Last summer at a bookstore, my son Henry was fascinated by the cover of the first novel from
Peter Brown’s middle-grade trilogy (三 部 曲 ). He then finished it in just two days. “Dad, why did
The Wild Robot have to be so sad ” He tearfully asked me.
The story is set on a remote island, where a robot named Roz learns to survive and
communicate with the island’s creatures, and becomes part of the community. For my son, it was the
first book he discovered on his own; the first to impact him with the mix of tragedy (悲剧) and joy.
When I finished the book, I knew why Henry loved it. In our book club discussion, he
described how Brown’s pictures and words had made the story feel real. When talking about its final
scenes, where Roz leaves to find repairs for her injured body, Henry cried again. His previous
reading experiences had cheerful, “happily-ever-after” endings, but this book introduced him to the
beauty of complex emotions. I tried to explain how sadness can enhance the meaning of happy
moments, but failed to fully convince him.
Once our discussion ended, Henry requested to buy The Wild Robot Escapes and instantly fell
in love with it. He read the first two books repeatedly, so you can imagine his excitement when we
finally got a copy of The Wild Robot Protects.
We both agree it is worth the wait. Roz leaves the island again to stop an underwater threat:
“the poison tide.” Brown expertly balances between breathtaking adventure and unsettling ideas—
not just happiness and sadness, but also, given the climate-change undercurrents, hope and despair.
And, here’s something special about Roz: her physical clumsiness and confusion about life,
conveyed through her expressive eyes and downturned mouth. Her story reflects the challenges of
surviving in a strange place, much like a child’s journey. Readers love Roz. They learn from her.
Even better, they learn alongside her. Roz gave Henry the power to push through the first book’s sad
parts, getting him ready to appreciate that, sometimes, sadness isn’t a bad thing to feel.
24.What drove the author to read The Wild Robot
A.Its tragic ending. B.Henry’s tearful recommendation.
C.Its attractive cover. D.Henry’s emotional response to it.
25.What is one theme of The Wild Robol Protects
A.Family and community. B.Concerns of global issues.
C.Exploration of the ocean. D.Man-robot relationship.
26.What makes Roz in the trilogy special
A.Her childlike expressions. B.Her robotic power.
C.Her struggling experiences. D.Her adventurous spirit.
27.Which message does this text seem to communicate
A.Misfortune inspires great literary works.
B.Robot stories work like magic on children.
C.Book discussions help kids survive tragedies.
D.Reading literature facilitates personal growth.

In today’s digital era, social media users are increasingly coming across fake news online. This
leads to the pressing issue: What causes people to fall for misinformation on the Internet
According to researchers at the Penn State College of Information Sciences and
Technology, users can easily fall into an echo chamber (回 声 室 ) — a sort of virtual space where
users consume only one-sided news, eventually distrusting any opposing views. “We all tend to agree
with the group opinion. Hence, people naturally get together with others who hold the same opinion,”
said Dongwon Lee, one of the researchers. “But if you’re not cautious, there is a high risk of falling
into an echo chamber.”
To prevent this phenomenon, the researchers have crafted a novel tool, a game named
ChamberBreaker, to help players resist echo chambers and reduce the rate of fake news spread.
The
fundamental approach employed by ChamberBreaker centers around a decision-making
procedure
that mirrors the creation of echo chambers. In ChamberBreaker, a player is tasked with trying to have
community members fall into an echo chamber. To begin, the player is randomly assigned a situation
that focuses on a health, political or environmental issue, and is presented with six pieces of news on
that topic. Then, the player selects news that could cause the other members to fall into an echo
chamber while at the same time maintaining their trust. If successful, the community members will
fall into an echo chamber and the player will witness the resulting negative effects on the community.
After developing ChamberBreaker, researchers tested it with over 800 subjects to see if it
raised awareness of echo chambers and changed news consumption behaviors. The researchers
found
that those who played ChamberBreaker were significantly more likely to state their intention to
observe online information from more diverse perspectives and showed an increased awareness
of
the echo chamber phenomenon.
Ultimately, the researchers hope that their set of methods can excite a greater interest in the
scientific and scholarly study related to information consumption. The application of tools like
ChamberBreaker, which focuses on fostering analytical reasoning, may lead us towards a more
informed online community.
28.What can be learned about an online echo chamber
A.It encourages well-judged views.
B.It gathers like-minded individuals.
C.It functions as a virtual reality platform.
D.It serves as a tool for identifying fake information.
29.What is ChamberBreaker’s core method against echo chambers
A.Assignment of situations. B.Trust-building exercises.
C.News selection strategy. D.Community impact assessment.QCtwggQkITACB5rQw3mCgsYkIAiLAgEwRAQqAxigAFAFKA=}#}
30.Which of the following can show ChamberBreaker’s effectiveness
A.The results of scientific testing.
B.The theoretical framework of the game.
C.The description of the game procedures.
D.The common challenges faced during gameplay.
31.What is the likely long-term effect of playing ChamberBreaker
A.Reducing news inquiry. B.Encouraging passive reading.
C.Strengthening prejudiced views. D.Enhancing critical thinking.

