Not yet assigned a final ESRB rating but anticipated to be rated Mature 17+. Appears only in
advertising, marketing, and promotional materials related to a physical (e.g., boxed) video game that
is expected to carry an ESRB rating, and should be replaced by a game’s ratings rating once it has
been assigned.
21.What primary function does the ESRB rating system serve for consumers
A.Standardizing gameplay mechanics across platforms.
B.Facilitating age-appropriate content selection.
C.Certifying technical performance benchmarks.
D.Promoting cross-cultural entertainment exchanges.
22.Which content descriptor would most likely appear in a “Mature 17+” rated game
A.Cartoon-themed puzzle challenges. B.Simulated strategic resource management.
C.Extended sequences of graphic combat. D.Educational historical reenactments.
23.Critic Review: There’s nothing outwardly wrong with Arcaea. The presentation is beautiful, there are some foot-tapping
tracks in there, and there’s certainly a generous amount of content to enjoy. It’s just way too late to the party for something
that isn’t meaningfully different to its peers. The music’s enjoyable, but not stand-out, the gameplay is too-familiar and
while it does have a lot of pretty girls and that is a very nice thing, is not going to help it become a memorable, standout
example of a genre that the Switch is already over-subscribed with.
Which ESRB designation should temporarily be used
A.Generally suitable for ages 13 and up. B.Everyone 10+ with Minimal Suggestiveness.
C.Rating Pending — Likely Mature 17+. D.Teen with Simulated Gambling Elements.

Individuals are different in how they react to anxiety. Some bury their heads in the sand and ignore the mounting
sense of anxiety that seems to occupy the society. Others are in a watchful state and can’t get enough of the
up-to-the-minute news and social media feeds.
Martin Buber once stated that we related to three things around us: nature, our fellow men, and how you view the
world. When we are in a burdened (忧虑的) state, we tend to take no notice of any of these. When we become unburdened
from our depressed selves, we are able to discover the delights and wonders around and experience a deep sense of
thankfulness.
At a time when news reports are only a click away, people’s anxiety becomes extreme. Because of 24/7 media, the
international and the interpersonal have integrated in a way that we have never seen before. It seems that we’ve lost the
ability to maintain our inner peace—and that’s not just a matter of having opposing views about issues. It’s a matter of not
having the patience to involve in delightful communication and to hear each other. Changing the situation can’t be achieved

overnight. It’s not accidental, which must be approached with strength. It comes from the efforts to obtain understanding
and calm.
Our age of anxiety presents us with challenges. But out of adversity comes opportunity. Never can we maintain calm
and experience thankfulness at a time when we are burdened, worried, and anxious. Like anything else, relaxation and calm
take a bit of work. Attempt to limit your exposure to updates on the news and take a couple of moments to count your
blessings—including the people in your life and the fortune from which you’ve benefited. As you may realize, it is taking
things for granted that robs you of the fruits of your labor. Praying for goodness and planting seeds of gratitude may be our
only way out.
24.According to paragraph two, What might happen to a relaxed person
A.Keeping up with the latest news items. B.Seeing the beauty in the surroundings.
C.Paying no attention to the state of mind. D.Getting on well with nature and fellows.
25.What makes people anxiety-stricken
A.The large amount of information. B.The widespread false news.
C.The opposing views online. D.The lack of peaceful talks.
26.What is the last paragraph mainly about
A.Methods to overcome challenges and difficulties. B.Steps to robbing people of their fruits of labor.
C.Tips on limiting exposure to news updates. D.Ways to ease anxiety and value blessings.
27.Which might be a suitable title for the text
A.Count Blessings Instead of Challenges B.Watch Out for the Traps of Media
C.Be Thankful in an Age of Anxiety D.Take Nothing Online for Granted

