Evan Budz, a 15-year-old boy from Ontario, Canada, is receiving global recognition for his invention: an autonomous bionic (自主仿生的) sea turtle robot. The robot, which uses AI to monitor (监测) ecological systems underwater, won Budz a first-place prize in the European Union Contest for Young Scientists.
Budz was inspired to create this project after he observed the fluent movement of a turtle while camping. He saw potential in the way the turtle moved and invented a propulsion (推进) method that copies the swimming motion of green sea turtles in water. Not only is it a unique way to move through the water, but it also has less impact on the very environments that scientists are trying to protect.
“Water habitats are important for humanity, and the routine surveying of these environments has become necessary,” Budz explained. “Using a creative bionic robot for such analysis ensures low ecological disruption (生态破坏).”
Budz said the robot uses a computer vision imaging system powered by AI to measure coral health, which can detect coral bleaching (珊瑚白化) with 96% correctness. “The information gathered by the robot will ideally allow the right organizations to identify where these threats may be occurring, increasing awareness and supporting efforts to increase the overall health of impacted areas,” Budz said.
“For ecological monitoring, I want to trouble the environment as little as possible,” he added. “That’s why I designed the robot to imitate the turtle, which allows it to conduct monitoring without disrupting other living things.”
For Budz, it’s just another step in protecting the planet, a cause he has cared about for much of his adolescence. “I’ve been conducting a lot of different research and article reviews, and find that the environment is becoming increasingly more impacted by global warming and other human-caused impacts.”
24. What inspired Evan Budz to invent the autonomous bionic sea turtle robot
A. His desire to get recognition. B. The prize of the contest.
C. The movement of a sea animal. D. His passion for AI development.
25. What is a feature of Budz’s robot
A. It’s fast. B. It’s low-cost.
C. It’s energy-saving. D. It’s environment-friendly.
26. What does the underlined word “imitate” mean in paragraph 5
A. Copy. B. Track. C. Control. D. Describe.
27. What can be known about Budz
A. He is socially responsible.
B. He is worried about his future career.
C. He aims to become a famous scientist.
D. He is uninterested in the impact of global warming.

The rise of social media has changed many aspects (方面) of our lives, and travel is no exception. Social media has completely changed the way we travel, making it more accessible (可获得的), shareable, and sometimes, more expressive. Understanding its impact can help travelers know about this new environment while keeping a balance between the truth and social media influence.
One of the most significant ways social media has changed travel is by providing a never-ending stream of travel inspiration. In the past, people depended on travel magazines, guidebooks, or word of mouth to learn about new destinations. Today, with just a phone in hand, users can look through amazing images, videos, and stories from all corners of the world, making travel dreams more accessible than ever before.
Influencers, bloggers, and even average travelers share their experiences, introducing viewers to places they may have never considered. Social media is filled with hidden attractions, unique experiences and lesser-known destinations, which has aroused people’s desire for travel and their curiosity about faraway places. This constant flow of inspiration fuels the desire to explore new places, contributing to a more adventurous and globally aware generation of travelers.
Planning travel has been changed by social media, too. Instead of depending only on traditional travel agents or booking websites, people turn to social media platforms (平台) to research destinations, accommodations, and ments and travel vlogs (视频日志) provide real-time insights and tips that guide travel decisions.
While social media has opened up a world of inspiration, it has also introduced new pressures. The fear of missing out has become a major reason for travel. Seeing friends or influencers posting pictures from new locations can stir a desire to try those experiences. This has led to an increase in last-minute bookings, the rise of casual (随意的) short trips, and a growing emphasis on completing the destinations on one’s life list.
28. What can be learned about travel information before the rise of social media
A. It provided more details. B. It was less easy to get.
C. It sounded more interesting. D. It gave people more ideas.
29. What is a result of sharing travel experiences online
A. Bloggers are put in danger. B. Old places begin to disappear.
C. More people want to go traveling. D. New travelers become less aware of safety.
30. What is the main reason for social media-driven travel
A. Fast bookings. B. Cost savings.
C. A chance to show off. D. The fear of missing out.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Why Travelers Use Social Media for Trips
B. When Social Media Starts Influencing Travel
C. What Benefits Social Media Brings to Tourism
D. How Social Media Changes the Way We Travel
D
A major study has investigated the relationship between walking and the risk of developing chronic (慢性的) back problems. The findings could save the healthcare system significant amounts of money while also easing many people’s back pain—if we just follow the simple advice provided.
The results are clear: People who walk a lot have less back pain than people who do not walk much—and the amount is what matters most, not the intensity (强度). It is better to walk a lot than to walk fast.
“People who walk more than 100 minutes every day have a 23% lower risk of back problems than those who walk 78 minutes or less,” said Rayane Haddadj, a PhD candidate at the Department of Public Health.
It probably comes as no surprise that physical activity is good for your back, but until now we have not actually known whether the amount of low-intensity walking we do also helps prevent back problems. “Intensity also plays a role in the risk of long-term back problems, but not as much as the daily amount of walking,” emphasized Haddadj.
The results may be important in relation to preventing chronic back problems. Until now, there has been little research on the prevention of these types of problems. It is well known that physical activity can prevent a wide range of illnesses and diseases. This study is important because it confirms that physical activity, and especially daily walking, can help prevent long-term back problems.
“The findings highlight the importance of finding time to be physically active—to prevent both chronic back problems and a number of other diseases. Over time, this could lead to major savings for society,” said Paul Jarle Mork, a professor at the Department of Public Health and Nursing.
32. What does the first paragraph stress about the findings
A. Patients’ answer. B. Public concern.
C. Practical benefits. D. Simple advice.
33. What is the most important for reducing back pain according to the study
A. The place to walk. B. The pace of walking.
C. The size of walking steps. D. The amount of walking.
34. Which of the following needs more research
A. What effect walking can bring about. B. How to prevent chronic back pain.
C. Why physical activity is important. D. What causes chronic back problems.
35. What is Paul’s attitude towards the result of the study
A. Positive. B. Doubtful. C. Worried. D. Uncaring.