The science of why insects gather around lights at night has never been nailed down. Popular
theories propose that moths and other insects navigate (导 航 ) by the moon and mistake lamps for
moonlight, or that the insects fly towards light to escape coming danger. Now researchers believe
they have a more convincing answer: contrary to current theories, insects are not attracted to light
from far away, but become trapped if they fly close to an artificial light source.
According to Dr Sam Fabian, study co-author and Imperial College London entomologist,
moths and many other insects that fly at night evolved to tilt ( 倾 斜 ) their backs to wherever is
brightest. For hundreds of millions of years, this was the sky rather than the ground. The trick told
insects which way was up and ensured they flew level. But then came artificial lighting. Moths found
themselves tilting their backs to street lamps. This caused them to circle around the lamps endlessly,
the insects trapped by their evolution.
Fabian and his colleagues filmed insect flight paths around lights in the lab. The videos reveal
that time and again, moths and dragonflies turned their backs to artificial lights, which appeared to
greatly change their flight paths. If the light is above them, they might start orbiting it, but if it’s
behind them, they start tilting backwards and end up flying in circles or diving toward the ground.
Researchers have long warned that light pollution is a big driving force in the dramatic decline
in insect populations. Moths and other insects that become trapped around lamps become
easily
caught by bats. The artificial lighting can also fool them into thinking it is daytime, causing them to
bed down and skip a night’s feeding.
There are, Fabian believes, helpful lessons from the research. “What this tells us is that the
direction of artificial light matters. Could we change lighting environments to not trap insects For
we’re facing a massive decline in insects around the world, and artificial light at night is one of the
factors that could potentially be leading to this decline,” Fabian said.
32.What do the underlined words “nailed down” in paragraph 1 mean
A.Popularized widely. B.Discussed openly.
C.Defined accurately. D.Explored academically.
{#{QQABTQCtwggQkITACB5rQw3mCgsYkIAiLAgEwRAQqAxigAFAFKA=}#}

A.they can’t keep their balance.
B.they use improper flight attitude.
C.they lose track of which way is up.
D.they are attracted to lights from far away.
34.What is the significance of the research finding
A.It may lead to better conservation of insects.
B.Natural enemies of insects will be got rid of.
C.Artificial lighting will be greatly reduced at night.
D.It may raise concerns for insects’ eating behavior.
35.What is the text mainly about
A.Why insects lose their ability to fly at night.
B.Why artificial light and evolution trap insects.
C.How artificial light impacts insect populations.
D.How insects evolved distinct strategies of flight.

第二节(满分 25 分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Most people think that procrastination (拖 延 症 ) is a negative habit. But people like me who
routinely put off doing assignments, are likely to defend our “slower” approach to getting tasks done.
I'm the only procrastination in my family. My parents and sister were all born with the “do it
right now” gift. They are always in a rush, as if closely rushed by an invisible deadline. Personally, I
prefer a more relaxed pace. When my parents voiced their concern about my tendencies, saying
“Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today,” “No way!” I responded, confidently
presenting my research as a defense. It said people procrastinated when they need to solve a
problem
or commit to a topic or project. In these cases, delaying a decision can be beneficial. This was
because our minds continue to reflect on problems even when we were not actively thinking about
them, which could lead to more creative solutions. My findings filled me with satisfaction and pride.
My method of getting things done was just as good as my sister’s…or so I thought.
At school we’d been talking about architecture and design. As part of the final assessment my
teacher Mr. Smith announced an exciting project that each student would have a month to complete.
We were expected to choose our materials, construct a small building and make use of things we had
learned in class. Not only would the winners receive extra credit, but the winning constructions
would be proudly displayed in the cafeteria. “I have no clue how I could get it done,” my friend Nate
sighed in despair. I didn’t say anything. Not because I shared his anxiety but because I was not
nervous at all. I loved hands-on projects! Picturing my brilliant work exhibited in the cafeteria, I was
fully convinced that I would definitely produce something that could impress everyone. So relaxed
was I that I didn’t give it a second thought for weeks.

应用文
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am applying for the activity planner for the coming-of-age ceremony falling on Jan 15th.
This once-in-a-lifetime ceremony, I believe, is a golden opportunity to impress upon us
students the significance of shouldering responsibility and fulfilling our obligation as a young
adult. ①To make this event memorable, firstly, we will invite the principal to deliver an
inspiring speech articulating the real meaning of being a mature grown-up. ②Then, we will walk
through the Longmen, a typical signifier of adulthood, with our parents, with photos taken to mark
this special occasion.
Hope my creativity above will land me this position.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

Para.1 Before I knew it, I had only one day left for the project. In a panic I hastily and quickly
glued together what I pulled out from our recycle bin, my hands shaking with the weight of each
hasty decision. The finished result looked miserable. Several of my classmates, including Nate,
had created amazingly detailed constructions. They used materials like clay, wood and so on and
were highly praised by Mr. Smith. When I saw their models, I felt even more embarrassed about
mine. It was obvious that they had put a lot more time into the assignment than I had.
Para.2 That taught me a great lesson. I learnt from that day the importance of deciding on
my priorities and budgeting my time. From then on, I tackled things a lot earlier instead of putting
things off until tomorrow. As a result, not only did I finish my tasks on time, but also I felt better
because I didn’t have to panic at the last minute. At the end of the semester, my work was chosen

really counted.
