Marion Sheppard's world became darker in her 40s.As a lifelong dance lover, she found herself seeing less clearly day after day.Anxious about how others would think about her,she seldom left her apartment and wondered all the time, "What if people look at me and treat me differently?"
After months of struggle,Sheppard made a brave decision:she would not stop moving.Pushing herself out of the comfort zone, she attended a social event for people with eye problems, only to be shocked to know that everyone could not dance and they even hardly moved.
"Oh no!That is not the way I want to live!" She bought a walking stick (棍子),lovingly naming it Tyreek—the name she saved for a son if she could ever have one.Although her eyes became worse in her 50s,forcing her to leave her job at The New York Times,Sheppard still held her love for dance.A turning point came in 2008 at a summer camp for the blind, where the 61-year-old taught her first line dancing class.
Encouraged by this experience, she went to a Manhattan community center, hoping to teach.Refused at first for worries of safety,Sheppard didn't give up and finally succeeded in volunteering. Her classes quickly became popular, and she was hired by a company in 2012.
Besides teaching dance steps to dozens of students,Sheppard gave something far deeper:a sense of dignity (尊严) and independence.Through her encouragement, she created a space where her students could truly be themselves, changing not just their movements, but their lives.

Labubu dolls are hard to find.Even at the giant flagship store of their maker,Pop Mart,in Shanghai, customers are told they need to wait a week or longer. The lovely creatures, sold in "blind boxes",are loved not only by Chinese children but also by famous people at home and abroad.
For many years,Chinese shoppers liked to follow foreign trends in many areas. But now, they are turning to local luxury brands (奢侈品品牌),high-end make-up labels and milk tea shops.Furthermore, many of these brands are attracting fans in other countries.Chinese brands are beginning to win international fans' hearts with their unique products.
As buyers have become more careful about spending, cheap but good-quality local brands have grown popular. But lower prices are not the only reason for the love of Chinese brands.Sometimes shoppers are paying the same or even more for local products. For example, the best-selling drinks at Chagee,a tea chain (连锁) that was popular in New York in April, are sold for 15—20 yuan, almost the same as Starbucks's top drinks in China.
Chinese consumers are also now far less crazy about foreign goods simply because they are foreign. The rapid rise of Laopu is an example.Instead of copying Western style, both Laopu and Chagee have shown off their Chineseness. It has worked. The competition is not limited to China.Pop Mart now has stores in more than 20 countries, including at least 37 in America.Chagee will have more than 1,300 shops outside China by the end of the year,up from almost none four years ago.
Experts believe that the more foreign love these brands get,the more popular they become within China. The popularity of Labubu dolls on Western social media is thought to have made them even more famous at home.
26.What can we learn about Labubu dolls from the first paragraph? ______
A. People have to wait to get one.
B. Only Chinese children love them.
C. They are easy to buy in any store.
D. They are just popular in Shanghai.
27.Why are Chinese brands becoming popular according to the passage? ______
A. They are the cheapest in the world.
B. They have shown off their Chineseness.
C. Chinese shoppers followed foreign trends.
D. Chinese products have unique styles and good value.
28.How many stores does Pop Mart have in America? ______
A. At least 37. B. Almost none.
C. At most 20. D. More than 1,300.
29.What do Chinese consumers think of foreign goods now? ______
A. They don't like them anymore.
B. They are crazier about them.
C. They think foreign goods are of better quality.
D. They are less crazy just because they are foreign.
30.What is the main idea of the last paragraph? ______
A. Chinese brands don't care about foreign markets.
B. Labubu dolls are only famous on Western social media.
C. Foreign social media is not important for Chinese brands.
D. Being popular abroad can make a brand more popular in China.

Your behavior today could affect your brain activity in two weeks' time, new study suggests. These findings have great importance for our mental health as well as our attention, thinking and memory.
Our behavior and our brains are closely connected. And yet, most studies only offer a single snapshot of the connections between the two. "We know little about the response of brain functional connections to environmental and behavioral changes on different time periods, from days to months, " said Triana,a professor from Aalto University.
To study these effects,Triana and her workmates studied their own brain activity and behavior over a five-month period using a mix of brain scans, wearable devices and their smartphones. "We studied brain activity using FMRI (功能性磁共振成像),sleep and physical activity patterns using a smart ring, heart rates using a smartwatch, and mood using surveys done on their smartphones, " Triana said.
Triana's brain was scanned twice a week, followed by data from mood surveys. The team found two different brain patterns caused by certain behaviors:a short-term wave lasting less than a week and a long-term wave lasting up to 15 days. The short-term wave was quick responses to a behavior, like struggling to focus after a poor night's sleep.Meanwhile, the long-term wave suggests more gradual, lasting effects of a particular behavior. These were particularly obvious in areas of the brain tied to attention and memory. In other words,a workout or restless night from two weeks ago could still be affecting you—positively or negatively—today.
While this study only shows the brain activity of one person, the researchers hope that it shows the importance of studying brain activity based on our wider lifestyle and behavior, rather than a single snapshot in the lab. "This research is important because it provides a more overall picture of brain function, stressing the long-term effect of everyday behaviour on brain health, " Triana said.
31.What did the study find about our behaviour today?______
A. It is good for our memory.
B. It affects your mind for a long time.
C. It shows the importance of thinking.
D. It is closely connected with our experience.
32.What does the underlined word "snapshot" mean in Paragraph 2?______
A. A full picture. B. A positive report.
C. A good chance. D. A brief introduction.
33.How did the researchers carry out the study?______
A. By asking questions. B. By recording heartbeats
C. By using modern technology. D. By observing sleep patterns.
34.What is the disadvantage of the study?______
A. Only Triana's brain was studied.
B. The study time was not long enough.
C. The study was only completed in the lab.
D. The findings needed to be further proved.
35.What is the purpose of the text?______
A. To share a new discovery.
B. To introduce the brain activities.
C. To draw our attention to our behavior.
D. To teach us to keep our brain healthy.

Receiving an online friend invitation from a stranger can be exciting. It is a chance of building meaningful connection.Yet,just as in real life, having online friendships requires both openness and care. While online connections can help you find your community and express yourself, your safety must come first. Here are necessary tips to connect safely.
Protect your personal information as your most valuable wealth.Treat private details—your full name, school, home address, and phone number—as the top secret.Online anonymity (匿名) means such information can be wrongly used if it falls into the wrong hands.A true friend will respect your personal information.
Trust your instincts (直觉).Notice how conversations make you feel.Is the person asking too much questions too quickly?Do you feel stressed or uneasy? If something feels strange,it probably is.You have every right to put an end to any conversation without explanation.Your safety is much more important than politeness.
Keep a healthy balance.Online friendship should make your real life rich, not replace it.Make sure it doesn't affect schoolwork, hobbies,or in-person relationships.Offline connections are the ground of your social and emotional health.
Remember, you're not alone in this.If you ever feel confused, stressed,or hurt by someone online, stop contact immediately and ask for help from a trusted adult—a parent, teacher,or advisor. They have experience and can offer support and advice.

38.【答案】Dear Peter,
Is everything going all right?Regarding the video for our "Language Buddy Project",I think your idea of adding moments of how we help each other is fantastic. It really highlights the meaning of our partnership.
I suggest we include funny bloopers from our practice, like my struggles with intonation and your efforts with Chinese tones. This makes the video vivid.Besides, why not perform a short skit in each other's language? This can directly show the great progress we have made over the semester.
I believe this will be touching.Let's meet this Saturday at the school library to film it.
Yours, Li Hua
