How Teachers Like to Communicate With Parents
These days, teachers have a wide range of communication options for reaching parents — newsletters, emails, messaging apps, phone calls, and the classic flyer or paper notice.
Modern apps and platforms have allowed teachers to share videos and images, show parents student progress, and provide live updates and announcements to all the families in their class. Still, experts say teachers should be strategic about how they use tech tools to communicate with parents. For instance, they should be mindful of the fact that not every family has access to smartphones with internet access. And teachers should be clear with their expectations and boundaries for using the tools, so parents don’t always expect immediate responses after working hours.
Educators voted in an informal poll (调查) about how technology has affected their communication with parents. Half of the 510 respondents said technology has helped, while 5% said it hurts their communication. Forty-five percent said it has pros and cons. Here are some of their responses.
“Tracks of documentation sent. If they choose not to read it or respond, not my problem. There is no more, ‘he said, she said’.”
Elle M.
“To ensure clear communication, all assignment details, including deadlines, are documented and accessible to parents, students, administration, and teachers. The homework was assigned with sufficient advance notice. If the work has been submitted, please show me the digital submission record on your device now.”
Phil K.
“I’ve noticed parents tend to be more attentive when I pass a piece of paper to their child. I can send so many reminders electronically and still have parents not pay attention. We have alarms and calendars on our phones, and we avoid using them.”
Christina W.
“Parents still don’t read emails and still only read and respond to text messages. It’s amazing that we haven’t figured this out.”
Shawn R.
21. What do experts suggest teachers do when using tech tools to communicate with parents
A. Make instant responses. B. Set communication rules.
C. Provide personalized visuals. D. Recommend smartphone apps.
22. What do Elle M. and Phil K. have in common regarding teacher-parent communication
A. They prefer paper notes over digital communication tools.
B. They complain that parents rarely respond to electronic messages.
C. They suggest setting clear boundaries for after-work communication.
D. They think technology helps avoid misunderstandings and provides evidence.
23. Which form of communication does Cristina W. find most effective
A. Phone calls. B. Digital paper. C. Physical sheet. D. Email reminders.

Staten Island’s Freshkills, once a dumping ground (垃圾倾倒场) for New Yorkers, is now a breathtaking park. The first part was opened to the public in October. With its grassland, hills and waterways offering hiking and superb bird-watching, this is a great example of urban habitat restoration.
Freshkills, known for its stench, was in operation for 53 years. Locals used to avoid the place and had to hold their breath when they passed by. It was the world’s largest dumping ground and was so huge that it could be seen from outer space. Freshkills was closed 22 years ago, and 21 acres of it were opened in mid-October.
“I’m happy to see that this area has become a new green space. It is a home for local plants and animals and gives the residents of Staten Island a place to be outdoors, exercise and breathe fresh air. The newly opened park features walking paths, hiking trails, seven acres of native seed plots, a bird-observation tower, and a deck that overlooks the hills, grassland and waterways,” says a local called Adams. “I used to avoid approaching the place, but now I’m looking forward to exploring it.”
This project is entirely focused on environmental management. Solar panels provide lighting in the parking lot and restrooms, while the toilets are composting (堆肥), returning waste to soil. A complex system was used to decompose the landfill waste and to protect the new topsoil. There are also plans to reuse the gas and liquid byproducts of the decomposing waste. There was once 29,000 tons of trash dumped daily at Freshkills.
Today, the site is totally transformed, home to 1,000 acres of grassland habitat that was seeded with native grass mix. This is attracting many birds that have not been seen for years. Locals will come to Freshkills to relax and connect with nature.
24. What does the underlined word “stench” in paragraph 2 probably mean
A. Fresh and cool air. B. Unpleasant smell.
C. Breathtaking scenery. D. Abandoned grassland.
25. What does Adams think of current Freshkills
A. Unapproachable. B. Undeveloped. C. Fascinating. D. Well-equipped.
26. What does the park center on
A. Its complex history. B. Its strict management.
C. Its rapid urbanization. D. Its environmental protection.
27. What is the author’s main purpose in writing the text
A. To advocate for the reuse of landfill sites worldwide.
B. To advertise the recreational facilities of Freshkills Park.
C. To report on the transformation of a former dumping ground.
D. To analyze the environmental benefits of urban habitat restoration.

