A plan for 7A Unit 3 Task My school
Teaching aims:
Students can collect some useful information about the topic the need to write.
They can organize their ideas in a clear way and write a letter to introduce their school according to the outlines they make.
They can make a rule about how to write a good composition.
They know they need to check their own letters after writing.
They can check their companions’ articles according to the evaluation form and can give some proper comments.
Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Revision
Use a mind map to review the knowledge the students have learnt in unit 3, especially in Reading.
T: This week, we learnt a lot about Millie’s school. What school does Millie study at?
How does the school look?
T: How many classrooms are there in Millie’s school? What are they like?
T: Is there an art room, a computer room or a music room? How many? What can they do in those rooms?
T: Does she have a library?
What is it like?
When is it open?
What can they do in the library?
T: Where do they have meetings?
T: Is her playground big or small? What can they do there?
T: Can you use the mind map to introduce Millie’s school to us? (guide students to know what to write in the following writing.)
Step 2 Analyze the context of Liu Yi’s school
T: Millie tells us a lot about her school. Her penfriend Liu Yi writes a letter to her to introduce his school too. Read Liu Yi’s letter and find what Liu Yi tells Millie about his school in the letter.

Step 3 Lead in writing
T: Congratulations! You know “what to write” and “how to write” now.
T: Our school will celebrate her 15th birthday. A lot of guests will come. Please write a letter to introduce our school to them.

(Students give a lot of things they will write in their letters. The teacher will stick the paper with certain place or things to the blackboard.)
T: Can we put all the information in one paragraph?
Have a discussion with your group members about how to divide the information.

T: Different students can write in different ways.
Step 4 While-writing
T: Now it’s time for you to write. You don’t need to write all of the information. Please close your books, write in 15 minutes and write at least 70 words.

Step 5 Post-writing
T: Have a discussion with your partners about what makes a good composition?
