(A)
Good
ideas
often
start
with
really
silly
questions.
Bill
Bowerman
was
making
breakfast
one
day.
As
he
stood
there
making
waffles
(华夫饼干)
for
his
son,
he
wondered
what
would
happen
if
he
poured
rubber
(25)
________
his
waffle
iron.
Later,
he
tried
it
and
the
result
looked
something
like
the
bottom
of
most
sports
shoes
we
see
today.
Still,
when
he
took
this
idea
to
several
existing
shoe
companies,
he
was
laughed
at.
In
fact,
every
single
company
turned
him
down.
Though
rather
discouraged,
Bowerman
persevered
and
went
on
(26)
________(form)
his
own
company,
making
NIKE
athletic
shoes.
Sometimes
good
ideas
grow
out
of
frustration.
When
Fred
Smith
was
a
student
at
Yale
University,
he
needed
to
have
some
paperwork
(27)
________
(deliver)
across
the
country
the
next
day.
Smith
was
amazed
to
find
out
that
overnight
delivery
was
impossible.
He
sat
for
a
long
while
(28________
(wonder)
why.
Why
couldn’t
there
be
a
reliable
overnight
mail
delivery
service
He
decided
to
design
one.
Smith
did
just
that
and
turned
his
design
into
(29)
________
class
project.
His
business
professor
gave
him
only
a
C
for
his
efforts.
However,
Smith
was
not
through.
He
improved
the
ideas
in
that
class
project
and
eventually
turned
them
into
one
of
the
first
and
(30)
________
(successful)
overnight
mail
services
in
the
world—FedEx.
We
know
today,
of
course,
that
each
of
these
ideas
led
to
an
incredibly
successful
product
or
service
(31)
________
has
changed
the
way
many
of
us
live.
The
best
questions
are
usually
open-ended
and
are
often
silly.
Children
aren’t
afraid
to
ask
such
questions,
but
adults
frequently
are.
Think
how
different
the
world
might
be
(32)
________
people
never
asked
“silly”
question!
(B)
Cassandra
Feeley
finds
it
hard
(33)________
(manage)
on
her
husband’s
income.
So
this
year
she
did
something
more
than
a
hobby:
She
planted
vegetables
in
her
yard.
For
her
first
garden,
Ms.
Feeley
has
put
in
15
tomato
plants,
and
five
rows
of
a
variety
of
vegetables.
The
family’s
old
farm
house
has
become
a
chicken
house,
and
(34)________
residents
are
arriving
next
month.
Last
year,
Ms.
Rita
Gartin
kept
a
small
garden.
This
year
she
(35)________
(make)
it
much
larger
because,
she
said,
“The
cost
of
everything
is
going
up
and
I
was
looking
to
lose
a
few
pounds,
too;
so
it’s
a
win-win
situation
all
around.”
Driven
by
higher
living

a
falling
economy,
they
are
among
the
growing
number
of
Americans,
(36)________
have
taken
up
vegetable
gardening
for
the
first
time.
Others
have
increased
the
size
of
their
existing
gardens.
Seed
companies
and
garden
shops
say
that
(37)________
the
1970s
,
there
has
not
been
such
an
increase
in
interest
in
growing
food
at
home.
Now
many
gardens
across
the
country
have
been
sold
out
for
several
months.
In
Austin,
Tex.,
some
of
the
gardens
have
a
three-year
waiting
list.
George
C.
Ball
Jr.,
owner
of
a
company,
said
sales
of
vegetable
seeds
and
plants
are
up
by
40%
over
last
year,
double
the
average
growth
of
the
last
five
years.
Mr.
Ball
argues
that
some
of
the
reasons
have
been
building
for
the
last
few
years.
The
big
one
is
the
(38)________
(strike)
rise
in
the
cost
of
food
like
bread
and
milk,
together
with
the
increases
in
the

vegetables.
Food
prices
have
increased
(39)________
________
higher
oil

People
are
now
driving

so
there

(40)________

grief
of
your
response.
Why
can’t
your
parental
obligations
stretch
to
all
three
of
your
children,
not
just
your
two
recent
ones
In
our
previous
conversations,
which
ended
suddenly,
as
your
older
son
needed
to
be
put
to
bed,
I’d
ask
you
how
he
was
doing
at
school,
and
you’d
talk
about
the
weather.
No
one
listening
would
be
able
to
tell
there
was
any
difference
between
our
relationship
and
one
you
might
have
with
a
neighbour.
Forget
your
excuses
–
that
the
flight
to
visit
me
is
expensive
and
that
you
need
to
look
after
your
other
children
(I
hope
you
can
see
the
irony(讽刺)
in
that).
While
you
watch
their
school
plays,
don’t
you
consider
that
I
would
have
liked
you
to
be
there
at
mine
Perhaps
the
reason
I
didn’t
knock
on
your
door
was
that
I
just
don’t
care
anymore.
I’m
exhausted
trying
to
make
this
work.
Maybe
a
part
of
me
wasn’t
actually
bothered
whether
I
saw
you
or
not
that
day
—
you’ve
already
lost
so
much
meaning
in
my
life;
you
are
someone
who
just
sends
me
a
birthday
card.
This
isn’t
me
being
bitter,
although
I
was
initially.
It’s
just
a
way
of
telling
you
how
I
really
feel.

