Marco Polo was a famous traveler from Italy. At the age of 17, he started to travel along the Silk Road with his father and uncle. Their journey lasted about 20 years! They traveled by boat, horse and camel.
In 1275, Marco Polo arrived in Beijing. He met the emperor and worked for him for 17 years. He was surprised by the development of China at that time. The Chinese had invented paper and discovered coal. Marco Polo brought some paper and coal back to Italy. He also brought back silk, tea and other goods. These things were new to the people in Italy.
Later, Marco Polo wrote a book called The Travels of Marco Polo. It told people about his experiences in China. This book made more people know about China and the Silk Road.

It is on the Yellow River. The Zhongshan Bridge in Lanzhou is the first bridge over the Yellow River. Dunhuang is also a famous city on the Silk Road.
