They are recording and collecting digital images of cultural relics from the Mogao Caves, which were a key stop along the Silk Road throughout China’s ancient history. Nearly 500,000 high quality digital photographs have been produced since the international project started in 1994.

They also hope to further educate people about the importance of safeguarding historic and cultural relics for future generations to understand and appreciate. As one researcher who is working on the project explains, “Appreciating one’s own cultural heritage is very important for understanding oneself. Appreciating the cultural heritage of other countries is very important for international communication and understanding.”
3. What do you think of the researcher’s opinion in the last paragraph
It’s very important for us to do something to protect the cultural heritage. Understanding our own and other cultures is a great way to understand ourselves and others.

A Cross-Country Running Race
Last Sunday saw a grand cross-country running race at our school, which drew the attention of many students. And all of the selected students took part in it.
The route measured 5 kms from school gate to the foot of Nanshan Mountain. At 8:00 am, all students gathered at the school gate and the race started. Every runner was trying their best, with their classmates giving them help and encouragement all the way. About three hours later, all of them reached the finish line, receiving cheers from all the students.
The activity was highly spoken of. As one student who joined the race said, “As well as offering us a chance to workout, the race also promoted the passion for running among us”.

An event of the intangible cultural heritage
Today, an event named “Intangible cultural heritage into school” was held in our school, whose purpose was to promote students’ interest of traditional Chinese culture and pass on.
There were a variety of activities, ranging from paper cutting, calligraphy to Beijing opera. Some skilled craftsmen showed us how to make lovely paper flowers step by step. Then followed an informative lecture on ICH protection, enriching everyone’s knowledge.
This event was considered a great success. It has not only promoted even wider interest among us in China’s history and culture, but also increased knowledge and appreciation of China’s ancient cultural heritage.
