案】Paragraph 1:
A few days later, the good news that Trashaun accepted the invitation to meet Jayce came. Finally, the boys met at Washington Middle School on a Saturday afternoon a couple of months later and they instantly bonded. The day was not spent on self-pity. Instead, they rode bikes around the school's hallways, took photos, and played basketball together. Trashaun taught Jayce how to slam dunks, even giving him a basketball as a gift. He told Jayce he was perfect the way he looked. He encouraged him not to let anyone drag him down and shake his confidence.
Paragraph 2:
After the meeting, Jayce learned to accept his disability. He began to understand that there are many people like him and came to adapt himself to his disability. He recently started practising shooting basketball every day and he really loves it. Jayce often chats with Trashaun on the Internet about basketball skills as well as some school issues. He is really motivated by this role model and has a positive attitude to his future life. As for Trashaun, he never dreamed that his videos would have such an impact. His relationship with Jayce made him look forward to helping more kids.2025-2026学年山东省济南第一中学高二上学期1月学情检测英语试题

Gitanjali Rao, born in 2005, is an Indian American writer and scientist. Her parents, who both worked in education, encouraged her curiosity and love for learning. When she was four years old, her uncle gave her a science set. This small gift got her very interested in how things work. At seven, she earned the title Davidson Young Scholar because of her strong skills in science and math.
In 2017, Rao won the first place in the Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge. This brought her wide attention. She decided to use her talents to solve real problems. Later, she designed Kindly, an app that uses computer smarts to find hurtful online messages early. She also built Epione, a tool to help doctors spot signs of drug addiction.
Rao is also a writer. Her first book, Baby Brother Wonders, came out in 2015 when she was just ten. In 2020, she published A Young Person’s Guide to Science and Technology. She also received other important awards including a place on Forbes Magazine’s 30 Under 30 list.

In the fiction and creative nonfiction classes that I teach at my university, I routinely stress the importance of every story having a plot and a purpose. The students who take this advice to heart typically produce some fine pieces and exit the class with a good grade. And, according to a study recently published in The Journal of Positive Psychology (心理学), they might just also go on to live more meaningful and productive lives than their less successful storytelling peers.
Researchers at Reichman University in Israel conducted a series of studies exploring how skill at storytelling, or the lack of such skill, impacts the sense-making function of narrative thinking. They assessed participants’ storytelling abilities and then cross-referenced the results with a self-report scale (量表).
In the first study, participants completed self-report scales assessing their sense of “meaning in life” and “approval of high-level goals”. The self-reports were used in the other two studies as well. In the second study, each participant was asked to propose “a friend who knew them very well”, and this person provided a global rating of the participant’s storytelling ability. In the third study, participants were divided into groups of three. They were then instructed to create two separate stories — one a two-minute story about an event that exhibited a personality trait that characterized them, and the other an original two-minute story using three random words — and tell these stories to the other two people in their group. The pairs of listeners then gave their ratings.
Across all three studies, participants who were rated as proficient storytellers exhibited a stronger sense of meaning in life and approval of high-level goals. The results of the study also suggest a beneficial and possibly even healing role for storytelling workshops.
While the concepts of “meaning in life” and “high-goal approval” are difficult to teach due to their abstract nature, storytelling can be taught. A little training in various strategies can turn a student with a notebook full of colorful but undeveloped ideas into a proficient (even if not necessarily published) storyteller. Having a plot and a purpose in your stories can translate into deeper meaning and higher goal-setting in your life.
8. According to the findings, better storytelling students will ______.
A. have a more productive career B. have a stronger sense of life purpose
C. achieve high grades in all subjects D. develop better critical thinking skills
9. What is special about the third study
A. Participants finish a self-report assessment scale.
B. Participants take standardized writing-grading tests.
C. Participants invite someone to give an overall assessment.
D. Participants create and share stories with group members.
10. What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A. Workshops promote mental well-being. B. Teaching abstract concepts is worthwhile.
C. Storytelling contributes to personal growth. D. Everybody can become a published storyteller.
11. Where is the text most probably taken from
A. A course plan. B. A literature writing handbook.
C. A psychology textbook. D. A magazine’s education section.