Earlier this year, Alicia Meyer, a researcher at the University of Pennsylvania, tried to figure out the true ownership of a pair of leather gloves that rested in the university’s library for nearly a century. The long-forgotten mysterious gloves couldn’t have belonged to William Shakespeare. Or could they
Few relics tied to Shakespeare, who died in 1616, have survived the centuries. The writer’s signature is extremely rare, existing only in legal documents. However, that Penn may possess a Shakespearean treasure is no surprise. Its Shakespeare collections, mostly from the donations of H. H. Furness, the greatest Shakespearean scholar of his time, are world-famous. Among the Shakespearean jewels at Penn’s library is a 1611 edition of Hamlet, one of only 19 copies in the world. But nothing like the gloves. They caused a stir when Furness’ son donated them in 1931.
Meyer reached out to conservation librarian Tessa Gadomski for help, who studied them with technology normally used to treat and care for rare books and papers. Examining the gloves under ultraviolet light, Gadomski searched for clues of any post-industrial materials, which would show the gloves were likely made or repaired after Shakespeare’s time. And found none. Next, she used x-ray fluorescence technology to search for signs of chromium(Cr) or titanium(Ti), commonly used in 18th- and 19th- century tanning techniques. Again, she found none.
It would fit that Shakespeare would own a pair of fancy gloves. Clothes, as he once famously wrote, make the man. His plays made the money. His father was a glove maker. Plus, it was common for rich people to donate clothes, and even gloves, to theaters for costumes, Meyer said.
“If he really wore them, then we feel like we’re somehow in the presence of him,” Penn professor Zachary Lesser said about the gloves. But in his heart of hearts, he feels it’s a long shot that they’ll ever truly know. He hopes the renewed attention could unearth some historical evidence that could definitively tie the gloves to the hands of perhaps the greatest writer the world has ever known.
28. Why is it not surprising that the gloves at Penn may belong to Shakespeare
A. The gloves have been kept there for years.
B. Penn has a history of seeking valuable relics.
C. Penn is known for owning rare Shakespearean items.
D. The gloves were proven by a Shakespearean scholar.
29. What was the significance of Gadomski’s work
A. It ruled out non-Shakespearean possibilities.
B. It confirmed the gloves’ link to Shakespeare.
C. It secured the gloves’ long-term preservation.
D. It uncovered post-industrial glove-making methods.
30. What is the function of Paragraph 4
A. To suggest another origin of the gloves. B. To conclude the findings of the research.
C. To support the assumption about the gloves. D. To provide more information about Shakespeare.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Where did the gloves Lead Us
B. Did Shakespeare Own These gloves
C. Shakespeare’s gloves Resurfaced at Penn
D. Long-forgotten gloves Found Their Owner

The days of high school football players huddled around their coach, eyes fixed on a chalkboard or dry-erase board as their coach diagrams plays and shouts adjustments, may come to an end, just like oversized shoulder pads and high-top cleats.
Modern-day coaches are now armed with internet-connected tablets that give them access to plays mere seconds after they occur. Large-screen televisions are common on sidelines, allowing coaches to address entire teams of players at the same time.
If a correction needs to be made or a scheme changed, coaches have the information literally at their fingertips. “With the system we use, there’s a lag time of five seconds from when the play happens to when it gets into our system,” Mounds View, Minnesota, football coach Aaron Moberg said. “It’s an awesome competitive advantage. We can see plays and make adjustments in real time. We don’t have to wait to do them at halftime.”
The areas behind the end lines of football fields, typically reserved for bands, cheerleaders and field maintenance equipment, are now filled with towers standing roughly 40 feet that house remote-controlled, high-definition video cameras for recording games and practices. Videos are uploaded and digitally stored, allowing coaches and coordinators to analyze plays and performances and create cut-ups, or edited highlight reels. “It is pretty incredible stuff,” said Norwood-Young America Central head coach Chris Goodwin, who was involved with filming games for the Gophers during the Glen Mason era. “We can make adjustments after one series. That’s huge.”
Drones(无人机) have also become more common, though the aerial vehicles are not allowed at MSHSL-sanctioned events, games or images for safety purposes and potential to create unwarranted distractions, according to the league’s handbook. Member schools can, however, use drones at practices.
Cost can be a barrier, but Ostlund, head football coach at Rochester Century High School said most experienced coaches saw the value in the new tech. As these tools evolve and become more accessible, they are set to redefine not only how plays are drawn up, but also how young athletes learn, adapt, and understand the game itself.
32. What is the function of Paragraph 1
A. To summarize football’s long history. B. To introduce the topic by contrast.
C. To criticize traditional coaching methods. D. To explain high school football rules.
33. What does “it” in paragraph 4 refer to
A. The process of uploading and digitally storing game videos.
B. The entire system of recording, storing, and analyzing video.
C. The traditional areas behind end lines used for bands and equipment.
D. The remote-controlled, high- definition video cameras on the towers.
34. Why are drones not allowed in MSHSL-sanctioned events
A. They are too expensive for most schools to afford.
B. They cannot provide high-definition videos for analysis.
C. They will interfere with the work of cheerleaders and bands.
D. They may cause safety problems and unnecessary distractions.
35. Which of the following is the best title for the passage
A. The Evolution of Football Equipment for Players
B. The Challenges of Applying New Technology in Football
C. How Technology Changes High School Football Coaching
D. Famous Coaches’ Opinions on Modern Football Technology

