As Ginni Bazlinton reached Antarctica, she found herself greeted by a group of little Gentoo penguins
longing to say hello. These gentle, lovely gatekeepers welcomed her and kick-started what was to be a trip
Ginni would never forget.
Ever since her childhood, Ginni, now 71, has had a deep love for travel. Throughout her career as a
professional dancer, she toured in the UK, but always longed to explore further. When she retired from
dancing and her sons eventually flew the nest, she decided it was time to take the plunge.
After taking a degree at Chichester University in Related Arts, Ginni began to travel the world,
eventually getting work teaching English in Chile. And it was in Chile that she discovered she could get
last-minute cheap deals on ships going to Antarctica from the islands off Tierra del Fuego, the southernmost
tip of the South American mainland. “I just decided I wanted to go, ” she says. “I had no idea about what I’d
find there and I wasn’t nervous. I just wanted to do it. And I wanted to do it alone as I always prefer it that
way. ”
In March 2008, Ginni boarded a ship with 48 passengers she’d never met before, to begin the journey
towards Antarctica. “From seeing the wildlife to witnessing sunrises, the whole experience was amazing.
Antarctica left an impression on me that no other place has,” Ginni says. “I remember the first time I saw a
humpback whale; it just rose out of the water like some prehistoric creature and I thought it was smiling at us.
You could still hear the operatic sounds it was making underwater.”
The realization that this is a precious land, to be respected by humans, was one of the biggest things that
hit home to Ginni.
24. Which of the following best explains “take the plunge” in paragraph 2
A. Bring back lost memories. B. Try challenging things.
C. Take a degree. D. Stick to a promise.
25. What made Ginni decide on the trip to Antarctica
A. Lovely penguins. B. Beautiful scenery.
C. A discount fare. D. A friend’s invitation.
26. What does Ginni think about Antarctica after the journey
A. It could be a home for her. B. It should be well preserved.
C. It needs to be fully introduced. D. It should be easily accessible.
27. What is the text mainly about
A. An unforgettable travel experience. B. Meeting animals in Antarctica.
C. Sailing around the world. D. A childhood dream.

Eat more when you are stressed You’re not alone. More than a third of the participants in a survey said
they change their diets during stressful times.
Many of us are quick to turn to either sugary foods or highly refined carbohydrates (碳水化合物) when
the stress hits. “There can be a bit of a vicious cycle,” says David Ludwig, a professor at Harvard University.
“When we feel stressed, we seek foods that are going to relieve us immediately, but often those foods lead to
surges and crashes in hormones and blood sugar that increase our new stresses”.
So, if eating lots of refined carbohydrates and sugar may worsen our responses to stress, are there other
types of food that make us more resilient Researcher Joe Hibbeln believes the answer is yes. He has spent
the past two decades researching connections between the omega-3 fatty acids (omega-3s) found in fish and
emotional health. He also points to clinical trials that have found that omega-3s may help control depressive
symptoms. And a study of schoolchildren in England linked omega-3s to more pro-social behavior.
Drew Ramsey, a psychiatrist (精神病学家) at Columbia University, says a nutrient-rich diet is best for
beating stress. He points to his favorite breakfast: scrambled eggs mixed with the greens and topped with
pumpkin seeds. With this meal, you are covering all your bases, Ramsey says. The eggs are a good source of
B vitamins and protein, which can be more satisfactory than a carbohydrates-based breakfast. The greens are
incredibly nutrient-dense, and are a good source of vitamin A, vitamin K and potassium. And the pumpkin
seeds are a good source of magnesium, which is thought to play a role in fighting off anxiety — and zinc,
which may help boost the immune system.
The bottom line The foods we choose can’t magic away stress. But Ramsey says he believes “There is
a very, very strong connection between food and mood”.
28. What does David Ludwig say about the foods we seek when stressed
A. They are full of nutrients.
B. They help get rid of stress.
C. They have long-term benefits.
D. They provide instant comfort.
29. What does Joe Hibbeln’s research focus on
A. The working principle of omega-3s.
B. Depressive behaviors of schoolchildren.
C. The links between omega-3s and emotional health.
D. The reasons why refined foods contribute to anxiety.
30. Why does Ramsey introduce his favourite breakfast
A. To illustrate his ways of beating hunger.
B. To show the emotional support from a diet.
C. To attach importance to all kinds of vitamins.
D. To give examples of making delicious breakfast.
31. Which of the following might be a suitable title for the text
A. More Food, More Comfort.

B. Healthier Diet, Better Mood.

第二节(共 5小题;每小题 2.5分,满分 12.5分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
What began as a simple backyard game in 1965 has exploded into a global phenomenon. 32 Its
growth is so rapid that enthusiastic “picklers” are actively trying to get it included in the 2028 Olympic
Games. But what exactly is this sport
Pickleball is played on a badminton-sized court with a slightly lowered tennis net, using square paddles
and a small plastic ball that’s similar in size to a tennis ball, but much lighter. 33 If your opponent
fails to return the ball over the net, either from the serve or in a rally (对打), you get the point. Matches can
be played in doubles or singles, and games are played to 11 points.
Part of the appeal is that you don’t have to be super athletic to pick it up. 34 You can vary
the intensity — going all out or taking a slower pace. As a low-impact workout, it is also easy on the joints
(关节), making it a lifelong sport that attracts everyone. Fans range from kids to seniors.
35 You don’t need to join a league or have a pickleball court to get in on the action. It can be
played in non-traditional spaces like gymnasiums and parking lots. Any smooth surface will work, as long as
you have a net, a ball and a paddle.
As you rally back and forth on the court, you’re not just working on your skills but also sharing laughs
and creating memories. You meet players of varying ages and backgrounds, which enriches conversations
and broadens perspectives. Joining local leagues or casual matches creates opportunities to build friendships
and gain support networks centered around shared passion. 36
The growing popularity of pickleball reflects its universal appeal, uniting people through a common
love of play. So grab a paddle and join this exciting global movement.
A. This accessibility extends to where you can play.
B. The aim is to hit the ball over the net to the other side.
C. Pickleball suits serious athletes and weekend players alike.
D. Experienced players use spin shots to gain an advantage during a game.
E. The equipment required is specialized but widely available in sports stores.
F. By 2026, pickleball is expected to be played by over 36 million people across the globe.
G. No wonder the sport is becoming a favorite for those seeking greater social engagement.

When I arrived in China to teach law, I didn’t expect what tea would come to mean. In fact, some of the
most 52 (memory) moments of my time in China happened with a teacup in hand.
In Chengdu, Sichuan province, I enjoyed green tea brewed with exceptionally tender young buds. I

the hostess to lead me 54 the full ceremony. She explained every step with 55 (patient).
When it was my turn 56 (take) over, my hands felt awkward — I handled things poorly and made
a little mess. Yet no one stepped in to correct me. The point wasn’t mastery. It was being present, 57

58 I wandered into a tiny studio. The owners invited me to sit for tea. For over an hour, we talked not

about prices, but about life, family and dreams. It reminded me that in China tea is 59 unique
language of friendship.
In all these moments, I saw something I rarely encounter in my home country — a drink 60

energize or calm. In China, it is ceremonial. Even when 61 (share) casually between friends, it

第四部分 任务型阅读(共两节,满分 20分)
阅读下面短文,并按要求完成相应任务。
Mary was the art teacher for primary school students. On this particular day, she was guiding them
through the process of drawing a scenic landscape. Akila yawned, clearly disinterested — drawing wasn’t
her thing. A small group of students gathered around Tina, laughing at her unusual drawing: a sun wearing
sunglasses and trees topped with ice cream cones.
Mary instructed Tina firmly but with unease, “Draw it the way I showed you.” As the lesson continued,
Mary started to feel doubtful. Had the joy of creativity been ruined by the pressure to be right She scanned
the room, observing her students’ faces — some concentrated, others uncertain. Akila’s disinterest was
clear and Tina’s imaginative drawing had been met with ridicule (嘲笑) instead of praise.
After class, Mary sat down with Tina, her tone softening, “Why did you draw the sun with sunglasses
and the trees with ice creams ” she asked gently.
Tina’s eyes sparkled with a touch of rebellion (叛逆), “I love ice cream, and I thought the sun would
look cool with sunglasses. Why do we always have to draw like everyone else ”
第 8 页 共 10 页
Mary paused, her thoughts racing. Tina’s drawings weren’t just curious — they were a window into a
world where imagination ruled, where rules could be bent into delightful chaos. “Am I ruining that very
creativity ” Mary thought.
The next morning, Mary walked into the classroom with a renewed sense of purpose. She placed a large
sheet of paper in front of the class and announced a new project: they would create a collective (集体的)
artwork titled “Our Dream World” with no rules. They were free to use colors, shapes, and patterns however
they wished.
At first, the students hesitated, unsure of this newfound freedom. Akila leaned back, skeptical (怀疑的)
of what seemed like another pointless exercise. But Tina, her creativity no longer restricted (限制), eagerly
grabbed her crayons and began to draw freely. Then, Maya joined in. And then Michael... As the students
were busy working, Mary observed them with curiosity.

