Recently, scientists announced that they had created a “ superfood” for honeybees,
which could help UK bee populations. A superfood is a term used to describe a food that is
particularly rich in certain nutrients that living creatures need to live and grow.
Honeybees are very important to life on Earth. They help fruit and vegetables to grow
by carrying pollen (花粉) from one plant to another, allowing flowers to turn into fruit or
grains and then reproduce. However, over the last 30 years, UK bee populations have fallen
by about a third, mainly because of climate change and habitat loss, which affects their
food supply.
Scientists led by Professor Wright from Oxford University, wanted to try to create bee
food. Firstly, the team started by making a mixture filled with bee-friendly ingredients.
Then, preparing the food didn t need a lot of special laboratory equipment—simple kitchen
tools were used to blend the yeast (混合酵母). To make sure the bees only ate the
superfood diet and track the results, they were fed in enclosed glasshouses.
The results were promising. The honeybee groups that ate the superfood produced up
to 15 times more baby bees compared to groups that didn t get the supplement (补给) . It
also seemed to make the bees more likely to look after their offspring longer than the
, others making the bees healthier and therefore more likely to survive. Wright said this new
food is “a huge breakthrough” for the species.
Researchers will now carry out bigger trials to test the new superfood. If it works on a
larger scale, the supplement could be available to beekeepers and farmers in around two
years time.
28. What is a superfood
A. A food used to fight against diseases.
B. A food popular among living creatures.
C. A food rich in nutrients for living creatures.
D. A food created to save endangered species.
29. Why have the UK bee populations decreased in the past 30 years
A. Climate change and habitat loss.
B. Lack of professional beekeepers.
C. The competition for food against other insects.
D. The decrease in the number of researches on bees.

Hospitals in England are using artificial intelligence (AI) to help cut waiting times in
emergency departments this winter. This new technology is changing how healthcare
services plan and respond to patients demands.
The AI software predicts when A&E (急诊科) will be busiest by analyzing historical
data such as weather patterns, school holidays, and the spread of the diseases like flu. With
this information, hospitals can better arrange staffing (人员配备) and bed spaces to meet
the expected number of patients.
Ian Murray, the minister for digital government and data, explained that the A&E
faced unpredictable patient flow. “You can never be sure how many people will arrive, but
we have clues— like Saturday nights being busier than Tuesday nights, or winter being
busier than summer, except during heatwaves,” he said. The AI tool puts these clues into
context, showing seasonal trends (趋势) and daily busy periods, so hospitals can put
resources in the right place.
Murray added that the tool also helps free up hospital beds. By predicting patient
numbers, hospitals can get more people out of the hospital quicker, and free up those beds.
They can also send more specialist doctors and nurses to busy departments.
About 50 NHS (国家医疗服务体系) organisations in England are already using the
AI tool, and, according to Murray, they are “seeing great results” . Prof Julian Redhead, the
national clinical director at NHS England, said, “Early and efficient planning is key to
managing busy periods like winter, and new tech like AI tools has the potential to make a
real difference to the way we manage care for patients.” The prime minister said artificial
intelligence would “drive incredible change in our country” .

32. How does AI predict the busiest time of A&E
A. By collecting real- time patient data.
B. By interviewing medical staff and patients.
C. By monitoring the current spread of diseases.
D. By analyzing historical data like weather patterns.
33. What is the main function of the AI tool mentioned in Paragraph 3
A. Replacing specialist doctors and nurses in A&E.
B. Changing the unpredictable weather patterns in the UK.
C. Confirming that Tuesday nights are as busy as Saturday nights.
D. Studying clues and help hospitals arrange resources effectively.
34. What is Julian Redhead s attitude towards the AI tool
A. Doubtful. B. Positive. C. Negative. D. Indifferent.

I was in the seat, with a frown on my face. The elderly man next to me noticed my
worried look, asking with a smile, “Young man, are you alright ” I managed a faint smile
“ and replied, My grandmother is seriously ill, and I m rushing to see her.” The old man
“ patted my arm lightly, Don t worry. Everything will be okay. My wife has just recovered
from a serious illness... Stay calm!” I nodded. As we chatted, I accidentally learned that we
lived in the same neighborhood. His words and this coincidence (巧合) eased my anxiety a
little.
Shortly after our conversation, the train pulled out of the station. Then a conductor
interrupted us, “ Excuse me, sir, could you show your tickets ” I fumbled (摸索) for it in
my backpack and handed it over. He frowned after checking, “Sir, your ticket is for Los
Angeles, but this train heads to San Diego—opposite direction entirely.” His words
shocked me deeply. I froze on the spot and checked it repeatedly. And I confirmed the
terrible truth: I had boarded the wrong train.
A wave of despair swept over me. How could I have been so careless Just then, the
conductor suggested that I buy a transfer ticket. But when I was about to take out my
phone to buy a ticket, I couldn t find it anywhere. I suddenly realized that I had lost my
phone in my hurry. Even worse, I had no cash with me either.

Online Safety
In the digital era, we are increasingly connected to the Internet, but online risks
are also growing. Online safety is essential for protecting our personal privacy and
avoiding financial losses caused by cyber threats like information leaks and virus
attacks.
To stay safe online, here are some practical tips. First, set strong and unique
passwords with a mix of letters, numbers and symbols for different accounts, and
never share them with others. Second, install reliable antivirus software and update it
regularly to guard against virus attacks. Third, avoid clicking on suspicious links or
downloading files from unknown websites. Besides, never connect to unencrypted
public Wi-Fi when making online payments.

