As a seven-year-old, I wrote a letter to the President of Coca - Cola, begging for his help. Having just returned from a ski trip to Suratam Mountain, Vermont, I found myself unable to locate a specific product. At a store on the mountain, my mom bought Coke in nice - looking 240ml glass bottles. I saved my empty container and after searching all day when I got home, I realized that my local grocery store did not have these bottles.
That night at dinner, after telling my parents my discovery, they suggested that I get some information about the bottles. My mom was a recruiter (招聘专员) at the time, her job involving many research skills, and she provided me with a telephone number for Coca - Cola. I called the following day and got a mailing address for the President, and wrote him a letter.
I suppose not too many seven - year - olds voice their concerns to this man, as I quickly received a response. However, the letter was an apology. “Unfortunately,” it read, “we are unable to provide this product in your region.” It began to explain, in very simple terms, that it was not cost effective for Coca - Cola to sell the product in my living area. His only recourse was to offer me coupons (优惠券) for other Coca - Cola products.
Yet that polite refusal became my first lesson in supply chain economics (经济). My interest in the Coca - Cola company grew. By sixth grade, while my classmates were trading baseball cards, I was already tracking Coca - Cola's business performance (表现) online.
Today, as I analyze consumer behavior for a Fortune 500 company, I often think about how my career began with that childhood inquiry (探究). Most importantly, I remember how my parents turned a simple product search into a teachable moment about business realities. Their decision taught me that no question is too small when finding understanding — a principle (准则) that still guides my market research today.
24. Why did the young author write the letter
A. To ask for some coupons. B. To share a new product idea.
C. To request an unavailable product. D. To complain about product quality.
25. What can we infer about the author's mother from Paragraph 2
A. She had worked for Coca - Cola before.
B. She actively supported her child's curiosity.
C. She thought her child's demand was impossible.
D. She found the address of Coca - Cola's President.
26. What does the underlined word "recourse" in Paragraph 3 mean
A. Apology. B. Reward. C. Alternative. D. Refusal.
27. What does the author intend to show through the text
A. Focusing on profitable products is key to business.
B. Companies should value every consumer's need.
C. Hands - on exploration cost lots of money and energy.
D. Small inquiries can lead to meaningful discoveries.

English is full of funny expressions that don't always make sense. Idioms are phrases and sentences that do not mean exactly what they say. Even if you know the meaning of each word, you may not understand the idiom because you don't understand the culture behind it. Here are some English idioms based on animals.
When children jump around and act silly, their parents may tell them to stop "monkeying around". To "monkey around" means to do things that are not useful or serious, or to simply waste time.
Many American families have and love pet dogs. But for some unknown reason, Americans use "dog" in a phrase that means to feel unwell. If you are "as sick as a dog", you're really, really sick.
Sometimes you may also hear cats mentioned in conversations, "I told you to keep that secret, but you have just 'let the cat out of the bag' !" You probably guessed it — that idiom means to reveal a secret or tell facts that were previously unknown.
Dogs and cats don't always get along, but they appear side by side in a commonly used idiom. When it rains heavily, people might say it's "raining cats and dogs".
Heavy rain often ruins people's plans for outdoor activities. But on a lovely day, you can have a picnic. If a swarm (一群) of tiny bugs love your food and start to hover (盘旋) around you, it would be really annoying (令人烦躁的). That experience perfectly explains why people often tell someone who keeps bothering them to "stop bugging me".
Idioms are very common in both spoken and written English. If you want to have a better understanding of English, you have to learn idioms.
28. According to Paragraph 1, what can you learn about idioms
A. Expressions that always make sense. B. Expressions which are based on animals.
C. Expressions which are easy to understand. D. Expressions that have rich cultural background.
29. What can "monkeying around" be used to describe
A. Children jump around and waste time.
B. Children do something useful and serious.
C. Children play with monkeys with their parents.
D. Children spend time playing with their family pets.
30. What can be learned from the text
A. Dogs and cats always get along nicely.
B. Bugs can be used to show your annoyance.
C. Americans believe cats can give away secrets.
D. The idiom "as sick as a dog" can describe a healthy man.
31. How does the text mainly develop
A. By sharing experiences. B. By making comparisons. C. By giving examples. D. By listing figures.
D
The concept of jetpacks (喷气背包) has long had us daydreaming of flying around in the air. Now, a company called CudaJet has taken these visions and placed them elsewhere — in the ocean. The UK - based company has created what they claim to be the world's first underwater jetpack.
Invented by Archie O'Brien and produced in England, the CudaJet offers speeds of up to 10 feet per second — faster than any swimmer out there — and provides about 90 minutes of self - powered underwater adventures (冒险). Having a patented system, the jetpack is operated by a handheld controller, with the user's body providing the direction while the device generates forward force. The CudaJet has a "quick attach" technology that fits most sizes and can be put on and set in a matter of seconds.
It looks like a backpack and even allows users to roll sideways like a dolphin in the ocean. Its carbon fiber (碳纤维) structure keeps it lightweight while providing the perfect balance between firm and flexible (柔韧的). But, to keep yourself safe, you must wear a diving mask that covers your nose to prevent any injury, and you must safely equalize (补偿) your ears —this means leveling the air pressure between your middle ear and the surrounding environment.
The jetpack has been tested at depths of up to 131 feet; however, out of safety, the CudaJet has a 10 - foot limit to prevent inexperienced users from going too deep, too quickly. If this happens, the power will cut out, with the jetpack bringing the user to the surface. The CudaJet also stops the moment the wearer lets go of the handheld controller and doesn't go any further, aided by the drag of water.
The biggest weakness of the CudaJet is that it is meant to be used in assisted free diving only. Besides, long hair can get caught in the equipment, so it must be pulled back tightly;
you can only charge with dry connections in a dry environment; and you mustn't store it when it's fully charged.
32. What is a key feature of the CudaJet's design for user safety
A. It automatically adjusts speed based on the water pressure.
B. It stops working if the user loosens the handheld controller.
C. It requires professional diving licenses for all users.
D. It allows unlimited depth for experienced adventurers.
33. What is the author's overall attitude towards the CudaJet underwater jetpack
A. Undecided. B. Positive. C. Objective. D. Doubtful.
34. What can be inferred about the CudaJet from the passage
A. It is intended mainly for professional deep - sea exploration.
B. Its battery life is the longest among similar underwater devices.
C. It can be used in various underwater sports without limits.
D. Its designers care for the safety and ease of use for beginners.
35. What is the main purpose of the passage
A. To introduce an underwater device with its functions and limits.
B. To explain the technical principles of underwater jetpacks.
C. To sell a new underwater product with special offers.
D. To ask for the importance of ocean environment technology.