It is universally believed that the destruction and disappearance of coral reefs (珊瑚礁), essential parts of the ocean
ecosystem that support great biodiversity, bring absolutely no benefit but only serious harm to the environment. In fact,
scientists have found that their loss and damage could mean oceans can absorb more CO2, slowing the buildup of this
greenhouse gas in the atmosphere.
“It is a beneficial effect if you only care about the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere,” says Lester Kwiatkowski
at Sorbonne University in Paris, France. But their reduction is harmful for biodiversity and leaves coasts exposed to rising
seas, he says.
How much the world will warm depends mainly on the level of CO2 in the atmosphere. So far, the land and oceans
have absorbed around half of the extra CO2 we have emitted. A popular belief is that corals remove CO2 from seawater as
they grow their structures. Actually, the process, called calcification (钙化), is a net source of CO2, adding more CO2 than it
removes. Observations also suggest rising seawater temperatures and oceans’ absorption of CO2 are causing coral reefs’

{#{QQABCYKx5wKQkIYACb6aAQUYCkqYsIGQJAgOgQCUKAwCgAFAFAA=}#}
bleaching (白化) and die-offs, so their release of CO2 is reduced.
Kwiatkowski and his team took published estimates of how corals will be affected by warming and absorbed CO2 in
oceans and used a computer model to work out how this might change ocean carbon absorption in various situations. They
conclude that the oceans could take up between 1% and 5% more carbon by 2100, and up to 13% more by 2300. But the
precondition of the study is that corals aren’t able to adapt to the new environment, says Chris jury at the University of
Hawaii at Manoa. If Kwiatkowski’s team is correct, the amount of the carbon budget, which will lead to a given level of
warming, is a little larger than currently thought.
“I think we would like our budgets to be as accurate as possible, even if we’re blowing through them,” says
Kwiatkowski.
28.How does the author introduce the topic
A.Listing environmental benefits. B.Describing coral reef ecosystems.
C.Explaining coral decline processes. D.Showing a contrast between beliefs.
29.What can be inferred about coral reefs from paragraph 2 and 3
A.Warmer oceans with CO2 help them grow.
B.Ocean CO2 levels can be reduced by them.
C.Climate has a very close link to coral reefs.
D.Coral reefs prevent the rising of sea levels.
30.Why does the research need to be improved
A.It predicts smaller carbon budgets. B.It ignores corals’ adaptation ability.
C.It uses unproven computer models. D.It concludes carbon uptake increase.
31.What can be a suitable title for the text
A.Reefs in Crisis: AWarming World’s Effect B.Oceans Discovery: An Unexpected Finding
C.Beyond the Bleaching: The Hidden Benefits D.Saving Coral Reefs: New Scientific Methods
D
Artificial intelligence can take down more than routine emails. It has now written tiny working genomes (基因组).
Researchers report in a paper posted to bioRxiv.org., two AI models designed the blueprints for 16 viruses capable of
attacking Escherichia coli (大肠杆菌) in lab dishes.
Given that AI models have already been used to design individual genes and proteins, Brian Hie, a computational
biologist at Stanford University and the Arc Institute in Palo Alto, Calif. turned to their own AI models, called Evo 1 and
Evo 2, to see if they could create genomes for bacteria-killing viruses. The models were trained on billions of pairs of the
genetic alphabet’s basic units, A, C, G and T’s, from phage genomes the way ChatGPT was trained on novels and Internet
posts. The team used a phage (噬菌体 ) called ΦX174—which in 1977 became the first DNA-based genome ever

