Sarah sits in her yard with her handmade crafts (手工制品) on the table. There are baskets, flower pots, and cloth bags—all made from recycled materials. They are not just creative objects. They’re part of Sarah’s project to make a greener community.
Two years ago, Sarah passed by a park and found plastic bottles and empty cans everywhere. Sarah felt sad. One day, Sarah noticed some kids selling orange juice at the park. That was when Sarah got an idea. “Mom, what if we sell handmade crafts ” she asked excitedly. “Then we can buy trees for our neighborhood with the money.”
With her mom’s help, Sarah started making crafts with great interest, using plastic bottles and empty cans. Every day after school, she sat in her yard, waiting for customers. At first, no one came. Sarah felt down, but she didn’t give up.
Later, people began to stop by. A kind woman bought a cloth bag, saying it was perfect for shopping. By the end of the first month, Sarah had made $150. She bought 30 small trees. Together with her parents, they planted the trees around the park.
Now, the neighborhood looks nicer, and the birds have more places to rest. Sarah even teaches her friends how to make eco-friendly crafts after school. They organize sales every month to raise money for new projects like bird feeders.
Sarah shared her story at a community event. “Making a greener community is important,” she said proudly. “If everyone helps a little, we can make our life better.”

“Life is short, but there is always time enough for courtesy (礼貌).”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson
People love being polite. You might have noticed we are always saying “please”, “thank you”, “excuse me”, and “sorry”. Sometimes, you might make a request, and that request can be difficult for the other person to do. So it is necessary to make sure that you are being polite when making a request.
To do this, you might say some words such as “can”, “could”, or “please” to soften (使温和) your approach. They may make it look like you are asking a question instead of making a request. But don’t worry—the listener will understand you. For example, if you are in a restaurant and say “I want the bill (账单)” to the waiter, your request will be considered very direct. You might use this kind of language if you are angry because they have had very bad service. However, if you wish to sound polite, you might consider speaking like this: “Can I have the bill, please ” or “Could I possibly have the bill, please ”
We can also use polite language to ask for permission. For example, just sitting down next to someone without asking might be considered a bit forward (鲁莽的). If that person is waiting for a friend, you may create an uncomfortable situation. You can ask for permission first. For example, “Do you mind if I sit here ”
In daily life, if you really need help, being polite is quite necessary.
4.What does the underlined word “approach” in Paragraph 2 mean in Chinese
A.方向 B.态度 C.靠近
5.If a person says “I want the bill” in a restaurant, he probably means that _________.
A.he is not happy with the service
B.he and the waiter are close friends
C.he is trying to make himself sound polite
6.The writer shows us how we should ask for permission by _________.
A.telling a story B.giving an example C.asking a question
7.What’s the best title for the passage
A.How to Behave in a Restaurant B.Stop Making Requests C.Be Polite with Your Words

From social relationships to work challenges, Chinese people are now turning to AI tools like DeepSeek to talk about different personal problems in daily life. They share feelings with the chatbot and get warm feedback (反馈). This is called AI therapy, which is changing people’s way of looking for mental (心理的) health support. But can robots really take the place of human doctors in this field
Around the world, 45% of people needed mental health care in 2024, but they did not receive it because it was too expensive or there weren’t enough doctors to provide help, according to Huntington Psychological Services. Daniel Lowd, a professor at the University of Oregon, believes AI could help fill this gap (沟). “If people can find some support and ideas by talking to ChatGPT or chatbots, then I think that’s wonderful,” Lowd told Newsweek. Li Yong, a doctor at the Jiangsu Province Hospital, agreed with Lowd, saying that AI meets people’s needs for emotional support to some degree.
However, he points out human touch is important for the mental care service. AI can’t completely replace therapy specialists. Human doctors understand feelings deeply through face-to-face talks and offer more tailored treatment plans—they are specially designed to meet the different needs of people with different problems. That is something robots can’t fully copy. Another problem is safety. AI might act like a therapist if asked, without proper training or rules. It can’t be as responsible as human therapists, either.
Experts (专家) believe that the key to safe AI therapy is strict government control. For example, Wysa, an AI mental health app, follows strict medical standards (标准) in the UK. As AI becomes part of our daily life, finding a balance between its advantages and risks is important. This way, more people can get the mental health support without worrying about possible dangers.
8.How can AI therapy help people
A.Find a job. B.Look for friends.
C.Treat serious illnesses. D.Make them feel comfortable.
9.What problem can chatbots solve according to Daniel Lowd
A.Doctors’ long working hours. B.Not enough time to relax.
C.The high cost of going to school. D.The great need for mental health care.
10.The underlined word “tailored” in Paragraph 3 probably means “________”.
A.basic B.personal C.confident D.necessary
11.What do experts think about “AI therapy”
A.It is good but needs strong control.
B.It brings more risks than advantages.
C.It will completely change the medical standards.
D.There is no need to worry about possible dangers.