At the very moment, the elderly man noticed my embarrassment and
anxiety.Without hesitation, he offered to lend me some cash, pressing a few bills into
my hand. “Take this, young man. It’ll help with the transfer,” he said gently. Realizing
the time was tight, I accepted the money with deep gratitude and quickly took down
his phone number. “I’ll definitely return it and thank you,” I promised earnestly. With
his timely help, I successfully bought a transfer ticket just before the train departed at
the next stop and finally arrived in Los Angeles safely.
A week later, I came back and contacted the elderly man. I invited him to a
coffee shop, determined to return the money and express my gratitude. When we met,
I handed him the cash he had lent me, along with a small gift. “Thank you so much
for your kindness that day,” I said. “You saved my trip to see my grandmother.” The

hot climb.

Text 2
W: I’d like to have a poetry reading during the service.Any ideas
M: Just one. These I Can Promise by Mark Twain. Without a doubt! It’s romantic and real,
just like how our love story is. (2)
W: It’s beautiful. But it will make people cry!
Text 3
M: I can’t believe this is the last time I’ll visit your office, Mom.
W: I know. But being a lawyer was always my parents’ dream, not mine. And now that your
university is paid for, I can finally focus on my painting. (3) It’s challenging but so
exciting!
Text 4
M: I worked up the courage and told Miss Carter I broke the camera. She’s not going to punish me.
I just need to get it fixed.
W: Don’t worry, my dad is good at fixing equipment. I’ll ask for his help. (4)
Text 5
W:Will today’s visit be useful for your report
M: Definitely! So far, I’ve mainly focused on facts like rising sea temperatures and pollution.
But seeing all those dead fish in the water really helped me understand what’s at risk if
we don’t act now to protect our seas. (5)
Text 6
W: Excuse me. Do you mind if I sit beside you (7)
M: Please do! Sorry, I’m taking up the whole seat with my bags and pencil boxes!
W: Oh, don’t worry. I’m here to learn from the master, too! This is my fourth visit to the show.
Rembrandt’s work is so inspiring. (6)
M: Indeed! His use of natural light… I may never quite get it, but I’ll keep trying!
W: That’s so cool. May I see some of your work
M: Of course, here you are.
W:Wow! I love your studies of the maps on the wall. They’re so detailed!
M: Thanks.
Text 7
M: Are you still looking for volunteer work (8)
W: Yes. Sadly, it seems they’ve got everyone they need at the animal center right now. (8) I
guess I could try the old people’s home, but I don’t have enough experience.
M: Well, I noticed something in the local paper. The library’s looking for people to help
parentless kids learn to read and write in English. (9)
W: Oh, that sounds perfect!
M: I thought so. You’re so patient and great with words.
W: Thanks! What do I have to do to volunteer
M:Hang on…There was a number to call in the article. Let me find it. (10)
W: Thank you!
Text 8
W: I love shopping for my food here. But have you ever thought about stopping the use of
plastic bags There’s such a plastic pollution problem in our community. (11)
M: You’re not the first customer to mention that. (11) And yes, we’re making the change very

soon.
W: That’s great! I know paper bags are more expensive… (12)
M: They are. But we simply charge 50 cents for each one, as the supermarkets do. (11) (12)
The thing is, they’re not always as green as people think.
W: Oh I know paper bags are easier to reuse, and they don’t last forever like plastic.(13)
M: Right. But paper bags require much more energy and water to make.
W: I didn’t know that!
M: Yes. Currently, we’ve partnered with a popular local artist to design some reusable cloth bags.
Customers will get 5% off their goods if they bring one when they shop.
W: Oh, I’d certainly be interested in that offer!
Text 9 (第 17题为总结题)
M: How much sleep do you get every night (14) Your dark under-eye circles are really
noticeable.
W: I think I get about as much as the average person. And I don’t even have a busy social
calendar.
M:Well, the average person needs about seven hours of sleep per night. (14)
W: Really Well, I’m two hours short of that every night. (14)
M:All right. Sleep is one of the most important things we can do for ourselves. It helps us perform
better at work and school. Many studies have shown that people who get at least eight
hours of sleep every night are less likely to catch colds and other common illnesses. (15)
W:Well, the main reason is that I have a young kid. He goes to bed late and wakes up rather early.
And after everyone goes to bed at night, I still have lots of work left to finish.
M:Why not try to get your work done during the day (16) If you continue to stay up late like
this, it will harm your health eventually.
W: You’re right, doctor. I’ll make some changes.
Text 10 (第 20题为推断题)
Tonight, we recognize someone whose bravery has given a voice to those who would
otherwise go unheard. Journalism is not just about reporting facts — it is about telling truths, even
when they are uncomfortable.
Sally Smith has spent years working in some of the most dangerous regions in the world.
(18) (19) While many of us read headlines, she has been on the ground. Her work has informed
international aid efforts and held those in power accountable.
Reporting in these conditions is not easy. Sally has worked under extreme pressure and has
seen the pain up close. However, she has never stopped. She believes that truth is more
powerful than fear, (19) that the world must not turn away, and that even in challenging places,
voices must be heard.
Change doesn’t occur all of a sudden. Thanks to journalists like Sally Smith, we now
understand that silence is never an option.
It is my great honor to present the award to Sally Smith. Her courage and hard work inspire
us all.
