The Louvre Museum in Paris was closed to the public on Sunday “for exceptional reasons” following a robbery in which nine items of great historical value were stolen, French authorities said. No injuries were reported.
At around 9:30 am local time, a gang of four robbers broke into the museum’s Apollo Gallery — home to the French Crown Jewels and other treasures — by breaking the gallery’s windows.
Among the robbery’s targets were a sapphire necklace from the jewelry of Queen Marie Amelie and Queen Hortense and a tiara from Empress Eugenie. During their escape, the gang abandoned one of the nine stolen items, which was found damaged near the museum.
French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez, who visited the scene, described the stolen artifacts as being of “inestimable” heritage value. The Louvre and the Ministry of Culture are working to make a detailed list of the stolen items and assess their value. Nunez said he was “hopeful” that the robbers, who fled on a scooter, would be apprehended “very quickly.”
“We are well aware that French museums are highly fragile,” the interior minister said when asked about possible flaws in the security system.
Culture Minister Rachida Dati told the television network TFI that “organized crime today targets works of art, and museums have become targets.”
French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the robbery on X, calling it “an attack on a heritage that we cherish because it is our history.” He said the robbers would be brought to justice.
The last recorded theft at the Louvre occurred in 1998, when a painting was stolen in broad daylight and has not been recovered.

Eight-year-old Xiao Ming sat with his head in his hands, muttering to himself as he tried to beat an AI-powered robot at a game of chess. But this was not in an AI showroom or lab — the robot was living on a coffee table in a Beijing apartment, along with Xiao Ming. “It’s like a little teacher or a little friend,” the boy said, as he showed his mum the next move he was considering on the chessboard.
China is actively employing AI in its bid to become a tech superpower by 2030. DeepSeek, the breakthrough Chinese chatbot that caught the world’s attention in January, was just the first shot of that ambition. Beijing plans to invest 100 billion Chinese yuan ($13.7 billion; ?12.9 billion) over the next 15 years as it competes with Washington to gain the edge in advanced tech. AI funding got yet another boost at the government’s annual political gathering, which is currently underway.
This comes on the heels of a 60-billion-yuan AI investment fund created in January, just days after the US further tightened export controls for advanced chips and placed more Chinese firms on a trade blacklist.
But DeepSeek has shown that Chinese companies can overcome these barriers. And that’s what has surprised Silicon Valley and industry experts — they did not expect China to catch up so soon.
“DeepSeek’s rapid rise has caused hostile reactions from some in the West,” a commentary in the state-run Beijing Daily noted, adding that “the development environment for China’s AI models remains highly uncertain.”
But China’s AI firms are not discouraged. Rather, they believe thrifty innovation (节俭创新) will win them an undeniable advantage — because it was DeepSeek’s claim that it could rival ChatGPT for a tiny amount of the cost that shocked the AI industry.
8. Why is Xiao Ming mentioned in paragraph 1
A. To lead in the topic. B. To present detailed information.
C. To provide an argument. D. To illustrate China’s AI firms.
9. What can be inferred from Paragraph 2 and Paragraph 3
A. China has already had many successful AI achievements.
B. China invested 100-billion-yuan investment fund in January.
C. DeepSeek has suggested China’s determination to cooperate with others.
D. DeepSeek was just the first step for China to become a tech giant.
10. What is the attitude of some Western countries towards DeepSeek’s booming
A. Supportive. B. Unfriendly C. Indifferent. D. Admiring.
11. What do we know from the passage
A. Chinese AI firms could outweigh due to its less expense.
B. The cost of DeepSeek is much higher than that of ChatGPT.
C. China’s AI development will face no difficulty in the future.
D. All countries are making joint efforts in the development of AI.

