Would you like to be taught by a robot or a computer Imagine an AI classroom: There is no robot at the front of the class, just AI programs on your computers and VR headsets(耳机). Human learning teachers are also in classrooms to give you a hand if needed. Here are some opinions from the Internet users.
AI is only as good as the information it learns. It cannot replace a human teacher, especially not when it comes to creative subjects like art or dramas. Human teachers also manage feelings. (Molly, Berlin, Germany)
AI teachers can pay attention to each pupil's needs and help them understand subjects which they find difficult. This is hard for human teachers in a large classroom with plenty of children. (Zhang Bei, Shanghai, China)
AI technology is already used in lesson planning, so why not use it for teaching, too It would save school's money. And there is a weak point of teachers in the UK---AI teachers could be helpful. (Oliver, London, the UK)
Using AI to teach pupils is a step too far and that students need human interaction(互动)in their lessons. No matter how clever AI is, it can't encourage children to work hard and achieve their dreams. (Jason, New York, the USA)
( ) 16. What can we find in an AI classroom
A robot and computers. B. Sports teachers and computers.
C. A robot and human teachers. D. Computers and human teachers.
( ) 17. Which of the following opinions does Oliver probably agree with
AI teachers are helpful and money-saving.
AI teachers do better at dealing with students.
AI teachers build a real relationship with students.
AI teachers can teach students as well as human teachers.
( ) 18. In which part of the magazine can we read the text
Health. B. Sports. C. Travel. D. Education.

According to the recent survey, China is facing an aging population because of the low birth rate(出生率). In 2024, the birth rate hit a new low---only 9,540,000 babies were born in the whole year. By 2040, China’s population will be 1.35 billion and about 30% of the people will be over 60 years old. The aging problem is getting worse and worse.
To deal with the big problem, ▲ For example, the Chinese government has developed some policies(政策) to make sure the old people have enough money to live on. China is also building care centers right inside a community. And they offer basic medical care, like checking elder people's health.
All around China, many people are also doing their best to help the old people. Li Dongmei, a headteacher of a children's school, has run the school for 15 years. But last year, she opened a new center for elderly people in Jinan. “Now more old people take my art classes than children did in the past,” she said. What's more, a store in Hebei Province also started selling more things for older people. “Young people come to buy gifts for their parents here,” a clerk explained. Even toy companies are designing(设计) special products for older customers, such as puzzles to help them memorize things better.
Business is making changes to help solve the aging problem as well---from new services to special products for the old. These changes not only create jobs for young people but also help society better understand the elderly. Most importantly, people of all ages can live happily together in stronger communities.
( ) 19. According to the passage, what problem is China having
The high birth rate. B. Little medical care.
C. The aging population. D. Few children's schools.

