“If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man,” Ernest Hemingway once wrote, “then
wherever you go for the rest of your life, it stays with you, for Paris is a moveable feast.” Here are some places
Hemingway frequented in Paris.
Harry’s New York Bar
One of the bars Hemingway frequented was Harry’s New York Bar. Sitting on Paris’ Right Bank near the
Paris Opera, the bar opened in 1911 and served as a meeting place for foreigners in the city. The bar was originally
in New York. Its owner, Tod Sloan, had it shipped across the Atlantic to Paris. The “Harry’s” in the name came
from a waiter who bought it from Sloan in 1923. Harry’s is the birthplace of a number of famous drinks, from Paris
75 to Sidecar.
Address: 5 rue Daunou, 75002
Les Deux Magot
It was once the meeting place for famous writers in Paris, including Simone de Beauvoir and Jean-Paul Sartre.
Hemingway also frequented the café, and even used it as a setting for his novel The Sun Also Rises.
Address: 6 Saint-Germain-des-Prés, 75006
La Closerie des Lilas
Hemingway wrote most of The Sun Also Rises here. La Closerie des Lilas was also the first place where
Hemingway read F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby.
Address: 171 Boulevard du Montparnasse, 75015
Jardin du Luxembourg
When his family ran out of money, Hemingway would sometimes hunt pigeons (鸽子) in Jardin du
Luxembourg. Having broken their necks, he would hide them in his son’s clothes. You don’t have to hunt pigeons
to explore and experience the natural beauty of the second largest park in Paris, however.
Address: 6 Arrondissement, 75006
1. What can we know about Harry’s New York Bar

A. 5 rue Daunou, 75002. B. 6 Saint-Germain-des-Prés, 75006.
C. 6 Arrondissement, 75006. D. 171 Boulevard du Montparnasse, 75015.
3. Why did Hemingway hunt pigeons in Jardin du Luxembourg
A. He could not afford to buy meat. B. He gave them to his son as pets.

Many studies have shown that drinking plenty of water a day is good for our health. People are paying careful
attention to that advice, and millions of people choose to buy bottled water to drink. Unfortunately, many of these
plastic water bottles are being thrown away. It can take centuries for these bottles to break down.
For the last several years, three designers from Imperial College in London, England, have been working to
address the problem of plastic bottles. The team’s goal is to “make packaging waste disappear”. To achieve that
goal, these designers have developed a unique product called Ooho.
Believe it or not, the Ooho is several small mouthfuls of water wrapped in a golf-ball-sized bubble (泡泡).
You can make a hole in its skin and drink the water out of it. You can also throw the entire bubble in your mouth
— no bottle needed! Ooho’s skin is made from seaweed (海草). It is nearly tasteless and easy for the body to take
in. If people would rather not eat it, however, the skin can be thrown away. In less than a month, it will break down
completely.
The skin is very affordable to make. First, a ball of water is frozen in a special chemical solution (化学溶液).
Next, it is put in a solution made of brown seaweed. Each bubble costs less than two cents to make. It is, therefore,
a far cheaper replacement for plastic bottles.
The three designers have been figuring out the flaws and searching for possible solutions. For example, the
Ooho is great if someone just wants a single mouthful of water. But what if the person is especially thirsty and
wants more They are exploring the idea of making bigger bubbles and also searching for a way to connect several
bubbles together. Another problem with the product has been how to transport it in packaging that is safe for the
environment but still protects the bubbles from breaking.
To find out if people are interested in Ooho, the designers have plans in place to hand out their bubbles next
year at sporting events like marathons, as well as at entertainment sites. If Ooho becomes popular, people across the
country may soon find themselves eating their water instead of drinking it!

Making it to 100 years old is a big achievement on its own, but being active at that age is absolutely worthy of
praise and admiration. Jayne Burns, who just turned 101 years old, still has a part-time job at a craft store in Ohio,
drives herself to work, and simply doesn’t see herself retiring anytime soon. Not only does she seem to love
keeping busy, but she credits it as one of her secrets to living a long life.
Burns first caught the internet’s attention on TikTok. There, her coworker Maggie HusVar told her followers
about her then 98-year-old friend. Maggie then asked Burns to share a piece of advice with her new fans, to whom
Burns said, “Keep moving.”
The senior woman recently celebrated her 101st birthday, and she certainly hasn’t changed her mind about
slowing down. Burns took the job in 1997 after her husband died, and has expressed that she enjoys what she does,
so she wants to keep doing it. “I’ll work for as long as I can or as long as they’ll have me,” she said.
In celebration of her milestone birthday, Burns recently shared some more tips for a long life. “I was always
active all my life doing things. So I think that has helped more than anything.” As a cancer survivor, she said she
used to watch her sugar intake, but she doesn’t anymore, as she loves sweets. Despite her age, she still follows a
beauty routine. “I use a moisturizer(保湿霜) and makeup. I figured I did it all my life, so I’m ‘not’ going to stop
now,” she says.
Overall, her top secret for a long life is to make friends and find happiness in the company of others. “It’s
important to find people who are friendly and kind.” she says. “I enjoy talking to everybody I work with, and

The introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) is a significant part of the digital transformation bringing
challenges and changes to the job descriptions among management. A study shows that integrating AI systems into
service teams increases demands on middle management in the financial services field.
Interviewed in the study were 25 experienced managers employed by a leading Scandinavian financial
services company. AI systems have been intensely integrated into the tasks and processes of the company in recent
years.
The results showed that the integration of AI systems into service teams is a complex phenomenon, putting
new demands on the work of middle management and requiring a balanced act in the face of new challenges.
“The productivity of work grows when routine tasks are passed on to AI. On the other hand, the fast pace of
change makes work more demanding, and the integration of AI makes it necessary to learn new things constantly.
Surprisingly, new kinds of routine work also increase, because the operations of AI need to be monitored and
checked,” says Assistant Professor Jonna Koponen.
According to the results of the research, the social features of middle management also changed, because the
AI systems used at work were seen either as technical tools or colleagues, depending on the type of AI that was
used. Especially when more developed types of AI, such as chatting robots, were included in the AI systems, they
were seen as colleagues.
Integrating AI also poses ethical (道德上的) challenges, and managers devoted more of their time to ethical
第 6页/共 12页
considerations. For example, they were concerned about the fairness of decisions made by AI. Aspects observed in
the study showed that managing service teams with integrated AI requires new skills and knowledge of middle
management, such as technological understanding and skills, interactive skills and emotional intelligence,
problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage and adapt to continuous change.
“AI systems cannot yet take over all human management in areas such as the motivation and inspiration of
team members. This is why skills in interaction and empathy (同理心) should be emphasized when selecting new
employees for managerial positions which emphasize the management of teams integrated with AI,” Koponen says.
12. What does the study find
A. AI becomes less popular in the service field. B. AI makes decisions more fairly than humans.
C. AI proves human management is unnecessary. D. AI makes middle management more demanding.
13 What’s Jonna Koponen’s attitude to integrating AI systems into service teams
A. Unmentioned. B. Opposed. C. Objective. D. Indifferent.
14. Which of the following shows Jonna Koponen’s opinion
A. AI can’t replace human mangers completely. B. Few managers in the service field are needed.
C. Employees for managerial positions dislike AI. D. AI devotes more time to ethical considerations.
15. What is the main idea of the text
A. The integration of AI into service teams is hard.
B. AI takes over human management in many fields.
C. AI and human managers are a perfect combination.
D. The application of AI influences middle management.

other again after the long holidays. When the door slid open, all of us stopped talking and turned to look. In came
our teacher Ms. Green, followed by an ordinary-looking boy.
“This boy’s name is Mark,” Ms. Green announced. “He comes from another school, and he’s going to be in
our class from today. Make sure all of you welcome him warmly. ”
The class clapped. But I didn’t want to have a second look at the newcomer, for he had no outstanding
qualities, considering his small figure and casual T-shirt.
“Oh, I forgot to mention one thing,” Ms. Green spoke up. “Mark actually has hearing problems. Normally he
would have hearing aids on, but his old ones have just been broken. His doctor suggested that he stay at home until
he got his new ones. However, Mark insisted on attending his first day of school. So if you want to communicate
with him, you have to write your words on a piece of paper.”
This single speech sent the whole class into noises. Some students looked at each other with expressions of
surprise. Others voiced cries of concern out of pity.
Ms. Green calmed everyone down. “I’d like someone to personally help him out throughout the day. Do I have
any volunteers ”
“How can a disabled person be intelligent ” I thought to myself. I refused to raise my hand, expecting
someone else. would. But nobody did or said anything. Dead silence spread across the classroom.
It was by total bad luck that my eyes happened to meet Ms. Green’s.
“How about you, James ” She asked me. “Is it okay for you to take care of Mark just for today ”
It is difficult to refuse a request by someone, especially if that person is a teacher. I sighed (叹气) and nodded
slightly.
Ms. Green gestured for Mark to sit beside me and then asked us to share our holiday stories with the class.
