In recent years, the concept of “slow travel” has appeared as a reaction to the fast-paced tourism that dominates (主宰) the industry. Slow travel encourages travelers to engage deeply with local cultures, stay longer in destinations, and form meaningful connections with local communities.
One of the key principles (原则) of slow travel is to reduce environmental impact (影响). By choosing to stay in locally-owned accommodations (住宿), eating at family-run restaurants, and using public transportation or bicycles, travelers can greatly decrease their carbon footprint. For instance, a study found that tourists who engage in slow travel produce up to 70% less greenhouse gas emissions (排放) compared to those on traditional package tours.
Slow travel also allows for a deeper cultural understanding. Instead of rushing through tourist attractions, slow travelers take the time to participate in local traditions, learn about historical importance, and interact with locals. This not only enriches the travel experience but also provides economic benefits to local communities. In some rural areas, “slow travel” has helped preserve (保存) endangered crafts(工艺) and save dying traditions.
However, slow travel is not without challenges. It requires more planning and flexibility (灵活). As travelers need to research local customs, transportation options, and authentic(真实的) experiences. Additionally, slow travel may not be feasible for everyone due to time or budget (预算) limit. For busy professionals or families with limited vacation days, spending weeks in a single destination may seem unrealistic.
Despite these challenges, the slow travel movement continues to grow. Travelers are becoming more aware of their environmental and cultural impact, and many are seeking more authentic and sustainable (可持续的) ways to explore the world. As a result, travel companies are starting to offer more slow-travel options, such as longer home-stays and cultural experience programs.
4. Which is the benefit of slow travel
A. It can save money on traveling.
B. It can be more environmentally friendly.
C. It can increase the income of travel companies.
D. It can allow travelers to visit more places hurriedly.
5. What can we learn about slow travel from the third paragraph
A. It has little impact on local economies.
B. It focuses on interactions with travelers.
C. It discourages travelers from learning about history.
D. It may contribute to the preservation of traditional crafts.
6. What does the underlined word “feasible” mean in the fourth paragraph
A. Attractive. B. Comfortable. C. Classical. D. Practical.
7. What can be inferred about the future of slow travel
A. It will cost less as time passes.
B. It will only be affordable for rich travelers.
C. It may become more popular in the future.
D. It will take the place of traditional tourism entirely.
【答案】4. B 5. D 6. D 7. C

Children exposed to videos by caregivers for their calming or “babysitting” benefits tended to use phrases and sentences with fewer words. A new study from Southern Methodist University psychologist Sarah Kucker and colleagues reveals that passive video use among children can negatively affect language development, but their caregiver’s motivations for exposing them to digital media could also lessen the impact.
Published in the journal Acta Paediatrica, the study involved 302 caregivers of children between 17 and 30 months. Caregivers answered questions about their child’s words, sentences, and how much time they spend on different media activities each day. Those activities included video/TV, video games, video chat, and e-books, with caregivers explaining why they use each activity with their child. Print book reading was also compared.
Researchers looked at the amount of media use and the reasons provided by caregivers for their children’s media use. These factors were then compared to the children’s vocabulary and length using two or more words together.
The research reveals a negative association between high levels of digital media watching and children’s vocabulary development. However, the negative impact on language skills was lessened when videos were used for educational purposes or to foster social connections-such as through video chats with family members.
Kucker acknowledges that parents often use digital media to occupy children while they complete tasks. She suggests that caregivers need to consider what kind of videos and how much their children are watching and whether they can interact with them during this period.
Future research by Kucker and her colleagues will continue to explore the types of videos young children watch, how they use screens with others, and how that impacts language development.
8. What is the potential impact of being exposed to videos by caregivers on children
A. It enhances their vocabulary development.
B. It has no significant effect on their language skills.
C. It leads to the use of shorter phrases and sentences.
D. It encourages them to read print books more often.
9. What do paragraph 2 and 3 tell us about the study
A. Its research process. B. Its theoretical basis.
C. Its underlying logic. D. Its scientific evidence.
10. Under what circumstance can the negative impact be lessened
A. When children focus on tasks. B. When children get involved in the content.
C. When videos serve as entertainment. D. When videos aid learning and bond building.
11. What is the purpose of the last paragraph
A. To point out the significance of the study.
B. To bring out the focus of follow-up studies.
C. To present the practical application of the findings.
D. To discuss other affecting factors of babies’ growth.
【答案】8. C 9. A 10. D 11. B