C. young people need to help the elderly. D. other countries have tried different ways.
( ) 21. What can we learn from Paragraph 3
Many people do things for the old. B. Many parents buy gifts for their kids.
C. More kids take Miss Li's classes now. D. Miss Li's classes are cheap for the old.
( ) 22. What's the purpose of the passage
To talk about special toys for old people.
To explain the problems the elderly face.
To share the ways that people help the elderly.
To introduce the care centers for old people.
C
I was not surprised to hear that someone made fun of my appearance(外貌) at my friend's birthday party. I laughed along, silently agreeing that I was not so good-looking. It made me feel uncomfortable.
Over the next months, I became increasingly self-critical(自我批评的), at first only of my appearance and then of almost everything else. When I kept paying attention to my appearances, I became unable to put myself into my schoolwork.
When a family friend got plastic surgery(整形手术), I told my parents that I wanted to do it, too. A nose job seemed like the answer to everything. To my surprise, my parents agreed and even thought of the surgery as a way to treat my snoring(打鼾).
Finally, the day arrived. I went to the hospital with my mother. In her mind, the surgery was small---she saw it as something quick and easy. But to me, it was more like a life-changing event.
Although I felt fine for the first few hours after I returned home, finally a huge pain was in my head. When I finally got my bandage removed, I cried the whole way to my home. I felt even worse. Over the following weeks, I began to regret. I could not believe that I had gone through this painful thing just because I was laughed at by some classmates.
It was not until I actually had the surgery that I realize that having a prettier nose would not make me feel better about myself. Now I realize that my self-worth is in many more valuable things: my sense of humor and the power of my mind. You might think all you need is a nose job to be beautiful, but what I want to tell you is that you do not need others to think you are beautiful to be worth something..
( ) 23. Why did the writer want to have surgery on her nose
To remain beautiful. B. To make parents happy.
C. To get on with her classmates. D. To solve her snoring problem.
( ) 24. How did the writer's parents opinions when she told them to get the plastic surgery
They were strongly against it. B. They reached an agreement
C. They warned her to study hard. D. They worried about the safety.
( ) 25. How did the writer feel after having the nose job
Worried but hopeful. B. Fine and confident.
C. Surprised but doubtful. D. Upset and regretful.
( ) 26. What is the writer trying to tell us through her story
Appearance plays an important role in shaping our self-worth.
Everyone should know their strong points and weak points.
Self-worth comes from inside instead of appearance.
Others' opinions about someone's appearance are important.
D
Growing up, we have heard a lot of stereotypes(刻板印象) of how sex(性别) influences interests and jobs. For example, boys do math better than girls, while girls are better at learning languages. We usually think this is because of differences in how boys' and girls' brains work. But is it true
According to past research, some parts of our brains can be different in size. Scientists used to think these differences might influence how well men and women think and do things. They discovered this by scanning(扫描) people's brains. However, in most of the research, researchers only scanned several hundred people. As said in a 2022 study, for such research to be believable, you would need more samples(样本) of scanning the brains of a few thousand people at least.
In 2021, the UK Biobank, a big database(数据库) used for research, scanned the brains of 40,000 people in the UK, providing new insights. It showed differences between men and women in the size of certain brain parts. About 33% of these parts were found to be larger in men, while another 33% of these parts were larger in women.
However, these differences were very small, often just a size difference in percentage(百分比). The differences are not big enough to form a conclusion(结论) from them, Camille Williams from the University of Texas at Austin, US, told New Scientist.
Also, our brains might change in structure(结构) and size according to our life experiences. For example, even if a part of a man's brain, responsible for doing math, is larger than that of a woman, it is possibly because he takes jobs which use math skills. So, any brain differences between men and women could be a result, not a reason, of different roles in life and society, said New Scientist.
( ) 27. How does the writer organize the passage
By listing different opinions about the same topic.
By giving examples first and then making a conclusion.
By comparing past research with new one all the time.
By showing a problem, discussing research and then giving the result.
( ) 28. What does the writer think of the past research
Scanning people's brains is not helpful.
It helps people better understand themselves.
Its result was believable.
Their sample sizes were too small.
( ) 29. What does the underlined word “insights” in Paragraph 3 mean
Understandings. B. Problems. C. Questions. D. Plans.
( ) 30. Which of the following sentences is true
Life experiences can lead to changes in the structure and size of our brains.
The differences in brain size are the man reason of different interests and jobs.
Scientists are sure that brain differences decide how people think and do things.
The UK Biobank found huge differences in brain size between men and women.

Would you like to be taught by a robot or a computer Imagine an AI classroom: There is
no robot at the front of the class, just AI programs on your computers and VR headsets(耳机).
Human learning teachers are also in classrooms to give you a hand if needed. Here are some
opinions from the Internet users.
AI is only as good as the information it learns. It cannot replace a human
teacher, especially not when it comes to creative subjects like art or dramas.
Human teachers also manage feelings. (Molly, Berlin, Germany)
AI teachers can pay attention to each pupil's needs and help them understand
subjects which they find difficult. This is hard for human teachers in a large
classroom with plenty of children. (Zhang Bei, Shanghai, China)
AI technology is already used in lesson planning, so why not use it for
teaching, too It would save school's money. And there is a weak point of
teachers in the UK---AI teachers could be helpful. (Oliver, London, the UK)
Using AI to teach pupils is a step too far and that students need human
interaction(互动)in their lessons. No matter how clever AI is, it can't encourage
children to work hard and achieve their dreams. (Jason, New York, the USA)
( ) 16. What can we find in an AI classroom
A. A robot and computers. B. Sports teachers and computers.
C. A robot and human teachers. D. Computers and human teachers.
( ) 17. Which of the following opinions does Oliver probably agree with
A. AI teachers are helpful and money-saving.
B. AI teachers do better at dealing with students.
C. AI teachers build a real relationship with students.
D. AI teachers can teach students as well as human teachers.

According to the recent survey, China is facing an aging population because of the low
birth rate(出生率). In 2024, the birth rate hit a new low---only 9,540,000 babies were born in
the whole year. By 2040, China’s population will be 1.35 billion and about 30% of the people
will be over 60 years old. The aging problem is getting worse and worse.
To deal with the big problem, ▲ For example, the Chinese government has
developed some policies(政策) to make sure the old people have enough money to live on.
China is also building care centers right inside a community. And they offer basic medical
care, like checking elder people's health.
All around China, many people are also doing their best to help the old people. Li
Dongmei, a headteacher of a children's school, has run the school for 15 years. But last year,
she opened a new center for elderly people in Jinan. “Now more old people take my art
classes than children did in the past,” she said. What's more, a store in Hebei Province also
started selling more things for older people. “Young people come to buy gifts for their parents
here,” a clerk explained. Even toy companies are designing(设计) special products for older
customers, such as puzzles to help them memorize things better.
Business is making changes to help solve the aging problem as well---from new services
to special products for the old. These changes not only create jobs for young people but also
help society better understand the elderly. Most importantly, people of all ages can live
happily together in stronger communities.

