Creativity is an important ability that helps us make new things. I love DIY very much. Last weekend, I decided to make a birthday gift for my grandma. I wanted to make a paper-cut because it’s a traditional Chinese art form.
First, I prepared some red paper, scissors and glue. Then I drew a picture of peonies on the paper. Peonies stand for good luck and happiness. Next, I cut out the shape carefully with scissors. It was not easy, but I didn’t give up. Finally, I glued a string to the paper-cut so that it could be hung on the wall.
When I gave the gift to my grandma, she was very happy. She said it was the most special gift she had ever received. DIY not only lets me create beautiful things but also helps me show my love to my family. I think everyone should try to be creative. It makes life more colourful.

Kites are a traditional art form in China. They have a history of about 2,300 years. Traditional kite patterns usually have special meanings. For example, dragons stand for power and good luck, while fish mean wealth.
Last month, our school held a kite festival. My classmates and I decided to make our own kites. First, we got materials: special paper, bamboo sticks, string, scissors and glue. Next, we cut the paper into the shape of a dragon. Then we connected the bamboo sticks to the paper to make the frame. Finally, we drew beautiful patterns on the kite and tied the string to it.
On the day of the festival, we flew our kites in the playground. Our dragon kite flew very high. We won a special award. It was a great experience. Making kites not only made us happy but also helped us learn about traditional Chinese culture.

One day, Lu Ban was cutting wood. He accidentally cut his finger on a leaf. He looked at the leaf carefully and found that its edges were toothed. He thought, “If I make a tool with a toothed edge, it will be easier to cut wood.” Soon, he invented the first saw in history.