It was a bright and sunny Saturday morning. I had just finished a long week of schoolwork and was looking forward to a relaxing day. At first, I planned to stay at home and watch some of my favorite TV shows. However, my best friend Linda, tied up with homework, called to say she’d left her textbook at school and ask me to get it for their afternoon study session. I agreed and headed to the school.
When I arrived at the school bus stop, there were a lot of people. Some were rushing to catch their buses, while others were waiting patiently. Among the crowd, I noticed a young woman pacing back and forth, looking extremely anxious. She was holding a map in her hand, but it seemed like she was having a hard time making sense of it. Next to her stood a man, who was constantly checking his watch and shaking his head in frustration (沮丧).
Feeling curious, I walked over and asked in a friendly tone, “Are you okay It looks like you’re having some trouble.” The woman looked up and explained, “We’re tourists from another country, and we’re trying to get to the famous art museum in the city, but we can’t figure out which bus to take.”
I smiled reassuringly (安慰地). “Don’t worry. I can help you with that. I’ve lived in this city for a long time, and I know the bus routes (路线) well.” The man’s face lit up, and he said,” That would be wonderful! We’ve been standing here for ages, and we’re starting to get really worried that we’ll miss our chance to visit the museum.”

W: It was my daughter’s birthday yesterday. I wanted to surprise her when she got home from school, so I planned to make a chocolate cake and take her to a restaurant for a big meal.
M: Fantastic plans. What happened next
W: I was about to make the cake when I realized that I had forgotten to buy chocolate, so I went to the nearest shop to get some. But when I was almost home, I just couldn’t find my keys anywhere.
M: What bad luck! So what did you do
W: I sat down on the doorstep of my house and waited for her. To make matters worse, I left the house without an umbrella yesterday afternoon.
M: Oh, it rained heavily yesterday afternoon, although it was sunny in the morning. You poor thing!
W: Yeah, I looked like a drowned rat. When we finally got into the house, we ordered takeout and spent the night together watching her favorite movie.

【原文】M: In today’s world of fast-paced games, apps, websites and short videos, people’s attention may easily get transferred. Several studies have shown that the most common amount of time people spend looking at a piece of art is about 10 seconds. Some people may spend more time, but not much more—the average is about 28 seconds. You might expect people to slow down when they’re in museums full of works of art, but you would be wrong. At the Tate Modern Museum in London, it’s even worse. People there spend an average of just 8 seconds on each artwork. Most visitors do another important thing—take pictures of themselves. In recent years, museums have been working to change this behavior. Today, over 170 museums around the world are celebrating “Slow Art Day”. They are asking their visitors to spend at least 5 to 10 minutes looking at just one work of art. Most of the museums taking part in “Slow Art Day” are choosing just a few works for their visitors to focus on. Some of the museums are offering opportunities for visitors to talk about the artworks and share their ideas afterward.

A. Copy. B. Track. C. Control. D. Describe.

A. Positive. B. Doubtful. C. Worried. D. Uncaring.

67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

When I finally returned from school with the textbook, Linda was anxiously waiting for me.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
I pointed out the nearest bus stop heading to the museum to them. I carefully explained to them how to get there. To make sure they wouldn’t get lost, I even drew a simple route diagram on a piece of paper, for which they were extremely grateful. They kept thanking me, saying that without my help, they would have been in a real mess. After making sure they understood the directions clearly, I realized that I had spent quite some time helping them. Looking at my watch, I suddenly remembered Linda’s textbook. I hurriedly said goodbye to the tourists and rushed to school to get Linda’s textbook.
When I finally returned from school with the textbook, Linda was anxiously waiting for me. “There you are. I’ve been calling you nonstop,” she exclaimed, grabbing the textbook eagerly. I quickly explained how I’d helped the lost tourists find their way to the museum and how that had delayed me slightly. Linda laughed and said, “Only you would help strangers when you’re already doing someone else a favor!” We both laughed as we headed to our study session, with me feeling satisfied that my morning had turned into something much more meaningful than just fetching a forgotten textbook.