W: Hey, Gary, please have a seat. So tell me, what seems to be the problem
M: Thanks, doctor. I've got a really bad toothache. I can't eat anything, and look, my face is all red. And
my throat hurts a bit too.
W: Well, let's have a look. Open wide. It's your wisdom teeth. They need to be pulled. But first I'm
going to order an X-ray.
M: Is it painful
W: No, not at all. Just lie down and relax.

M: May, come here. It's amazing. Is this the hall of ancient China
W: Yes. Look at these historical relics here. Splendid But it is odd.
M: I wonder how old these things are. Thousands of years
W: One thing is for sure—— they all come from a very ancient time.
M: Hey, look at that vase. I've seen it on TV.
W: It was made 4,000 years ago. It's priceless!
M: I'm so glad I came with you on this museum tour.
W: It took me quite a lot of effort to persuade you into coming with me. But it's worth it.
M: Yes, absolutely. I think I' ll come to the museum more often. It's like taking a trip back in time.
W: I'm glad you feel that way. There's so much we can learn from these relics. They tell us stories of
people who lived long before us.

W: Are you still playing computer games You were playing when I went to the office this morning!
You have been playing all day.
M: But look at the scores I have earned. It has broken my previous record.

M: Alright. I'm coming.
W: My friends are coming over for the party. But look at this messy house. We need to tidy up now.
Here's a list of chores we need to get done. I' ll do the dishes and get all the groceries for tonight. You
can sweep the floors. Oh, the furniture also needs to be done.
M: You know what I have to pick something up at the mall, so why don't you clean the floors and the
furniture I' ll go to the supermarket and get all the groceries.
W: Are you sure You hate driving.
M: Never mind. I will bike there.

M: Jean, I'm heading to London next month.
W: Oh, my home city. How exciting!
M: I was hoping for some advice! I've already booked tickets for the Tower of London and the London
Eye.
W: A boat trip down the Thames can be more interesting, particularly if you get a good tour guide.
M: Okay! I' ll try it. My air ticket costs enough! Any cheap or free activities you'd recommend
W: Plenty! I suggest Buckingham Palace, where you can watch the changing of the guard. Plus,
Borough Market is the place to go if you' re hungry. If you want a taste of London's street culture, then
go to the Southbank Skatepark. It's near the Thames, so you can visit it right off the boat.
M: Great! I'm interested in street culture.
W: Many of the big museums are free to visit. Personally, I love the National Portrait Gallery.
M: Does it have something special
W: Each piece there carries specific historical backgrounds, character stories, and cultural meanings. It
provides an important window and rich resources for people to understand British history and culture.

W: Have you ever heard of a man named Buckminster Fuller He was not just a brilliant scientist and
inventor, but also an architect whose ideas ahead of his time still inspire us today. What made
Buckminster truly well-known was his deep concern for human survival. Thus, he claimed that to solve
humans' major problems, we have to anticipate what will become problems as resources reduce.
He was especially passionate about developing more efficient housing. His goal was to create a
new way of constructing buildings that could provide more livable space while using far fewer
materials, energy, and resources. One solution he came up with in the late 1940s was a structure shaped
like a piece of the globe, which amazed the world and brought him international reputation.
That's it for today's Daily Takeaway. Tomorrow we' ll introduce one of the most influential
lecturers in Oxford University, whose ideas have shaped countless minds in academia and beyond.
