Have you ever felt nervous about trying something for the first time It’s the same for everyone, and overcoming fears and taking healthy risks can open up new experiences.
Step out of your comfort zone (舒适区)
Summer is a great time to try something new, like learning a skill or making new friends. It can feel exciting but scary, because doing something new means taking a risk that it won’t work out. Scientists say feeling nervous is our body dealing with danger, it frees chemicals that make the heart race. However, Catherine Hayes Fisher from the mental health charity Place2Be tells The Week Junior not to let it stop you. “Not loving something at first doesn’t mean you’ve made a terrible mistake to try it,” she says. “It’s part of growth.”
Have a go anyway
Feeling the fear but having a go anyway is a great way to increase your confidence and this gives you the strength to overcome challenges, get over from difficult experiences and stay strong inside. It also means making the most of exciting opportunities. Think of a time you took a risk and it paid off, like joining a team and scoring a goal or talking to someone next to you and making a new friend. Then think what you would miss out on if you’d let fear get in the way. However, not all risks are good ideas. So if you’re unsure about anything, ask a trusted adult first.
Manage your worries
How you deal with a challenge is important, says Hayes Fisher. So be kind and tell yourself, “I don’t know how to do this yet, I’m going to make mistakes, but it’ll be fun working it out.” She also warns about the “spotlight effect”, explaining, “It’s easy to feel that everybody is watching when we’re in a new situation.” But remember that most people are probably busy worrying about what they’re doing. Everyone overcomes fear differently, so find what works for you. You could try belly breathing or talking to someone about your feelings.
23.According to scientists, why do we feel nervous when trying new things
A.Because we are in bad health.
B.Because our body is facing possible danger.
C.Because we are not smart enough to learn quickly.
D.Because summer weather makes people uncomfortable.
24.What does Catherine Hayes Fisher tell us about trying new things
A.It’s a great way to increase your confidence.
B.We should only try things we know we’ll love.
C.It’s normal not to enjoy something immediately.
D.Not enjoying something at first means we made a mistake.
25.What does the underlined expression “spotlight effect” refer to in the last paragraph
A.trusting adults to help you shine. B.using bright lights to reduce fear.
C.thinking everyone is watching you. D.focusing only on your own feelings.
26.What is the main purpose of the article
A.To explain why summer is the best season.
B.To encourage people to avoid taking risks.
C.To describe how chemicals influence our bodies.
D.To teach ways to build confidence through trying new things.

The helping team got there on the morning of March 29. They sent technology, food and other things that people needed. Other countries like India, Thailand, Singapore and Russia also joined the work. Dear Jack,
I’m glad that you are interested in our school activities. Personally, I prefer Plan A—the Taichi Relaxing Hall, which beautifully connects tradition with health, providing a peaceful escape from the busy school life.
Here are several reasons for my choice. To start with, it takes place from 7: 30 to 8: 00 on Tuesday morning, which fits my routine perfectly. For me, doing exercise in the early morning is helpful to refresh both my body and soul. Furthermore, it serves as an effective way of releasing stress. As I focus on slow Taichi movements, my mind calms down gradually and all the pressure seems to melt away. Lastly, it also allows me to enhance my cultural confidence. By learning its skills and philosophy, I feel closer to my cultural roots and more determined to pass down this precious heritage.
Which plan do you like better I can’t wait to hear from you.
Yours,
Li Hua