It took a day's drive, but distance was beside the point, I always enjoyed long journeys in my father's car with my family. However, things went different that time. We were moving to a new town, not for any tourist destination (目的地), but to settle down, for my father had a new job there. My mother, sitting on the passenger seat in the front, was talking with my father. She looked excited for the coming new life. But I was down, feeling nervous about
starting a new school life. Entering a new school meant adapting to a completely different environment and meeting new classmates and teachers, which I was not good at.
On my first day at the new school, I felt lost and out of place. The students already knew each other well, and they chatted happily during breaks. I missed my old friends very much and wished I could go back to my old school. Feeling lonely, I often spent time alone during breaks and after classes, reading books in the library or drawing pictures in the art room. I missed the good days I had with my old friends and longed for that sense of belonging (归属感).
As the days went by, I still found it hard to fit in. I was shy and found it difficult to have a talk with my classmates. Some of the kids in my class noticed my feeling of worry and tried to be friendly, but I couldn't shake off the feeling of being an outsider. I only had words with my deskmate, Alex, when necessary. Things took a turn for the worse when I knocked off Alex's water bottle by accident, although I picked up the bottle immediately and said sorry to him. He got mad at me and seemed not to forgive (原谅)me. Soon I found we were avoiding each other.
注意:1. 续写词数应为 150 左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Para 1:However, I was asked to pair up with Alex to design a poster.
Para 2:Alex proudly introduced that the beautiful picture was drawn by me.

三、作答示例
However, I was asked to pair up with Alex to design a poster. Unwillingly, we started working together. I was worried that working with Alex would be very difficult because of our past problems. But surprisingly, as we worked, we found that we shared many common inter-ests. We put a lot of efforts into the drawings and texts, and finally we completed a quite out-standing poster. Alex seemed to forgive me. He liked how hard I worked and began to care about my feelings. The teacher highly praised our work and our classmates were amazed at the picture on the poster.
Alex proudly introduced that the beautiful picture was drawn by me. I smiled shyly but happily as my classmates said nice things about me and gave me a thumbs - up. Slowly but surely, I started feeling more at ease in my new school. I made new friends, including Alex, and began to join in class and after - school activities. By the end of the school year, I had fully adapted to the new environment. Moving to a new town was not only difficult, but it also opened up a world of opportunities and new experiences for me.
