1. Dali, Yunnan

The picturesque scenery and relaxing pace of life depicted in the drama proved to be a comfort for many, leading to a tourism boom in Dali during the Spring Festival holidays.

3. Taiyuan Ancient County, Shanxi

Filmed within a residential compound made up of five enclosed courtyards in an ancient town relic site in Jinyuan district, Taiyuan city, Shanxi province, the movie captures the essence of the country’s winding alleyways and distinctive ancient courtyards, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.

An interesting scientific finding that challenges common beliefs is that eating chocolate can actually be good for you. For a long time, people thought chocolate was just a sweet treat that could make them gain weight and harm their teeth. However, recent research has found that dark chocolate, in particular, can have several health benefits when eaten in small amounts.
Dark chocolate is rich in antioxidants (抗氧化剂). These substances can protect your body from damage caused by harmful particles (微粒) called free radicals (自由基). Consuming foods high in antioxidants can help maintain a healthy heart and reduce the risk of certain diseases. Researchers have discovered that the specific types of antioxidants in dark chocolate can improve blood flow and lower blood pressure.
So, how can this knowledge be used in our day-to-day lives First, it’s important to choose dark chocolate that contains at least 70% cocoa. Higher cocoa content means more antioxidants the chocolate contains. Second, consuming it in limited amounts is important. Even though dark chocolate is good for your health, it also contains calories and fat. A small piece of dark chocolate a few times each week is all you need to enjoy its health benefits without extra calories.
Another way to apply this knowledge is by eating dark chocolate when you have a desire for sweets. Instead of choosing sugary milk chocolate or candy, a piece of dark chocolate can satisfy your sweet tooth while being healthier. Teachers can use this example to teach students about nutrition and the value of looking at food as a whole. Just because something contains sugar doesn’t mean it’s bad in all cases. This discovery about dark chocolate can encourage students to learn more about the health benefits and downsides of other foods.
The idea that all chocolate is unhealthy is challenged by the discovery that dark chocolate can be part of a health y diet. Choosing the right chocolate and eating it in moderation (适度) lets people enjoy its taste and health benefits. This shows how scientific discoveries can reshape our understanding of food and health.
4.What does recent research say about chocolate
A.It’s only for kids. B.It can be healthy.
C.It’s made from milk. D.It’s good in big amounts.
5.What can antioxidants help prevent
A.Hunger. B.Feeling uninterested.
C.Sleepiness: D.Damage from free radicals.
6.What is the main reason for eating dark chocolate in limited amounts
A.It also contains calories and fat. B.It can make you very energetic.
C.It has high levels of caffeine. D.It’s too expensive.
7.Why might teachers discuss dark chocolate in nutrition lessons
A.To show not all sugary foods are harmful.
B.To encourage the daily intake of chocolate.
C.To frighten students about health risks.
D.To argue against eating any sweets.