When
you
think
of
the
cinema,
the
phrase
"watching
a
movie"
probably
comes
to
mind,
and,
in
fact,
moviemakers
work
very
hard
to
make
their
films
interesting
visually.
But
movies
also
contain
stories,
dialogues,
music
and
sound
effects
---
things
that
people
don't
need
to
see
in
order
to
enjoy.
Movie
reviewer
Marty
Klein
has
created
a
website
to
help
visually
impaired
people
choose
movies
that
they
can
follow
without
the
help
of
an
assistant
to
explain
what
is
happening
on
the
screen.
Klein
gives
movies
a
rating
from
1
to
10
based
on
several
factors.
A
movie
receives
a
high
rating
if
there
are
only
a
few
main
characters
whose
voices
are
easy
to
recognize.
Klein
also
likes
an
interesting
story
without
too
many
changes
in
time
and
place.
A
large
amount
of
dialogue
between
the
characters
is
better
than
long
silences
or
noisy
action
scenes.
Of
course,
visually
impaired
people
can
enjoy
many
films
with
the
help
from
a
friend
who
doesn’t
mind
explaining
the
parts
of
a
movie
that
can
only
be
seen.
But
that
means
that
someone
is
talking
during
the
movie,
which
could
annoy
some
audience
members.
It
also
means
that
these
people
cannot
go
to
the
movies
independently.
To
solve
these
problems,
some
movie
theaters
have
begun
to
offer
recorded
audio
descriptions
of
the
movements,
scenery,
and
special
effects
that
other
audience
members
can
see
on
the
screen.
Visually
impaired
moviegoers
receive
a
wireless
headset
to
wear
during
the
movie.
This
allows
them
to
listen
to
the
narration
while
still
hearing
a
movie's
music
and
other
sounds
that
surround
them
in
the
theater.
Another
blind
movie
reviewer,
Jay
Forry,
writes
movie
reviews
that
are
published
on
his
website.
He
also
writes
for
newspapers
and
is
a
guest
on
radio
shows.
Forry
gives
movies
one
of
five
ratings,
including,
"So
good,
blind
people
will
like
it"
and
"I'm
glad
I
couldn't
see
it."
Forry
became
a
writer
after
going
blind
at
the
age
of
20
and
he
decided
to
go
to
college.
His
first
articles
appeared
in
the
college
newspaper,
and
Forry's
writing
skills
and
sense
of
humor
are
what
keep
people
reading
his
reviews
or
listening
to
them
on
the
radio.
After
"watching"
The
Sixth
Sense,
Forry
commented
that
he
thought
the
movie
was
excellent,
but
that
he
envied
the
boy
who
was
the
main
character:
"He
had
six
senses,
and
I
only
have
four."
70.Which

something
that

are
completely
deaf
B.
can't

anything
C.
are
lame
when

D.

