I never liked rings. I do not wear a high school ring; I do not wear a college ring, and I did not want to wear a wedding ring. This
was not because I did not want people to know that I was married, but because I just did not feel comfortable with a ring on my finger.
After graduating from college, I finally was about to"pop the question"to my sweetheart, Sharon Gail Weingarton, who was at
my side continually after I was seriously injured during a robbery.
Sharon was the best —— pretty, kind, sweet, and goodhearted. However, what would she say when I proposed and said that I
did not want to wear a wedding ring I practiced what I was going to say to her. I thought long and hard. I finally decided that there
was no answer to my problem. I would simply tell her, and then wait five minutes for the explosion.
So that night I proposed, and afterwards I told Sharon that I was not going to wear a ring. I simply said:“I just don't like rings. I
don't wear a high school ring....”I expected Sharon to become enraged:“WHAT DO YOU MEANYOU'RE NOT GOING TO WEAR
A WEDDING RING ”
However, instead, I merely heard silence. After what in my mind seemed like an age, Sharon quietly remarked:“Fine. If you
don't want to wear a wedding ring, I won't change my name. I will not call myself Sharon Segal.”
On our fifteenth anniversary (周年纪念日),I remembered the first lesson of marriage that was taught to me by my wife Sharon
Gail Segal as I looked down upon the ring on my ring finger —— COMPROMISE (妥协).
24. Why didn't the author want to wear a wedding ring
A. He hated letting others know he was married. B. Rings just made him feel uncomfortable.
C. He thought wedding rings were unnecessary. D. He forgot to prepare a ring for the proposal.
25. What can we infer about Sharon from the text
A. She was angry with the author's decision at first. B. She chose to end the relationship a bit later.
C. She was calm and willing to meet halfway. D. She cared more about her name than the ring.
26. What does the underlined word“enraged” in paragraph 4 probably mean
A. Excited. B. Disappointed. C. Confused. D. Angry.
27. What is the main idea of the text
A. The first important lesson of marriage the author learned.
B. The author's experience of proposing to his girlfriend.
C. How a wedding ring disagreement tested the couple's love.
D. Why the author finally changed his attitude towards rings.

In Australia, about 433,300 people are living with dementia, a figure projected to rise to 812,500 by 2054.Dementia refers to
brain disorders—— including Alzheimer's disease— that are not a normal part of ageing. These conditions cause a fall in cognitive
function (认知功能), along with changes in mood, memory, thinking and behaviour, in the end weakening a person's ability to carry
out everyday tasks.
Around 75% of Australians with dementia live at home. While home-based dementia care was once primarily given by older
spouses (配偶 ) or middle-aged children, an increasing number of young adults in their 20s and 30s,and even teenagers, are now
stepping into this role to care for grandparents, parents or other loved ones. Australia has 3 million carers in total——11.9% of the
population—— including 391,300 under the age of 25, a sharp increase from 235,300 in 2018.
How many of these young carers specifically support someone with dementia remains unclear, and more data is needed. These
young dementia carers are largely overlooked, with little recognition or support. Overlooked in research, policy and support services,
this gap results partly from challenges engaging them— they balance caregiving with education and work. Many don't self-identify as
carers, preventing access to help.
They require targeted support beyond general resources: specialized peer networks, educational programs and practical skills
training, successfully co-designed with them. With dementia cases rising globally, demand for young informal carers will grow.
Without timely support, they face burnout, social disconnection and long-term health problems. Investing in age-appropriate support
is a moral requirement and key to a sustainable care system.Dementia Australia offers a national helpline, information sessions and a
peer platform; Carers Australia's Young Carers Network provides mental health resources, financial guidance, necessary information
and financial support.
28. What can we learn about dementia in Australia from the text
A. The number of patients will nearly double by 2054. B. It is really an unavoidable result of getting older.
C. Most patients receive professional care in hospitals. D. Alzheimer's disease is quite unrelated to dementia.
29. What can we infer about young carers in Australia
A. They make up over 20% of the total carers. B. Their number has decreased since 2018.
C. Some are teenagers caring for family members. D. Most of them specialize in dementia care.
30. Why are young dementia carers lacking enough support
A. They refuse to participate in support programs. B. Their caregiving role is not fully recognized.
C. Australia has no relevant support services. D. They are too young to qualify for support.
31. According to the text, what is necessary for a sustainable care system
A. Reducing the number of dementia cases globally.
B. Encouraging middle-aged children to take up caregiving.
C. Increasing funding for hospital-based dementia care.
D. Providing age-appropriate support for young carers.