{#{QQABCYKx5wKQkIYACb6aAQUYCkqYsIGQJAgOgQCUKAwCgAFAFAA=}#}
sequenced—as a guide to help the AI design a similar genome.
Evo 1 and Evo 2 generated roughly 300 potential phage genomes. Of those, 16 produced viable viruses. Some of the
phages even killed E. coli more quickly than ΦX174 did. And although ΦX174 couldn’t kill phage-resistant E. coli on its
own, mixture of AI-generated phages rapidly evolved to overcome the bacteria’s resistance to infection. The findings
suggest that AI could help researchers develop viruses to use in phage therapy, a potential option to treat microbial (微生物
的) infections.
Scientists are still debating whether viruses are alive or not. “While there’s a lot of work to go, using AI to design
living organisms is a step forward”, says Kimberly Davis, a microbiologist at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public
Health who wasn’t involved in the work. “It is very likely to be used in the microbial manufacturing processes such as
cultivating microbes that degrade plastic.”
32.What can be inferred about Evo 1 and Evo 2 in paragraph 2
A.They designed desirable genomes.
B.They created DNA-based genomes.
C.They guided ΦX174 to design phage genomes.
D.They shared the same training method as ChatGPT.
33.What does the underlined word “viable” in paragraph 3 mean
A.Workable. B.Infectious. C.Deadly D.inferior.
34.What does Kimberly Davis’s words suggest
A.Potential application of the findings. B.Need to involve more researches.
C.Methods of designing organisms. D.Possible direction for further study.
35.What can be a suitable title for the text
A.Escherichia coli: phage-resistant bacteria.
B.AI-generated genome: a tiny bacteria killer.
C.AI-designed phages: a DNA-based genome.
D.Evo 1 and Evo 2: phage genome generators.

I experienced years of loneliness as a child. 36 His friends teased him about babysitting his sister and his
interests were far different from mine. With no other kids of my age in the neighborhood, I had to spend hours by myself.
A bright spot for me turned out to be reading. My love of the written word began early as my mother read to me
every evening. 37 I started reading books on my own before age 5 and my mother took me to the public library
once a week to borrow several books. I quickly graduated from typical children’s books to ones with fewer pictures and

My mother also encouraged me to make what I wanted. I tried making toy cars with cardboard boxes and
constructing buildings from leftover cardboard and bits of wood my father gave me. When my mother saw my creations,
she told me how creative my designs were. 39 I learned a lot about how to extend the life of objects and transform
them into something new and useful. It was a trait(特点) others found helpful, and I soon had friends who wanted to make
things with me.
40 My parents made it a point for their two kids to spend time outside, no matter the weather or season. My
brother, of course, raced off to be with his friends, while I had plenty to do myself. There was making leaf houses in autumn,
ice skating in winter, and so much more. They’re all memories I treasure today.

I was in Philadelphia for a conference when I saw an ad in the hotel. A nearby theater was showing a documentary
about several local animal shelters that were helping to save abandoned dogs across the country. I love animals, and I felt an
urge to go to this fundraising (募捐) event. However, none of my co-workers would go with me, and I was worried about
walking on the street alone at night.
I ended up spending the evening in my hotel room, but as soon as I got back to my room I felt restless and bored. The

theater where the event was taking place was only about five blocks from the hotel, and the area around the hotel didn’t
seem particularly dangerous. So, I decided to go for it. I gathered up my wallet and room key and set off.
It was already getting dark and the streets were almost empty. I managed to find the street the theater was on, but
when I turned the corner, I stopped in shock. In front of the theater were a group of bikers — clustered around their heavy
motorcycles. They were all large men dressed in leather vests. One in particular, a mountain of a man with a thick beard and
a scar above his eyebrow, was laughing loudly at something, his voice rough and echoing in the quiet street.
I’ ve known lots of motorcycle enthusiasts and most are nice people. However, in this case, I was a woman all alone,
in a strange neighborhood, at night, and this rough-looking crowd — all wearing insignia (徽章) that indicated they were in
some sort of club — standing before me. Warning bells began to sound in my head, and my heart was pounding. Was I at
the right theater Had I misread the date of the event
A sign outside the theater told me that I was in the right place on the right evening. Nevertheless, I wondered if I
should rush back to my hotel instead of walking through that crowd of bikers. The thought of squeezing past them, of
drawing their attention, made my palms sweat. I finally decided that I would be safer inside the theater. Hopefully, the
bikers would have gone away by the time the film was over.
注意:
1.续写词数应为 150个左右;
I hurried into the theater, only to find there were even more bikers inside.
When the film began, I realized that the bikers were an animal rescue group.