Hunter never thought she’d total her car. But in 2021, she stood by the remainder (残骸) of her 2008 Nissan Versa on the Dallas Highway, grateful to be alive.
Hunter had promised herself that when she graduated and moved to downtown Dallas, she’d get rid of her car. The accident sped up her timeline. Now, the 28-year-old is one of more than 200,000 Dallasites using Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) to make their everyday commute (通勤).
In order to cut costs, Colorado, a software developer, sold his car. When he owned a car, Colorado said he spent around $450 a month on payments and insurance alone. On top of that, he paid for gas, maintenance, and more — making his car expenses well above twice the amount he pays without one, he said.
In 2022, DART made updates to its bus network that made using public transportation a lot easier for some riders, like Colorado. But no matter how DART develops, riding public transportation takes some amount of pre-planning based on bus and train schedules, Colorado said. His advice for new riders is: “Don’t give up when things get difficult.”
Riding DART is more environmentally conscious, too, Hunter said, and she regularly runs into several of her neighbors while on transit.
For Hunter, living without a car gives her peace from the stress of traffic and has helped her mental stability.
“At the end of a workday, you can enjoy the process of getting home.” Hunter said.
Colorado said he takes the time he would be driving to read on the train, observe the world around him, explore his neighborhood, or meet someone new.
“You learn to see, appreciate, and soak in the value of taking a little time,” Colorado said. “It’s more about the journey than the destination. I think there’s a philosophy to it that you start to learn.”
8.What made Hunter use public transport earlier than planned
A.A serious car crash.
B.Her move to downtown Dallas.
C.Her graduation from university.
D.The high cost of car maintenance.
9.What can be learned about DART from the text
A.It advocates a low-carbon transportation.
B.It’s the primary cause of reduced car ownership.
C.It has flexible schedules tailored for its users.
D.It has been improved to better serve its users.
10.What do both Hunter and Colorado appreciate about their new lifestyle
A.The chance to make more friends.
B.The stability of the public transport system.
C.The personal time gained during the commute.
D.The positive comments from their neighbors.
11.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage
A.When the Car Is Gone, the Journey Begins
B.A Crash That Changed Dallas Traffic
C.DART’s New Routes Win Riders Back
D.Commute Options in Modern Cities

From where I live on the coast of California’s Monterey Peninsula, there is no easy way to go anywhere. We have roads with views that will take your breath away, but few fast lanes. To go north to San Francisco, you take the Old Coast Highway, and then go ahead to 101, a multilane freeway, which, depending on weather and traffic, will finally get you where you’re going or drive you crazy. But the part I feared most was a narrow two-lane stretch of a road that connected the two in the south, where I grew up, such roads are called cow trails.
Roads are like people; they have personalities — colored by how we see and feel about them at particular times. My husband taught me this about roads. Randy was an athlete, body and soul. A high school basketball coach, he loved and worked out with his teams. He was a marathoner who could run miles and not be tired. In 25 years of teaching he rarely had a sick day. And then he had cancer.
So we began another race down another road: a four-year-long marathon to Stanford University Medical Center for surgeries (手术), radiation, chemo and more than a few emergencies. And to get to the hospital we had to travel those impossible roads — 91 miles, two hours. I hated every minute and inch. I especially hated that traffic-crowded two-lane bottleneck. Then they started construction. Randy never complained. But as he grew weaker, I tried to avoid that cow trail to shorten our drive. I spent hours with maps but found that there was no getting around it. I had no choice but to drive it. Once, when we were running late for an appointment, I muttered, “I hate this stupid road.”
“Four miles,” he said.
I looked over. His eyes were closed.
“What did you say ” I asked.
“This part of the road,” he said in his calm voice. “It’s only four miles long. That’s easy. You can do anything for four miles.”
I checked the odometer (里程表). He was right. Four miles exactly. I could have sworn it was 20. Suddenly the drive got easier. Four miles was doable and understandable. It was the distance we walked in the evening from our house to the beach and back. It was half the length of a mountain trail he loved to hike in Yosemite, with a baby on his back. Four short trips to our local park to play catch with our kids. A part of the 26 miles he once ran in the Big Sur International Marathon. Four miles was nothing — certainly not a space or time worth wasting in anger when he had only months to live. So I stopped complaining. I started really looking. And there appeared green acres of fields that shined in the sun. Strawberries and roses stand at the roadside. And there was an old white horse watching cars running down the open road.
Those things had always been there, but I had never noticed. Randy taught me how to see them. Now when the road is long and hard, I break it into pieces in my soul. I divide it into four-mile stretches. You can endure anything for four miles — even find beauty and acceptance along the way.
33.What can be learnt from paragraph 1
A.You can drive crazily on 101 on a fine day.
B.The roads are very dangerous and breathtaking.
C.The cow trail joined the Old Coast Highway and 101.
D.The roads to go north are narrow and rough.
34.What can be inferred from the last but one paragraph
A.Four miles was nothing worth wasting in anger!
B.The author didn’t see the beautiful views on roads.
C.Anything is acceptable if you see it differently.
D.The author misread the odometer as 20 miles.
35.What is the message conveyed in the passage
A.Complains makes no difference. B.Life is short and time is swift.
C.A merry heart makes a long life. D.Situations are affected by our attitude.
36.Which of the following would be, the best title for the passage
A.Last four miles of roads B.A stretch of hard road
C.Personalities of roads D.Beauty along the way

