to a specific career as natural sciences might. Instead, it should focus on offering a liberal arts education that equips future scientists, technicians, and professionals with humanistic qualities. This education doesn’t provide specific job skills, but aims to cultivate (培养) citizens with critical thinking, cross-cultural awareness, and the ability to think on one’s own. Liberal arts should have the ability to provide effective “public products” for society. They are not material or technological products, but thoughts, discourses (话语), and theories.
8. Why are some liberal arts subjects removed
A. They are difficult to master. B. Their benefits show slowly.
C. They need more resources. D. Their views are imaginary.
9. How can liberal arts subjects keep up with the times
A. By providing hands-on chances. B. By focusing on practical topics.
C. By using popular academic terms. D. By opening doors to technologies.
10. Which of the following do liberal arts aim to cultivate
A. Sense of humour. B. Independent thinking.
C. Self reflection ability. D. Self-learning ability.
11. What is the suitable title for the text
A. Are liberal arts losing ground B. Liberal arts: basis for sciences
C. Will liberal arts make changes D. Liberal arts: searching for truth
D
Imagine the richest people in the world. Instead of private jets or diamond rings, they show off something else: their completely empty schedule. This is the new reality. In an age flooded with smartphones and endless information, a new kind of luxury (奢侈) is emerging — the luxury of uninterrupted, freely available time.
In the past, people displayed success through expensive watches, and designer clothes. This was known as “conspicuous consumption (消费)” — a way of saying, “Look what I can afford.”
Now, a new status symbol is taking over. It’s not about what you own, but what you can ignore. Being able to turn off all phone notifications (通知), or spending a whole afternoon lost in a novel. This group is being called the “Time Millionaires.” Their real wealth is not money, but an abundance of (大量) time that belongs entirely to them.
The root of this change is the “Attention Economy.” Every social media app you use for free isn’t really free. You and your attention are the product being panies design addictive (令人上瘾的) features, using endless videos and notifications to fight for every second of your focus. As a result, most of our time and attention are cut into tiny pieces. We always feel “busy,” yet often feel we haven’t accomplished anything meaningful. It’s as if our time no longer belongs to us. In this environment, those who take back control of their time stand out. They usually manage it in one of two ways:
1.They are financially wealthy enough to use money to solve problems that consume time.
2.They are highly intentional about their lives, actively choosing a “Digital Minimalist” lifestyle and bravely saying “no” to digital distractions (分心之物).
This leads to a crucial question: Is this creating a new form of social inequality On one side are the “Time Rich.” They have high-quality time to invest in deep thinking, learning new skills, and building relationships. This leads to better mental health. On the other side are the “Time Poor.” They might be stuck in jobs that require constant availability, or trapped in a cycle of algorithm-fed (算法推送的) entertainment. Their time is filled, but they may feel empty and anxious inside.
At the heart is a debate: is it fair Some argue that embracing digital minimalism (极简主义) is a positive choice available to everyone. It’s not about money, but self-discipline. Turning off unnecessary notifications or setting “phone-free” hours costs nothing. This perspective encourages personal responsibility. Others hold that the ability to disconnect is itself a privilege (特权). Consider a single parent working two jobs — can they afford to “ignore” a work message For them, being “offline” could mean losing income or connections. Promoting digital minimalism as a one-size-fits-all solution might ignore these harsh (残酷) realities.
The concept of the “Time Millionaire” reflects one of the deepest conflicts of our time. While technology promises efficiency, we often feel poorer than ever in time. It asks each of us: Are you the master of your time, or its slave
12. What can be inferred from the passage about the “Digital Minimalist” lifestyle
A. It requires completely giving up all digital devices.
B. It is expensive to maintain this lifestyle.
C. It involves conscious choices to limit digital distractions.
D. It is only adopted by those who are financially wealthy.
13. The word “conspicuous” in paragraph 2 most likely means ______.
A. hidden and private B. wasteful and meaningless
C. obvious and noticeable D. practical and important
14. Which of the following best summarizes the main idea of the passage
A. The dangers of social media addiction and algorithms.
B. The conflict between time ownership and attention economy.
C. A guide to achieving wealth through time management.
D. The importance of digital minimalism for mental health.
15. What is the author’s attitude toward the argument that digital minimalism is a one-size-fits-all solution
A. Strongly supportive B. completely neutral (中立的)
C. Doubtful and critical D. Unclear and confused

Agatha was in the library, reading the Girl Detective series, when she noticed something strange. Her best friends, Timmy and Florence, were talking to each other in whispers while keeping a good, safe distance from her! When she waved at them, they looked away.
Things only got stranger in art class. Timmy and Florence went to sit at a different table from Agatha busy painting and glanced at her when they thought she wasn’t looking.
Now, Agatha considered herself to be something of a detective. After all, she had read many detective stories for children and even had an old broken magnifying glass(放大镜)abandoned by her father. When the rest of the class went out for lunch, she slipped to Timmy and Florence’s table and examined it carefully with the magnifying glass.
There was paint, and red and pink construction paper. What could they be doing This was definitely a mystery that needed solving!
After lunch Timmy and Florence chatted to her as if nothing was going on but they kept smiling at her in a slightly strange way. Of course, Agatha could have asked them what they were up to, and they might have told her -but she wouldn’t have a chance to become a detective!
On the way home from school, Florence and her mum happened to walk ahead of Agatha and her mum. Agatha saw them go into the bookshop. Strange, again. Florence didn’t read much—no matter how many detective stories Agatha recommended to her!
The next day at school, Agatha kept an eye on her friends and tried to work out their mystery, but they seemed determined to keep things secret. She asked them if they would like to play with her after school, but they said they couldn’t because they were busy. Even more mysterious…
When Agatha’s mum came to pick her up after school, she was so lost in the unsolved mystery that she hardly noticed her busy father was coming along, which was unusual. When they arrived home, her father said she could go into the living room.
注意:1.续写词数应150左右:
