(Text 10)
Welcome to Student Life! Today we’re going to talk about setting
up a project of student jobs in your school.Having students do different
jobs around the school is a great way to prepare them for life in the real
world. It encourages them to be responsible and also helps them learn new
tasks and gain experience.
However, it’s important to get students excited about the project,
so the first thing you should do is let students know this project.Get the
headmaster to make an announcement explaining the project.OK?
Then decide on the jobs you want and write out the descriptions of the
skills and responsibilities needed for each position. Some typical jobs are
Classroom Assistants, Recycling Officers and Computer
Assistants.Next, ask students to apply for the jobs.Students should be
encouraged to write letters of application for the job they are interested
in.This is a great way to practice letter writing skills. And don’t forget
you should make sure students are guided by a teacher.A committee then
reviews all the applications and gives jobs to the most suitable
applicants. Finally, it’s important to get opinions from students about
the project, and to find out which jobs are successful and which don’t
go well.

(2025·新蔡一中高一上期末) When I saw the documentary
ADHD (多动症): Not Just for Kids, I was in tears after 20
minutes — the stories being told sounded much like my own.I’m in my
40s, I had read everything there was in health and science and I had no
idea that the symptoms (症状) I had experienced all of my life were
anything but normal. How had I missed this? I called the doctor to get
assessed.I must have sounded desperate on the phone; they took me right
away.
Later, I researched everything I could about ADHD. It became clear
that my misunderstanding and ignorance about the disorder had misled
me.A million thoughts, a million regrets.Finally, I told myself I
couldn’t change the past, but I could share the fact that ADHD can look
much different from the super active child practicing back flips (后空
翻) off of a chair.
As for me, things went another way around: I was a young girl,
quietly sitting at my school desk, pretending to listen to the
teacher.Meanwhile, I was watching and drawing the bird that landed in
the tree outside. And I was rereading entire chapters of my textbooks and
taking extensive notes because I couldn’t remember what I had just read
because I was thinking of the bird I had seen earlier.
Later in life, I’d sit at the kitchen table, staring out the
window. There’s no telling how long it will take.Thoughts rush in from
yesterday, today and tomorrow.I need to make dinner, take the dog for
a walk, the kids will be home soon ...But I can’t move.I know that I
should, but I can’t.Afterward, I berate myself, unable to understand
why I didn’t get up, why I wasted so much precious time, so much of
my life doing nothing, it seems.
Since being treated, I have an inner calmness that is new to
me.Medication doesn’t organize my day; it doesn’t remind me to pick
up the kids or walk the dog. However, it allows me to move when I’ve
been staring out the window for too long.

When I tell people I’m learning Chinese and Italian, they often
look surprised. It annoys me that I can’t easily answer their unspoken
questions:“Why do you learn languages you have no personal
connection to? Why do you spend hours studying languages spoken by
people far away?”
In my freshman year, I started Italian on a whim (一时兴
起).Now, I’m preparing to study at an Italian university. When I
worry about not being ready, I watch old Italian movies.I understand
little of the dialogue, but the parts I catch mean a lot to me.Like in the
film Umberto D. , where a main character — an old man, says,
“Everyone takes advantage of the ignorant (无知的).” These small
moments of understanding hit me hard.
As a boy, growing up with Filipino and American parents in Hong
Kong, I’m used to language barriers (障碍).Cantonese, the
language of my home, is still hard for me.But small moments of
connection through languages feel special. As Nelson Mandela, the
former president of South Africa, said,“If you talk to a man in a
language he understands, that goes to his head.If you talk to him in his
mother tongue, that goes to his heart.”
The more I think about “why” learn languages, the more I realise
it’s about “how”.Learning a language makes it easy for you to make
mistakes and feel embarrassed.Sometimes, this makes me want to stick
with English. But then I watch an Italian film and hear some new words
and conversations that wouldn’t be possible without my efforts.I
wouldn’t feel the connection without falling many times.I’ve learned
that however fluent you may think you are, there is no finish line in
learning a language. And that’s what keeps me pushing forward in my
language journey.

Geda Qawla, who is 75, is having trouble remembering words
from his native Ongota language. He’s one of only five people who can
still speak it.As he gets older, he finds it harder to think of the names of
things like trees and birds.“I can feel it leaving me.The others try to help
me remember but they are the same, they are also forgetting and there’s
no one left to teach us,” he said.Geda was afraid that as the remaining
speakers age and pass away, the language may disappear with them.
This is just one example of a bigger problem happening all over the
world.Languages are disappearing fast, with one dying every two
weeks. If things don’t change, by the end of this century, half of the
7,000 languages we have now might be gone. The ones in the most
danger are those that aren’t written down and those spoken by very few
people.
The main reasons for this are technology and the way the world is
becoming more connected.People who speak smaller languages are being
pushed to stop using them and start speaking bigger languages.More
people moving to new places also contributes to this, as they leave their
native languages behind and learn new ones.
However, some languages that were almost gone have been
saved. This happened through long-term efforts to bring them back to
life. These efforts included teaching them in schools, using them in the
media, and even putting them on road signs. But for most languages,
like Ongota, there isn’t enough money or support to do this.
At Arba Minch University, some researchers are trying to save the
Ongota language by making a dictionary. Some young Ongota people who
have had an education also want to keep their language alive. For
Sav , an Italian expert who studies people and their cultures, losing
Ongota would be very sad.“When a language disappears,” he says,
“you lose a special way of seeing the world that can’t be replaced.”

Dear Jack,
I know from your e-mail that you are learning Chinese this semester
and ask me for some advice. Here are my suggestions.
First, you should listen carefully to your teachers in class and
practice as often as possible after class.Second, I’d like to recommend
you to read some Chinese story books, which help you enlarge your
vocabulary and understand the different meanings of the words.Third, I
think it is a good idea to communicate with Chinese native speakers.Last

I hope my advice will be helpful.

第二节(满分25分)
  阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构
成一篇完整的短文。
When I was in middle school, my family moved to Seattle, where
my parents started their new business — a small grocery store downstairs
my house. As a girl of shy and reserved nature, I had to take a fresh start
to fit into the sophisticated city life.
One sunny day, my school announced an exciting event, a talent
show for the local food bank.Students were encouraged to showcase their
unique talents in front of the public in the city hall on National Day.A
buzz of excitement fed the school as everyone began preparing for the big
day.Deep down, I felt a spark of curiosity and a desire to
participate.However, my self-doubt held me back,“I don’t have any
special skills to share.”
Days turned into weeks, and the talent show drew closer.I
couldn’t shake the upsetting feeling until one day, Emma, one of the
most popular girls in my class, came to me while I was helping in the
grocery store after class.“How about singing together in the talent
show?” She grinned,“I heard you singing a tune, along the way
back home.I can’t help following you here.” Gosh, I couldn’t
believe my ears.Emma, with personality and popularity, acknowledged
my little talent.Since Emma had the world’s prettiest voice, I felt like
being favoured by fortune.
“You two? The talent show for the food bank?” My mum bent
towards us and her face lit up.“A big occasion.” Then a light bulb
seemed to go in her head.“Why not practise right now upstairs? I bet
you’ll be a perfect match.” Winking at us, she seemed to know we
were thinking alike.
Emma and I embarked on rehearsing almost every single day after
school. We brainstormed, exchanged ideas and rehearsed the scene. As
the days rolled by, I was feeling pretty good about our act.But the day
before the performance, Emma called that she had an acute stomachache
and was not in any shape to perform.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式作答。
I was completely knocked out by the news.

  Finally came the big moment.

参考范文:
I was completely knocked out by the news. What should I do?
Having prepared for such a long time, I didn’t think of that coming
up.Feeling at a loss, I was brainstorming as hard as I could to think of a
solution, when a gentle touch on my back brought me back to reality. It
was my mum, who looked at me with care and concern.“You have
prepared for it enough. You can do it by yourself.” She said after my
stumbled explanation.I looked back at her eyes, and a sense of
confidence and warmness swelled up in my heart.Yes, I could do it
myself.
Finally came the big moment.Looking around the audience, I
stepped onto the stage, with butterflies in my stomach. My voice
trembled at first, but with the melodies flew around, the nervousness
was gone with the wind.Emotions filled in my song, I performed as
naturally as I spoke every day.I saw my mum, who was looking at me
with reassurance and care.It turned out to be a good performance, which
helped me conquer my fears and turned me into a new person.
