In 2021, 17 Asian elephants left their home in Yunnan and started a northward journey. They travelled about 500 kilometres and visited many places. During their journey, they walked through forests, rivers, mountains and even city streets. They ate crops in the fields and slept in the wild.
Chinese people cared about the elephants very much. Local villagers gave them food like bananas and sugarcane. The police protected them all along the way to make sure they were safe. Scientists followed them to study their behaviour.
After a long journey, the elephants finally returned home. This event showed the harmony between humans and nature. Asian elephants are endangered. China has taken many measures to protect them, such as building nature reserves and stopping hunting.