Enough “meaningless drivel”. That’s the message from a group of members of the UK government who have been examining how social media firms like LinkedIn gather and use social media data.
The House of Commons Science and Technology Committee’s report, released last week, has blamed firms for making people sign up too long incomprehensible legal contracts and calls for an international standard or kitemark (认证标记) to identify sites that have clear terms and conditions. “The term and conditions statement that we all carelessly agree to is meaningless drivel to anyone,” says Andrew Miller, the chair of the committee. Instead, he says, firms should provide a plain-English version of their terms. The simplified version would be checked by a third party and awarded a kitemark if it is an accurate reflection of the original.
It is not yet clear who would administer the scheme, but the UK government is looking at introducing it on a voluntary basis. “We need to think through how we make that work in practice,” says Miller.
Would we pay any more attention to a kitemark “I think if you went and did the survey, people would like to think they would,” says Nigel Shadbolt at the University of Southampton, UK, who studies open data. “We do know people worry a lot about the inappropriate use of their information.” But what would happen in practice is another matter, he says.
Other organizations such as banks ask customers to sign long contracts they may not read or understand, but Miller believes social media requires special attention because it is so new. “We still don’t know how significant the long-term impact is going to be of unwise things that kids put on social media that come back and bite them in 20 years’ time,” he says.
Shadbolt, who gave evidence to the committee, says the problem is that we don’t know how companies will use our data because their business models and uses of data are still evolving. Large colle ctions of personal information have become valuable only recently, he says.
The shock and anger when a social media firm does something with data that people don’t expect, even if users have apparently permission, show that the current situation isn’t working. If properly administered, a kitemark on terms and conditions could help people know what exactly they are signing up to. Although they would still have to actually read them.
12. What does the phrase “meaningless drivel” in paragraphs 1 and 3 refer to
A. Legal contracts that social media firms make people sign up to.
B. Warnings from the UK government against unsafe websites.
C. Guidelines on how to use social media websites properly.
D. Insignificant data collected by social media firms.
13. It can be inferred from the passage that Nigel Shadbolt doubts whether __________.
A. social media firms would conduct a survey on the kitemark scheme
B. people would pay as much attention to a kitemark as they think
C. a kitemark scheme would be workable on a nationwide scale
D. the kitemark would help companies develop their business models
14. Andrew Miller thinks social media needs more attention than banks mainly because __________.
A. their users consist largely of kids under 20 years old
B the language in their contracts is usually harder to understand
C. the information they collected could become more valuable in future
D. it remains unknown how users’ data will be taken advantage of
15. Which of the following is the best title of the passage
A. Say no to social media
B. New security rules in operation
C Accept without reading
D. Administration matters!

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
On my last first day of elementary school, I felt my heart beating fast as I stepped into the classroom. My fourth-grade report wasn’t good, and “Needs Improvement” comments made me nervous and uneasy all the time. Although I worked very hard, I failed the final exam. Almost every time the teacher asked me to answer a question, my voice shook. But the moment Mr. Harrison —or “Mr. H”, as he insisted we call him — greeted us with a smile, my nerves disappeared gradually. “Welcome to the fifth grade! Take any seat you like,” he said with a warm voice. Young and energetic, he had a way of making even the shyest students feel at ease. I chose a desk near the front due to my nearsightedness, grateful for his approachable behaviour.
Mr. H was an encouraging class and math teacher and he made learning exciting with his fun ideas and positive attitude. It did not matter whether you were the best or worst student in the class. What he did made you feel you were special. I remember the day when Mr. H announced, “Everyone, we have new students joining the class.” He was holding a cage with three tiny gerbils (沙鼠). Everyone shouted with joy. “They’re part of our family now,” he declared, and indeed, under his guidance, the classroom felt like one. Smiley faces were his trademark. He always put a smiley face on the chalkboard, homework and test papers.
When I failed my first math quiz, he drew a smiley face beside my score and wrote, “Let’s figure this out together.” After class, he pulled me aside, “You’re smarter than you think,” he said. His words carried a quiet certainty that made me sit up straight. They weren’t empty praise—they were an invitation to see myself differently. “But we need to find a way that works for you,” he continued. And he meant it.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
He stayed late twice a week to help me with my math.