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。其中有两项为多余选项。
Growing up, I found the word Saturday almost equaled cleaning in my family. As soon as any child was able to use a dust cloth, he or she was assigned a chore (家务活). 36 Exceptions were made of course, but the older we grew, the more my parents expected us to balance these responsibilities.
Chores were part of my family’s way of functioning. We complained and tried to avoid them, but we never questioned why we did them. As a family, we all had roles in keeping the home running smoothly, and the responsibility grew with age. 37
When I was a kid, I knew when doing chores I was helping my family. It wasn’t until I grew into adulthood that I realized that chores are more than a list of tasks. 38 Being assigned chores communicates that each family member is needed and that their action or non-action affects every single other person living under the same roof.
Handling daily household chores is never easy, but doing them out of love for my family makes it manageable. 39 I enjoy jumping in to help whenever my parents need a hand. While working together, we have the chance to have meaningful conversations, share experiences, and build memories.
40 Household chores mean learning how to manage responsibility and understand kids’ role, not to mention practicing discipline, time management, and selflessness. All these consequences would seem to tip the scales (天平) in favor of chores.
A. It made sense to us, as much as we disliked it.
B. They create a sense of belonging within a family.
C. Household chores were a source of great stress for us.
D. Actually, doing chores alongside my family can make them a joy.
E. We had to complete our assigned chore before school assignments.
F. Allowing children to share burdens helps them recognize their strengths.
G. It also comes as no surprise that chores are important for personal growth.

The Sám, a native people there, are facing an existential 48 . Their lives and culture are 49 linked to the ancient forest and the reindeer that populate the region. The slow-growing lichen (地衣) and mushrooms which the reindeer 50 are not found in any pine plantations. 51 , the death of one means the death of the other, and an 52 future for an entire people.
“We’re not 53 in nature, but part of it.” Johan’s words echoed in my mind as I looked at the 54 forest of the North. Too many of us have forgotten this truth—and with that forgetfulness, we may risk the 55 of not only the wild but also ourselves.

It was a very cold morning as it had been raining very heavily the previous night. As my mother was feeling a little uncomfortable, my sister volunteered to drive me to school. I overslept and as a result, was a bit late for school. We got into the car hurriedly. The roads were already jammed with traffic. It appeared that everyone was late as well. My sister was a careful driver and despite the fact that I was late, she refused to drive fast on the slippery road. I was lucky she was such determined and careful person because a few hundred meters away from the school, we witnessed an accident.
It all happened in an instant, as most accidents do. A car took a left turning without signaling and a school bus crashed into it heavily. A few cars behind the school bus hit the bus as they could not stop in time and soon it became a pile-up. The car was damaged badly while the school bus also had some damage. And the already crowded road became more jammed with vehicles, which came to a mess. We wanted to help the victims. My sister drove to a stop at the roadside not too far from the accident spot.
The scene that greeted us was terrible. I first rushed to the car. The driver, a lady, lay trapped behind the wheel, unable to move. Three kids were in the back seat, their faces white with fear. Two of them were seriously hurt and bleeding from the head and hands. They were conscious although too weak and frightened to realize what had happened. We called an ambulance and while waiting, we tried as much as possible to help the victims. As a result of our joint efforts, the driver and the children were moved to safety and taken care of.