72.
Which
movie
might
receive
a
good
rating
from
Marty
Klein
A.
A
martial
arts
film
with
many
fight
scenes.
B.
A
drama
that
often
shifts
between
the
past
and
the
present.
C.
A
romantic
comedy
with
four
main
characters
and
lots
of
conversations.
D.
A
space
adventure
with
many
explosions
and
special
effects.
73.
What
do
theaters
do
concerning
visually
impaired
people
A.
They
assign
staff
to
explain
some
parts
of
the
movie.
B.
They
arrange
movies
especially
for
these
people.
C.
They
offer
recorded
audio
descriptions
of
the
movie.
D.
They
persuade
these
people
not
to
go
to
the
theater
alone.
(C)
There
is
nothing
new
about
TV
and
fashion
magazines
giving
girls
unhealthy
ideas
about
how
thin
they
need
to
be
in
order
to
be
considered
beautiful.
What
is
surprising
is
the
method
psychologists
at
the
University
of
Texas
have
come
up
with
to
keep
girls
from
developing
eating
disorders.
Their
main
weapon
against
super
skinny
models
is
a
brand
of
civil
disobedience
called
“body
activism”.
Since
2001,
more
than
1,000
high
school
and
college
students
in
the
U.S.
have
participated
in
the
Body
Project,
which
works
by
getting
girls
to
understand
how
they
have
been
buying
into
the
notion
that
you
have
to
be
thin
to
be
happy
or
successful.
After
criticizing
the
so-called
thin
idea,
participants
are
directed
to
carry
out
small
and
nonviolent
acts.
They
are
ranged
from
slipping
the
notes
saying
“Love
your
body
the
way
it
is”
and
writing
letters
to
Mattel,
makers
of
the
impossibly
proportioned
Barbie
doll.
According
to
a
study
in
the
latest
issue
of
the
Journal
of
Consulting
and
Clinical
Psychology,
the
risk
of
developing
eating
disorders
was
reduced
61%
among
Body
Project
participants.
And
they
continued
to
exhibit
positive
body-image
attitudes
as
long
as
three
years
after
completing
the
program,
which
consists
of
four
one-hour
sessions.
Such
lasting
effects
may
be
due
to
girls’
realizing
not
only
how
they
were
being
influenced
but
also
who
was
benefiting
from
the
societal
pressure
to
be
thin.
“These
people
who
promote
the
perfect
body
really
don’t
care
about
you
at
all,”
says
Kelsey
Hertel,
a
high
school
junior
and
Body
Project
veteran
in
Eugene,
Oregon.
“They
purposefully
make
you
feel
like
less
of
a
person
so
you’ll
buy
their
stuff
and
they’ll
make
money.”

144
miles
away
from
Santiago,
the
capital
of
Chile.
The
quake,
which
was
followed
by
a
series
of
aftershocks,
was
felt
throughout
the
nation
as
well
as
in
Brazil,
Bolivia
and
Argentina.
It
caused
a
low-intensity
tsunami
that
affected
the
coastal
area
but
did
not
cause
any
injuries.
The
powerful
quake
left
3,000
houses
damaged.
And
more
than
1
million
people
withdrew
from
their
homes
due
to
the
tsunami
alert
that
happened
after
the
quake.
The
port
suffered
serious
damage
from
the
tsunami
and
is
currently
unusable.
Some
boats
are
stranded
in
the
wetlands
and
others
are
stuck
inland.
“Chileans
are
used
to
these
misadventures
handed
to
us
by
nature.
We
came
through
it
strongly.
We
are
convinced
that
this
is
an
opportunity
to
show
the
heart
of
the
Chilean
people,”
said
the
Minister
Jorge
Burgos.

W:
Good
evening!
Adam
Cooper.
May
I
help
you
M:
Hello,
my
name
is
Ellen
Smith.
I
want
to
complain
about
a
Korean
Barbeque
Restaurant.
W:
OK,
can
I
take
down
your
phone
number
M:
My
mobile
phone
number
is
180-1752-7556.
W:
Alright!
So
what
would
you
like
to
complain
about
M:
Actually
two
things.
First,
the
restaurant
dumps
its
waste
on
the
street
and
you
can
imagine
what
that
attracts—flies
and
mosquitoes!
W:
Ok!
I’ve
got
that!
And
the
second
problem
M:
The
shop
doesn’t
have
professional
equipment
for
oil-smoke
draining.
It
smells
bad
sometimes.
W:
Got
it!
What’s
the
address
of
the
shop
M:
It’s
238,
Zhongshan
Road.
W:
OK!
We’ll
look
into
it
and
call
you
back.
M:
Thank
you.
Goodbye!

W:
So,
Jonathan,
let’s
talk
a
bit
about
your
travels
and
this
new
thing
called
couch
surfing.
Can
you
explain
what
couch
surfing
is
M:
Couch
surfing
is
a
fairly
new
website,
and
it
allows
travelers
from
different
parts
of
the
world
to
meet
people
in
the
destinations
they’re
going
to.
People
offer
a
couch
in
their
homes
or
perhaps
space
on
their
floor,
and
in
return
you’re
expected
to
offer
the
same
kind
of
things
to
people
who
might
visit
you.
W:
Is
it
for
free
M:
Yes,
but
it’s
not
for
people
who
want
to
save
money.
It
is
for
people
who
want
to
share
their
experiences
and
meet
someone
from
the
local
culture.
W:
So,
have
you
actually
done
this
-
couch
surfing
M:
Yes,
I’ve
done
it
a
couple
of
times.
W:
What
about
security
I
mean
are
you
worried
about
safety
and
security
with
this
M:
I
think
some
people
do
worry
but
couch
surfing
has
a
system
where
you
can
guarantee
for
people
you
have
stayed
with
and
you
can
leave
references.
W:
OK,
well
thanks
Jonathan.
M:
No
problem.