Obviously, I'm not alone in thinking about the wildlife of the park. People from around the world have been flooding my
Facebook and Instagram inboxes with questions about how the bears, wolves and other wildlife are surviving during one of the largest
wildfires in the history of one of the world's most beloved national parks.
The good news is that most large animals, particularly the bears and wolves, have the ability to outrun most fires, even one as
fast and as violent as the Jasper wildfire has been. By this point in the summer, the wolf pack that lives in the Athabasca River valley
will have mobile three-month-old young wolves that can travel dozens of kilometres, if need be, to flee any fire danger. Similarly,
most bears in the valley will be able to outpace the fires if they have a path of escape and don't get pinned against a wild river or an
unclimbable cliff(悬崖).
There is a real concern for mother bears with baby bears of the year (those born this year) that are still too small to travel quickly
in such fast-changing conditions—— several bears were killed in the similarly-sized Kenow wildfire in Waterton Lakes National
Park in 2017. However, despite the size of this wildfire (about 360 square kilometres have been burned to date), there are still over
10,000 square kilometres of Jasper National Park that remain fire-free and safe for wildlife like black bears.
The short-term effects of the fires may also be felt by Jasper bears that would normally be fattening up on buffaloberries in the
valley bottom, where the fire has burned the most violently. Thankfully, any temporary effects on bear populations should right
themselves as the forest renews and regrows in the Athabasca River valley in the years to come, providing plenty of bear food and
very suitable homes that will help keep the park's wolf populations healthy, too.
32. Why are mother bears with baby bears of the year a major concern
A. They are not familiar with the escape routes.
B. They prefer to stay in the very valley bottom.
C. The baby bears are too young to move quickly.
D. They rely on buffaloberries destroyed by the fire.
33. What can we learn about the Jasper wildfire from the text
A. It has burned the entire area of Jasper National Park.
B. It is the largest wildfire in the history of national parks.
C. It has caused no harm to the park's wolf populations.
D. It covers an area of about 360 square kilometres so far.
34. What is the writer's attitude toward Jasper National Park's wildfire
A. Concerned but optimistic about wildlife's survival.
B. Panicked and hopeless about the park's future.
C. Indifferent to the bad effect on the whole ecosystem.
D. Critical of the lack of fire prevention measures.
35. What would be the most suitable title for the text
A. The Disastrous Effects of Jasper National Park's Wildfire
B. How Wildlife in Jasper National Park Deals with the Wildfire
C. Measures to Protect Bears and Wolves in Jasper National Park
D. The History of Large Wildfires in World-Famous National Parks

How Sleep Enhances Emotional Intelligence
Getting enough sleep not only makes us feel better but also plays a key role in developing emotional intelligence. Here's how a
full night's rest supports this important ability.
Sleep supports emotional control.
36 For example, a tired teacher might speak sharply to students, or a sleepy coworker may react poorly to simple
requests. Such behavior can harm relationships. Sleep helps the part of our brain that manages feelings work better. Learning to
control our emotions is a key skill for emotional intelligence, and good sleep makes this possible.
Sleep improves understanding of others.
During deep sleep, the brain areas that recognize emotions in faces are refreshed. If we miss this sleep, we may misread
expressions. 37 Correctly understanding facial expressions allows us to connect with others better and share their feelings. This
ability is the base of empathy and strong social connections.
38
Being able to solve problems in new ways is important for emotional growth. A full night of sleep, rich in dreams, boosts our
problem-solving skills. Studies show that after good sleep, people can solve problems more easily and come up with fresh ideas.
During sleep, our brain safely processes information and finds different answers to difficult problems. 39
Sleep aids social judgment.
Enough sleep sharpens our skills for social situations. Well-rested people are better at noticing small signals in conversations,
like a change in someone's voice or face, and responding in the right way. 40 Sleep also helps control our emotional reactions,
allowing for wiser and more thoughtful choices in both work and personal relationships.
A. Sleep leads to problem-solving.
B. Sleep encourages creative thinking.
C. Without enough sleep, people often become easily upset.
D. This leads to clearer communication with fewer mistakes.
E. For example, we might see a friendly face as an angry one.
F. As a result, we can better handle change and new situations.
G. Too many angry expressions by day can disrupt sleep at night.