Then I rushed to the school bus filled with children’s cries.

After the ambulance had left, two policemen asked me about the accident.

第一节(满分 15 分)
Possible version:
Stand Up and Exercise, Everybody!
With the trend of neglecting outdoor activities, students are increasingly preferring to stay indoors, unwilling to exercise. In light of this, I’d like to recommend simple exercise—long rope jumping.
Long rope jumping offers unparalleled benefits. It’s easy to learn and doesn’t take up too much time, making it an ideal workout between classes. Moreover, this activity is fun and exciting for students of all ages. Not only does it enhance our physical well-being, but it also fosters a sense of teamwork.
From my perspective, long rope jumping is an excellent choice for students who want to stay fit while enjoying themselves. So, waste no more time and get moving. You are bound to fall in love with it!
第二节(满分 25 分)
Possible version:
Then I rushed to the school bus filled with children’s cries. Inside were the frightened schoolchildren who were crying and screaming for their parents. Many of them appeared to suffer from minor cuts and bruises on their arms and bodies in the crash. However, it was really fortunate that nobody was badly hurt. By then, a few adults entered the bus and together we instructed the children to come out of the bus slowly. Finally, we managed to calm them down. Soon, the doctors in an ambulance came to the scene.
After the ambulance had left, two policemen asked me about the accident. They listened attentively to our detailed account of the accident. They also praised my sister and me for our quick and brave actions. “Your calmness and willingness to help were crucial.” one officer said. “You set a great example of how ordinary people can make a real difference in an emergency.” Their words made me feel proud. It wasn’t about being late for school any more but about doing what’s right when others need help. By lending a helping hand, we not only ease others’ burden but also make our community a warmer and safer place for everyone.

M: Yes, and there’s more to it, like potatoes or other vegetables. It burnt my mouth, but I don’t think I’ve ever tasted a pie this good!(12) Now, where shall I put the empty pie case There is no rubbish bin around.
W: I have a garbage bag. (13) You can use it.
M: Why do you carry this with you (13)
W: For such a situation. Protecting the environment begins with not littering. (13)
M: Good for you. (13)
W: Look, how exciting — the players are coming out for the second half!
M: Yeah! It will be a close game!

Text 9 应对蜜蜂数量急剧减少的新研究 (第14题为总结题) (第15题为推断题)
M: I’m here with Professor Clark. (16) (17) Professor, do you bring us any good news about bees today
W: Yes. In recent years, bee numbers have dropped a lot, mainly due to chemical-heavy farming and climate change. (16) Phone signal and diseases also have impacts. But we have created a bee “superfood”! It can help increase their numbers.
M: That’s great. So, how can this new feed help
W: In tests, the number of bees increased by fifteen times after they ate it. This feed is rich in plant protein. Bees can eat it when there are not enough flowers, so they stay strong and keep raising babies.
M: Amazing. You must have been doing this for many years.
W: Since graduation. It’s taken me 20 years to focus on this project. (17) I love bees. I’ve been interested in biology since I was 10.
M: Having a brilliant mind like yours on board made all the difference. Let me thank you on behalf of every bee. Thank you for talking to us!
Text 10 参观爱丁堡忠犬鲍比 (第18题为推断题)
Across the road is the National Museum of Scotland, but that’s not our next point of interest. It’s actually right here. Please say hello to one of Scotland’s most famous dogs, Greyfriars Bobby! (19) (20) As you can see, this is just a statue of Bobby. The real dog died years ago. It was January 14th, 1872, to be exact. When he was very young, his owner, John Gray, sadly died. (19) Bobby spent the next fourteen years guarding John’s grave (坟 墓)! He loved his owner so much that he never wanted to be parted! Every day, people would see him sitting there. He became quite the celebrity! He was so popular that the leader of Edinburgh city at the time, Sir William Chambers, paid for Bobby’s dog license in 1867. (20) Bobby eventually died and was buried not far from his beloved owner, which means that even today, he remains by his owner’s side! Over the years, people have told many versions of this story. Countless books have been written, and films made! Greyfriars Bobby is a symbol of love and devotion (忠诚) to this day! In my opinion, this is the most touching part.