Many large grocery stores across California line their checkout aisles (过道) with unhealthy products — candy chips and mini-fridges stocked with soda — many of them at eye level for youngsters.
Two California cities have had enough of the junk food marketing strategy. The Perris City Council passed a law requiring healthy checkout options in local grocery store aisles. The rule applies only to grocery stores with a floor area of 2,500 square feet or larger, and it doesn’t prohibit grocers from stocking junk food elsewhere in their stores. Perris is the second city to approve such a law. Berkeley had a similar law previously. In both cities, the laws were passed by their respective city councils.
Perris City Manager Clara Miramontes said she was excited about seeing healthier food options in checkout aisles. “We are committed to the long-term health and wellness of residents and look forward to successful results,” she said in a news release announcing the law.
The initiative to get Perris on a healthier track was encouraged by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Inland Valley and the California advocacy group Public Health Advocates. Julia Burch, assistant director of development for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Inland Valley, praised the effort. “As a youth-serving organization, we are excited to see healthier options at the checkouts to help create a brighter and healthier future in Perris for our youth,” she said in the city’s news release.
It’s not just the youth who might benefit from the Perris ordinance. According to health officials at SHAPE Riverside County, 38.2 percent of adults in Perris were considered obese.
Perris Mayor Michael Vargas championed the city’s policy. “This program will help our residents maintain a healthy lifestyle by giving them alternatives to traditional snack foods,” Vargas said in the news release, “Our council is committed to providing our residents with healthy snack options that benefit all generations of consumers”.
12. What is the function of the first paragraph
A. To advocate a sales technique.
B. To criticize a social issue in California.
C To explain the disadvantages of certain products.
D. To highlight a marketing strategy of grocery stores.
13. What factor limits the application of the grocery store rule
A. The diversity of food. B. The size of the store.
C. The location of the store. D. The differences of consumer groups.
14. What sets off the healthier checkout choice in Perris
A. Residents’ demands. B. The mayor’s personal experiences.
C. Grocery store owners’ initiatives. D. Encouragement from advocacy groups.
15. Which of the following would be the best title for the text
A. Reducing Obesity Rates through Healthier Food Choices
B. Exploring the Influence of Marketing Strategies on Food
C. Removing Junk Food from Grocery Store Checkout Aisles
D. Promoting Healthy Food Initiatives in Grocery Stores

The Comfort Zone describes the psychological conflict between the desperate desire for growth and the fundamental need for safety and predictability. Psychologists describe it as a mental state in which people stick to well-practiced routines to achieve a steady, though not remarkable performance without feeling stressed or anxious. ____16____
So how does this conflicting behavior show up in real life ____17____ We may avoid applying for a promotion, or hesitate to learn a new language. Traditional wisdom often encourages us to “play it safe” and not rock the boat when facing a tough nut.____18____ For instance, a study from Harvard University found that individuals who regularly embraced new challenges showed a 35% increase in creative problem-solving abilities as well as enhanced cognitive flexibility over time.
____19____ Behavioral scientist Dr. Lena notes that many people develop avoidance patterns during adolescence, which may solidify (固化) into fixed routines in adulthood. Although these patterns may reduce temporary stress and anxiety, they often come at the cost of limiting exposure to valuable, growing experiences essential for personal advancement.
In summary, the human drive for growth pulls us toward new experiences, even when uncertainty causes discomfort. Unlike animals that rely purely on instinct (本能), humans possess the ability to reflect and choose. ____20____ Therefore, by mindfully and courageously expanding our boundaries in a structured and intentional manner, we can go all out to achieve a delicate yet rewarding balance — enjoying the security of a foundation while reaching for the growth that lies just beyond.
A Whether should we stay in comfort zone or not
B. Such tendencies are often rooted in the early years.
C. However, recent relevant studies challenge this view.
D. This concept highlights the dilemma between safety and progress.
E. Many individuals recall moments of unease when facing challenges.
F. These experiences lead to a lasting unwillingness to take risks later in life.
G. We have the power to assess situations and decide when to stretch our limits.

When Jayce Crowder was in kindergarten, he began noticing that he looked different from his classmates. They had two hands. But he had only one.
It started when one boy teased him. Jayce was in a bad mood. He'd return home in Des Moines, Iowa, with questions: Why am I different Why me Why "He actually told us that he was mad at looking so different from others," said his mother, Cortney Lewis. "That really hurt him." Lewis admitted she didn't know what to do at that point. How could she provide answers to her son's questions when she had never found those answers herself
A few weeks later, Lewis came home from her job and turned on the TV to a news story about Trashaun Willis, an eighth grader from Washington middle school, Iowa. The boy, then 14, had become an Internetstar after posting videos of his slam dunk(扣篮) , and, like Jayce, he was missing most of his left arm. Lewis called Jayce in. He was shocked, staring at one dunk after another.
At the time, it seemed that watching Trashaun would simply be an inspiring moment for Jayce—he'd see a shining role model with a seemingly similar born disability. And had it stayed just that, Lewis would have been happy. But little did she know that a family friend had already reached out to the Des Moines Register, asking the newspaper to help set up a meeting with Trashaun to encourage Jayce and build his confidence.