As we know from living on the Suncoast, mangrove trees are all around us. They grow along almost every coastline, provide habitat for fish and other wildlife, protect our homes from destructive storms and erosion, maintain clean water, and fight climate change, thanks to their carbon-storing abilities.
Still, even with their immense beauty and vital importance to our community, mangroves are threatened in our area. To stand up for the trees, Suncoast Waterkeeper has teamed up with Exspanse, Artificial Intelligence, Dimensional Geomatics and New College of Florida on a mangrove mapping project, which will track mangrove growth and conditions along northern Sarasota Bay, Palma Sola Bay, southern Tampa Bay, Terra Ceia Bay and the Manatee River.
Training for the project starts this month, when Suncoast Waterkeeper and New College data science graduate students will learn how to operate drones (无人机), using photogrammetry to measure and map the local mangroves. (Photogrammetry is the act of obtaining precise measurements from photographs.)
The training, led by Dimensional Geomatics, will provide a standard operating procedure for community and student-based mapping using drone imagery. Exspanse, based out of Longboat Key, will then provide its modeling platform to New College data science students for the hands-on experience of building, training and employing models using data from the project. Those models will show the extent and density (密度) of the surveyed mangroves. Looking at the density of the trees over time will provide insight into the overall health of mangroves in the area.
The mangrove mapping project comes at a time when protecting wetlands is significant, as Manatee County is currently considering removing policies from its Comprehensive Plan and sections of the Land Development Code, which will allow for destruction of local wetlands and wetland buffer areas. Suncoast Waterkeeper has put together a petition (请愿书) which will be sent to the Manatee Board of County Commissioners. The hope is that public knowledge about the project will bring a drive for the community to preserve and improve the condition of local wetlands, because once they’re gone, they’re gone for good.
12. Why are mangroves important to local people
A. They’re the main source of food. B. They have positive ecological effects.
C. They’re the top tourist attraction. D. They can prevent destructive weather.
13. What is the purpose of the training
A. To explore the variety of mangroves more widely.
B. To raise the participants’ environmental awareness.
C. To teach the participants about the operation of drones.
D. To gather the data about mangrove for further analysis.
14. What could be a potential challenge for the project
A. People’s disinterest in public affairs. B. Over-reliance on the use of technology.
C. Difficulty in processing the data collected. D. Lack of support from the local government.
15. What can be the best title for the text
A. A Training Program for Drone Operators
B. The Importance of Wetlands and Wildlife
C. A Mapping Project for Mangrove Protection
D. The Role of Mangroves in Local Economy

Recently, our school has built a labor practice base, which has become a favorite place for me and all my classmates. Last week, we participated in the labor practice actively. At the base, with the instructions of our teacher, we planted various vegetables and flowers, and learned how to take care of them. Looking at the plants that we planted, we experienced a great sense of achievement.

Takehito was daydreaming when he heard a voice. “And what performance will you present at the talent show, Takehito ” Takehito’s fifth-grade teacher, Mrs. Klein, had spoken and was glaring down at him now.
Takehito had been staring out the window from his desk while Mrs. Klein paced up and down the rows of desks to ask each student what talent he or she would perform for the show. The rest of the class and Takehito’s teacher were now staring and waiting for his answer.
Takehito’s face popped beet-red. He didn’t know what to say. Luckily for him, the bell rang, signaling the end of the school day. Takehito quickly gathered his books and got up to leave, but Mrs. Klein stopped him.
Actually, Mrs. Klein worried about Takehito. Last year, he and his mother immigrated from Japan to Chicago. He had not made friends easily. Some of the students in his old class made fun of the way he looked and the way he spoke. Therefore, as his teacher this year, Mrs. Klein was determined to get Takehito to perform in the talent show, knowing that if he did, he would establish some friendships before entering junior high.
“What are you good at ” asked Mrs. Klein.
Takehito, thought for a moment. “I don’t know.”
“What do you mean ” Mrs Klein continued. “Can you draw Can you play a sport Can you play a musical instrument Can you sing
Mrs. Klein continued listing talents, but Takehito stopped listening as his gazing wandered to a poster on the wall. The poster showed a person doing breakdance (霹雳舞).
“Dancing. I will breakdance!” Takehito interrupted.
Mrs. Klein’s eyes lit up with encouragement. “That’s fantastic, Takehito! Breakdancing is a great choice. I’m sure you’ll do an amazing job.” Her smile was reassuring, and she added, “The talent show is three months away, so you have plenty of time to prepare. I’ll be here to help you prepare if you need it.”

【答案】范文
That evening, Takehito sat at the dinner table with his mother. Hesitant at first, he finally shared, “Mom, Mrs. Klein asked what I’d perform at the talent show, and I said I’d breakdance. But I’ve never danced before.” His mother looked at him with a mixture of surprise and pride. “Breakdancing, huh That sounds exciting! Let’s find you a dance class. You’ll get better with practice.” The following week, Takehito began attending dance classes. The sessions were tough; his muscles ached, and he often stumbled over the moves. But he remembered Mrs. Klein’ s encouragement and his mother’s faith in him. He kept pushing through, dedicating himself to mastering each step.
The three months slipped by in a flash, and the day of the talent show was finally here. Takehito stood backstage, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. When his turn finally came, Takehito stepped onto the stage, his heart pounding with anticipation. As the music started, he let the rhythm guide him, his movements flowing with confidence. His energetic performance was a burst of spins, flips, and powerful freezes, captivating everyone in the audience. With every move, the crowd grew more enthusiastic, their cheers growing louder. By the end of his act, the audience was almost on their feet, roaring with applause. Takehito’s face beamed with joy as he felt the infectious excitement of the crowd, knowing he had truly set the stage on fire.友好学校第八十届期末联考