When we become unburdened from our depressed selves, we are able to discover
the delights and wonders around and experience a deep sense of thankfulness.
At a time when news reports are only a click away, people’s anxiety becomes
extreme. Because of 24/7 media, the international and the interpersonal have integrated in a way that we have never
seen before.
故选 A项。
Attempt to limit your exposure to updates on the news and take a couple of
moments to count your blessings—including the people in your life and the fortune from which you’ve benefited.
As you may realize, it is taking things for granted that robs you of the fruits of your labor. Praying for goodness and
planting seeds of gratitude may be our only way out.(尝试限制自己接触新闻更新,花点时间感恩你所拥有的一
Never can we maintain calm and experience thankfulness at a
time when we are burdened, worried, and anxious. Like anything else, relaxation and calm take a bit of work.
Attempt to limit your exposure to updates on the news and take a couple of moments to count your
blessings—including the people in your life and the fortune from which you’ve benefited.(当我们负担沉重、忧心

(珊瑚礁), essential parts of the ocean ecosystem that support great biodiversity, bring absolutely no benefit but only
“In fact, scientists have found that their loss and damage could mean oceans can absorb more CO2, slowing the
buildup of this greenhouse gas in the atmosphere.(事实上,科学家发现,它们的损失和破坏可能意味着海洋可
How much the world will warm depends mainly on the level of CO2 in the
rising seawater temperatures and oceans’ absorption of CO2 are causing coral reefs’ bleaching (白化) and die-offs,
But the precondition of the study is that corals aren’t able to adapt to the
new environment, says Chris jury at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.(但是,夏威夷大学马诺阿分校的克里
the Bleaching: The Hidden Benefits(白化现象之外:那些未被察觉的益处)”概括文章主要内容,适合标题。故
选 C。

Of those, 16 produced viable viruses. Some of the phages even killed E. coli
more quickly than ΦX174 did.(其中,16个产生了 viable病毒。

故选 A。
While there’s a lot of work to go, using AI to design living organisms is a
step forward.(虽然还有很多工作要做,但使用人工智能来设计生物体是向前迈出的一步。)”和“It is very likely
to be used in the microbial manufacturing processes such as cultivating microbes that degrade plastic.(它很可能被

A Farm Trip Made Me Happy
On October 9th, I went on a farm trip to Apple Tree Farm with my classmates. It was a really happy and
meaningful day.
When we arrived at the farm, we were all excited. First, we picked strawberries. The strawberries were big
and red, looking very delicious. Then we planted tomatoes. It was interesting to learn how to plant them. After that,
we fed chickens. The chickens were cute, running around us. And some of us even rode horses. It was a bit scary at
first, but very exciting.
During the trip, I not only had fun but also learned a lot. I realized how hard farmers work. And I understood
the importance of preparing for the future. This farm trip made me happy and gave me a great experience. I hope I
can go there again.

I hurried into the theater, only to find there were even more bikers inside. The dim lights cast shadows over
their leather-clad figures, and I felt a knot tighten in my stomach. I hesitated for a moment, wanting to turn and run,
but the thought of the abandoned dogs in the documentary pulled me forward. I scanned the room for an empty seat,
my eyes darting away whenever a biker glanced in my direction. Finally, I spotted a small seat in the back row and
slipped into it, my hands still trembling. I kept my head down, trying to make myself as small as possible, counting
the minutes until the film started.
When the film began, I realized that the bikers were an animal rescue group. The documentary showed them
loading crates of shivering dogs onto their motorcycles, driving through rain and snow to transport the animals to
shelters. The man with the scar above his eyebrow was featured prominently — he was seen gently wrapping a
blanket around a scared puppy, his rough voice softening as he whispered comforting words. Cheers erupted from
the bikers in the theater when the scene ended, and I felt a wave of embarrassment wash over me for judging them
based on their appearance. By the time the film finished, I had joined them in clapping, grateful for the reminder
that kindness often comes in unexpected packages.