I was not surprised to hear that someone made fun of my appearance(外貌 ) at my
friend's birthday party. I laughed along, silently agreeing that I was not so good-looking. It
made me feel uncomfortable.
Over the next months, I became increasingly self-critical(自我批评的), at first only of
my appearance and then of almost everything else. When I kept paying attention to my
appearances, I became unable to put myself into my schoolwork.
When a family friend got plastic surgery(整形手术), I told my parents that I wanted to
do it, too. A nose job seemed like the answer to everything. To my surprise, my parents agreed
九年级英语试卷 第 3 页 共 8 页
and even thought of the surgery as a way to treat my snoring(打鼾).
Finally, the day arrived. I went to the hospital with my mother. In her mind, the surgery
was small---she saw it as something quick and easy. But to me, it was more like a
life-changing event.
Although I felt fine for the first few hours after I returned home, finally a huge pain was
in my head. When I finally got my bandage removed, I cried the whole way to my home. I felt
even worse. Over the following weeks, I began to regret. I could not believe that I had gone
through this painful thing just because I was laughed at by some classmates.
It was not until I actually had the surgery that I realize that having a prettier nose would
not make me feel better about myself. Now I realize that my self-worth is in many more
valuable things: my sense of humor and the power of my mind. You might think all you need
is a nose job to be beautiful, but what I want to tell you is that you do not need others to think
you are beautiful to be worth something..
( ) 23. Why did the writer want to have surgery on her nose
A. To remain beautiful. B. To make parents happy.
C. To get on with her classmates. D. To solve her snoring problem.
( ) 24. How did the writer's parents opinions when she told them to get the plastic surgery
A. They were strongly against it. B. They reached an agreement
C. They warned her to study hard. D. They worried about the safety.
( ) 25. How did the writer feel after having the nose job
A. Worried but hopeful. B. Fine and confident.
C. Surprised but doubtful. D. Upset and regretful.
( ) 26. What is the writer trying to tell us through her story
A. Appearance plays an important role in shaping our self-worth.
B. Everyone should know their strong points and weak points.
C. Self-worth comes from inside instead of appearance.
D. Others' opinions about someone's appearance are important.
D
Growing up, we have heard a lot of stereotypes(刻板印象) of how sex(性别) influences
interests and jobs. For example, boys do math better than girls, while girls are better at
learning languages. We usually think this is because of differences in how boys' and girls'
brains work. But is it true
According to past research, some parts of our brains can be different in size. Scientists
used to think these differences might influence how well men and women think and do things.
They discovered this by scanning(扫描 ) people's brains. However, in most of the research,
researchers only scanned several hundred people. As said in a 2022 study, for such research to
be believable, you would need more samples(样本) of scanning the brains of a few thousand
people at least.
In 2021, the UK Biobank, a big database(数据库) used for research, scanned the brains
of 40,000 people in the UK, providing new insights. It showed differences between men and
women in the size of certain brain parts. About 33% of these parts were found to be larger in
men, while another 33% of these parts were larger in women.
However, these differences were very small, often just a size difference in percentage(百
九年级英语试卷 第 4 页 共 8 页
分比). The differences are not big enough to form a conclusion(结论) from them, Camille
Williams from the University of Texas at Austin, US, told New Scientist.
Also, our brains might change in structure( 结 构 ) and size according to our life
experiences. For example, even if a part of a man's brain, responsible for doing math, is larger
than that of a woman, it is possibly because he takes jobs which use math skills. So, any brain
differences between men and women could be a result, not a reason, of different roles in life
and society, said New Scientist.
( ) 27. How does the writer organize the passage
A. By listing different opinions about the same topic.
B. By giving examples first and then making a conclusion.
C. By comparing past research with new one all the time.
D. By showing a problem, discussing research and then giving the result.
( ) 28. What does the writer think of the past research
A. Scanning people's brains is not helpful.
B. It helps people better understand themselves.
C. Its result was believable.
D. Their sample sizes were too small.
( ) 29. What does the underlined word “insights” in Paragraph 3 mean
A. Understandings. B. Problems. C. Questions. D. Plans.
( ) 30. Which of the following sentences is true
A. Life experiences can lead to changes in the structure and size of our brains.
B. The differences in brain size are the man reason of different interests and jobs.
C. Scientists are sure that brain differences decide how people think and do things.
D. The UK Biobank found huge differences in brain size between men and women.