China’s Tiangong Space Station welcomed a new thing — a special hot-air oven! Recently, astronauts from the Shenzhou-21 and Shenzhou-20 missions used this device successfully for the first time in space. This is an important step to improve Chinese astronauts’ dining experience in orbit. Now, they can enjoy tasty baked (烤的) food even hundreds of kilometers away from Earth.
Before this new invention, most space food was cooked beforehand and ready to eat. There were not many choices for taste and texture. The new oven has greatly made the space menu more varied (多种多样的). Astronauts have already tried baking popular dishes like “Orleans-style” chicken wings and black pepper beef steak. A video from the space station showed them putting the chicken wings into the oven carefully. After 28 minutes of exact heating, the delicious and soft chicken wings were done. The astronauts liked them very much.
However, baking in space brings special challenges. Liu Weibo, an expert in space life support technology, explained that the main difficulties are dealing with smoke and oil fumes (油烟). These could make the space station’s air dirty. The specially designed oven uses new technologies to clean smoke and collect oil. This makes sure the air in the cabin (船舱) stays clean. Besides, the oven is made to be strong and long-lasting. It can work well at least 500 times to meet the needs of long space missions.
The new oven is part of China’s ongoing work to make astronauts’ living conditions better in space. Now, the space station has more than 190 kinds of food. The menu is updated every 10 days to give different and healthy food choices. Apart from the oven, the “space garden” on the station is also growing well. Astronauts have successfully grown fresh vegetables like lettuce and cherry tomatoes. These add more fresh food to their meals.
“When astronauts stay in a small space for months, eating self-baked food not only makes their taste buds happy but also brings great mental (精神的) comfort,” Liu Weibo said. It turns out that a nice and delicious meal is always the best comfort — even in the huge space far from Earth.
12.What is the main difficulty of baking in space
A.Not having enough baking materials on board.
B.Having no fixed heating time for baking food.
C.Dealing with smoke and oil fumes properly.
D.Having little space to place the baking oven.
13.What does China’s effort to improve space food show
A.Chinese government pays little attention to astronauts’ needs.
B.China is developing modern space life support technologies.
C.Enough food is the most important thing in our space station.
D.Astronauts only care about the taste of their everyday meals.
14.What is the main idea of the passage
A.Astronauts will grow fresh vegetables in space garden.
B.Difficult challenges of space baking and our solutions.
C.A special hot-air oven on Tiangong and its importance.
D.The variety of food provided on China’s space station.
15.Which of the following shows the proper use of the special hot-air oven’s design idea
A.Baking cookies in a home kitchen with good ventilation.
B.Using a smoke-free small oven in a closed camping tent.
C.Heating cold rice for many students in a school cafeteria.
D.Cooking vegetable meat soup for a big family at a picnic.

Xpeng’s Female Robot Sparks Heated Debate
Xpeng Motors released a female humanoid robot called IRON during its November 2025 technology day, and the robot quickly triggered a fiery discussion online. With its highly human-like appearance and smooth “catwalk gait”, the robot surprised many people.
IRON has 82 degrees of freedom, equipped with advanced AI chips and all-solid-state batteries. It can perform complex movements and delicate operations, such as walking gracefully and picking up small objects. However, its ultra-realistic gait made some netizens doubt if a real person was hiding inside. They pointed out that the robot’s leg movements were too natural to be mechanical.
To answer the doubts, He Xiaopeng, Xpeng’s chairman, responded publicly within 24 hours. He posted a video showing IRON’s internal mechanical structure, including bionic muscles and flexible joints. This move helped calm the controversy. Many people then praised the technological breakthrough, while others discussed the “uncanny valley effect”—the discomfort people feel when robots are too similar to humans.
Xpeng plans to put IRON into mass production by the end of 2026. It will first be used in service scenarios like guidance and shopping assistance. The robot’s release shows Xpeng’s step into the robotics field, bringing new ideas to the industry.
This event not only displays technological progress but also makes people think about the future of human-robot interaction. As technology develops, such debates may become more common.

34.句意:例如,如果你想向一个路过的人求助,你可以说“你好!”、“下午好!”或“打扰一下,您能帮我吗?”根据“a person who is…by”可知,此处描述一个路过的人,who引导的定语从句应用现在进行时,pass的现在分词为passing。故填passing。
35.句意:知道如何正确地提问。根据“ask a question”可知,此处应用副词correctly修饰动词ask。故填correctly。

37.句意:这个听起来比“嗨!怎么去伊顿中心啊?”礼貌多了。根据“sounds much…than”及“Excuse me! May I ask you how to get to the Eaton Center ”可知,此处表示更礼貌的问路表达,应用polite的比较级more polite。故填more polite。
38.句意:不要害怕使用地标。根据“be afraid…using landmarks”可知,此处应用be afraid of doing sth表示“害怕做某事”。故填of。
39.句意:不要急着赶到你要去的地方,否则你可能会迷路。空格前的一句是空格后一句事件发生的条件,此处可用连词or表示“否则”。故填or。

46.例文
How to Protect Our Environment
As middle school students, we can do many things to protect our environment. A common problem I see is plastic waste everywhere.
In my daily life, I always try to help. First, I save water and electricity. I turn off the lights when I leave a room and take short showers. Second, I choose to ride a bike or walk to nearby places. This reduces air pollution and keeps me healthy. Let’s start from small actions. If each of us does a little, we can make a big difference.
I believe if everyone takes action, our earth will become a more beautiful home.
