·Get creative. The best way to ease pressure on over-touristed destinations is to go somewhere else.Though overtourism is described as a problem affecting the entire world, it’s actually concentrated to a small number of extremely popular spots. That means you have tons of less-visited options to choose from.38.You can still find relatively undiscovered places. Why not try a regional alternative or check out a popular destination’s lesser-known sights?
·39.( ) Minimize impact and maximize experience by skipping major holidays or rush hour. You’ll compete with fewer tourists, save money, experience a different side of a popular place, and boost the economy when tourism is traditionally slower.
A.Visit during off-peak times. B.So, should we stop traveling?
C.Travel for you and no one else. G.Consider giving back to the communities you’re visiting.

I keep two reference books close-by on my desk: dictionary and thesaurus (同义词词典).I don’t trust my laptop’s spellchecker.37.It takes no account of the context. Of course, these days there are plenty of online dictionaries and thesauruses, but I’m old-fashioned enough to prefer a hard cover and pages I can leaf through with my fingers.I use the Concise Oxford Dictionary and the Collins Thesaurus.
38.( ) It should give you a precise definition of each word, thus differentiating it from other words whose meanings are similar, but not identical. It will also usually show how the word is pronounced.
C.But I still don’t want to replace them.
D.But a dictionary can be a pleasure to read.
E.Of course, a dictionary is not only for spelling.
F.That means good grammar and no spelling mistakes.
It should give you a precise definition of each word ... how the word is pronounced.

Parisians are different from you and me.They never look lazy or untidy. As someone noted in this paper a couple of weeks ago, they eat great food and never gain weight.38.The food is so delicious that you don’t need much of it to make you happy. French strawberries do not taste like cardboard.Instead, they explode in your mouth like little flavor bombs.
39.( ) On our first morning in Paris, I went around the corner to the food market to pick up some groceries.I bought a handful of perfectly ripe small strawberries and a little sweet melon. My husband and I agreed they were the best fruit we had ever eaten. But they cost 18!
D.The amazing food is mainly consumed by local farmers.
E.That’s not the only reason the French eat less than we do.
F.Our aim was to see if we could live, in some way, like real Parisians.

Why are indoor plants good for you?
Will Spoelstra, who works at the Royal Botanic Gardens, says, “38.( ). Test 1
Gratitude, which is a positive emotional state, can have a profound impact on our mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing.
Gratitude offers us a way of embracing all that makes our lives what they are. 1.( ); it includes the willingness to expand our attention so that we perceive (感知) more of the goodness we are always receiving.
Robert Emmons is one of the world’s leading experts on the science of gratitude. 2.( ). The first is an affirmation of goodness: People can learn to wake up to the good around them and notice the gifts they have received. The second part of gratitude is recognizing that the source of this goodness rests outside of oneself — that we receive these gifts from other people, and sometimes from fate, or the natural world. 3.( ).
In one study involving nearly 300 adults seeking counseling services at a university, one group wrote a gratitude letter each week for three weeks. The gratitude group reported significantly better mental health (compared to the control group) at follow-up, 12 weeks after the last writing exercise. 4.( ). A study of this practice found that people who wrote down three things that had gone well in their day and identified the causes of those good things were significantly happier and less depressed.
5.( ). When you practice gratitude, you shift your thoughts away from negative emotions and uncomfortable sensations. Instead, you begin to focus on good things that you may have overlooked. Rather than focusing on the misfortune of having a flat tire, for example, you consider how your job has made it possible to pay for repairs. Or you shift your focus to how fortunate you are to have close friends who are willing to drive you home.
A.He defines gratitude as having two parts
B.A little gratitude can do wonders for your mood
C.Gratitude isn’t just a happy feeling for our present lives
D.However, many people don’t realize the power of gratitude
E.Another type of written gratitude practice is counting blessings
F.Gratitude involves showing appreciation for the things that are meaningful to you
G.In other words, gratitude helps people realize they wouldn’t be where they are without the help of others
The first is ... The second part ...,揭示了感恩所包含的两部分内容,因此A项符合语境,A项中的He指代上句中的Robert Emmons。
Test 2
As long as you live, you have an opportunity to change and pursue your life’s purpose. 1.( ), you seek to focus on what you want to create rather than dwell on problems. This is a concern for people besides self and family. Studies suggest that helping others can increase your happiness and improve your health.
When you’re doing something for others, you don’t let the little ups and downs of life get to you. 2.( ). According to psychologist Susan Krauss Whitbourne, putting others before yourself is a “stealth superpower”. “The most ‘generative’ people have better long-term wellbeing” than people who focus purely on their own happiness.
According to a 2007 AmeriCorps study,“A growing body of research indicates that volunteering provides not just social benefits, but individual health benefits as well.” 3.( ): those who volunteer have lower mortality rates (死亡率), greater functional ability, and lower rates of depression later in life than those who do not volunteer.
4.( ). Benefitting from a sense of purpose can come from supporting your family and friends or mentoring someone. To reap the benefits of helping others, you don’t need to save the world, just improve your little corner of it.
It’s never too late to discover what you can do to make others happy and bring it to life through your actions in the world. 5.( ). This is because you have amassed the wisdom, skills, and resilience to throw yourself into a project with clarity and energy clout. Your gifts to others will have great value, not only to those who receive them directly but also to everyone their lives touch through an infinite range of time.
A.If you concentrate on your own life
B.When your purpose is to help others
C.You will improve your own happiness and health
D.You don’t have to do something huge to be of service
E.Instead, you focus on something higher and more meaningful
F.Your older years can be your greatest opportunity to contribute
G.The study concluded that there is a strong relationship between volunteering and health
This is a concern for people besides self and family.
It’s never too late to ...