My daughters were less than thrilled when I told them I was setting up accounts(账号) on any social media websites they visited.
Like so many young people, they felt that these sites were for teens, and that Mom was simply too old to be tweetsing or on Facebook.
They didn't want their mom“spying” on them, either. I assured them that was not my purpose.
Truthfully, I was a little concerned about some of the negative stories I had heard about the Internet. I figured I would check
their accounts weekly, but I wasn't really interested in doing anything else with my accounts.
After the first few weeks, however, this began to change. People from my past began asking to be my“friend”—— my best
friends from kindergarten, my high school teachers, and my long-lost penfriend from England. A whole new world opened up to me. I
reconnected with so many people who had influenced my life in a positive way, and I was glad to find out what was going on in their
lives. Hearing about their careers and families, and seeing pictures of their children—— all of these things were special to me and
truly brightened my day.
One of the happiest days was when I reconnected with my friend Beth from high school. Her mom had been my sixth-grade
teacher and had encouraged me in my writing. I was glad to let her know that her mom's encouragement had helped me take up short-
story writing. The more we talked, the closer we became. We got closer through our mutual interest in charity(慈善) work, and after a
while, we planned a visit to see her second cousin, Mary, and her family, who ran a Christian youth camp in Kentucky. They were in
need of clothing, kitchen equipment, and financial contributions, and we began to gather these, expecting our trip.
注意:
1.续写词数应为 150左右;

Several months later, my daughter Blakely and I pulled up to Beth's house in Memphis, Tennessee. Even though we had not
seen each other in thirty years, the time flew away as soon as we saw each other. We packed my car to the full with our donations and
headed out to rural Kentucky. I don't think we stopped talking, laughing, and catching up during the entire thirteen-hour drive. When
we finally arrived at the camp, Beth's family greeted us with open arms. Tired but happy, we unloaded the car and were touched by
their excitement at seeing our gifts. I was thrilled to have so many new friends.
Our weekend flew by with a charity sale to benefit the camp and a delicious dinner. Mary and her children sang, played musical
instruments, and gave us a tour of their town. Later, through my Facebook account, I continued sharing the camp's needs with my
friends, who also donated supplies, doubling the help we could offer. We were sad to leave, but felt enriched and blessed by the
experience. I gained many more Facebook friends as a result of my visit— friends who now share their life stories and even invite me
to join community activities, making my days more colorful than ever before.
A
The Grinch & Friends Character Breakfast
24. B 根据第一段最后一句“because I just did not feel comfortable with a ring on my finger”,可知作者不戴婚戒的核心原因是佩戴
26. D 结合后文作者预想的激烈质问“WHAT DO YOU MEAN…”,可推测 enraged意为“暴怒的”。
30. B 第三段明确提到年轻照护者“largely overlooked, with little recognition”,且很多人“don't self-identify as carers”,核心原因是

C“Without enough
sleep, people often become easily upset.”
E“For example, we might see a
friendly face as an angry one.”
调创造性思维(如“come up with fresh ideas”)作为情绪成长的重要过程,B项更贴合段首的“emotional growth”及段中
F“As a result, we can
better handle change and new situations.”

D“This leads to clearer communication with fewer mistakes.”

51. A “almost to the ”结合诗歌背诵场景,指接近诗歌结尾, end (结尾)符合逻辑。

55. A “God gives us memories…”

Text 10
M:I have a special pet, and his name is Cooper. So, Cooper is a dog that we have, and he's a King Charles Cavalier. The King
Charles Cavalier were brought up to be companion dogs, and they possess a calm and easygoing nature and are good with children,
but our dog that's quite special is nothing like that. He runs around, he pulls;he's a bit pushy. He would jump all over us when we get
home, wiggling his tail wildly like he hasn't seen us in years, but we don't mind because he's our special dog. Now he has white and
brown fur, and this mix is usually called a Blenheim color, and he loves to eat anything. He chews different parts of the house——
table legs, shoes, even sofa cushions. He' ll eat your socks if you leave them lying around. But we still love him because he is our
special pet, full of lively energy that lights up our days.