As I stepped off the plane in Yunnan, I was about to begin an unforgettable experience: the Water-Splashing Festival.
On the morning of the festival, people were busy getting prepared. Their faces lit with expectation. I, a foreigner, really stood out in the street. A passing vendor (小贩) noticed my out-of-place expression and flashed me a wide smile. 16
Walking through the lively streets of Xishuangbanna with excitement, I saw a group of local children approaching me, their eyes shining with kindness. They handed me a traditional Dai hat and in that simple gesture, I felt a connection to this land and its people. 17 Such a moment highlights how the Water-Splashing Festival is more than just an event; it’s a celebration of warmth and openness.
Soon, the most important event, the water splashing, began. People of all ages, armed with water guns and buckets, filled the streets. 18 The thought of getting completely wet in front of so many strangers made me nervous. But then, a group of local boys targeted me with their water guns. Before I knew it, I got wet through, and a burst of laughter escaped my lips. In that moment, all my hesitations faded away. 19 But for me, it was also a way to wash away the distance between myself and the people around me. As the sun began to set, the festival finally ended. But the memories created, the friendship formed, the cultural understanding gained would last a lifetime.
20 It caught me that by being brave enough to explore new cultures, we open ourselves up to a world of possibilities. We enrich our lives in ways we could never have imagined, filling them laughter, warmth, and the magic of cultural connection.
A.At first, I was a bit hesitant.
B.That warmth and friendliness immediately put me at ease.
C.The water-splashing had a long history for the Dai people.
D.It made me understand that a kind act can break down cultural barriers.
E.This led to my new understanding of communicating with different people.
F.My time at Yunnan’s Water-Splashing Festival was a journey of discovery.
G.In Dai culture, splashing water means getting rid of bad luck and welcoming the new.

An Unexpected Angel
In the heat of 90 degrees Fahrenheit, I watched the elderly woman struggle with a walker, weighed down with bags of groceries. I was driving north, and she was walking south. I’d seen her before, but as a young lady, I would feel guilty each time I didn’t offer her a lift.
But how could I safely stop in the middle of a busy road to help anyone without blocking the late-afternoon traffic That was my reasoning. It resolved my guilt... temporarily.
This day, however, the guilt got to me. I got into the far-left lane and made a U-turn. Slowing down,I opened the window and called out, “Need a ride ”
I knew I was upsetting the drivers around me, but I no longer cared. The woman looked tired, with sweat pouring down her tired face.
“Let me help you with your groceries,” I added.
Getting out of the car, I placed her walker and bags into my trunk (后备箱). I helped the woman into the passenger seat, and we were off.
After a few blocks and a bridge, we continued down unfamiliar streets until she finally pointed to an old apartment building where she lived. Several noisy young men in their early twenties had gathered around the entrance. They were smoking something and appeared threatening. Some were on motorcycles, and one, wearing his bushy, long hair, was staring at me intently — too intently — and smiling.
Hoodlum (小混混)! I thought I was getting more and more uncomfortable, but the woman in my car seemed fine. I stopped the car where she had indicated and opened the trunk. She directed a couple of the guys to help with her walker and groceries. She thanked me, and I drove away as fast as I could.
With GPS, I drove slowly and turned on the radio playing some familiar music. Suddenly the peaceful atmosphere was interrupted by the roar of a motorcycle behind me. I must admit it made me nervous. Slowing down, I was hoping he would pass me. I recognized the biker from the apartment house — the one with bushy hair who kept smiling at me familiarly.
