(2025·山东淄博三模)Anna Du was walking along the beach at Castle Island in South Boston when she noticed plastic scattered (散落) across the shoreline. She bent down to pick some up but quickly realized there were far too many tiny pieces to handle.“When I saw how much plastic there was,it seemed impossible to clean it all up,” recalls Du,who was in sixth grade at the time.Instead of giving up,Du tackled the problem like any good scientist—starting with research. That's how she discovered that 8 million tons of plastic end up in the oceans every year.
Inspired by her findings,Du decided to build a remote-operated vehicle (ROV) to detect microplastics on the ocean floor. Her ROV,made from PVC pipes, features two main systems: a navigation system and a detection system. The navigation system uses propellers (螺旋桨) and a combination of fishing weights and foam floats (lightweight materials that keep the device floating) to move up and down. The detection system, however,is the real innovation. It uses infrared
cameras (红外相机) and light wavelengths to spot microplastics, making them stand out against sand and plants.Actually, the device doesn't collect microplastics, but it identifies where they accumulate.Du has even applied for a patent on the Rov's key components.
Faced with the challenge of locating ocean microplastics—unlike the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, these are not floating on the surface—she knew an ROV would be the most efficient tool.Taking water samples and analyzing them in a lab could never be done on the scale needed.Instead, she needed a mobile lab to detect plastics in-situ.
Her ROV.impressed many experts with its clever design.“She has an impressive engineering instinct,” says Casey Mach ado,an engineer at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.“Her ability to break down problems and create solutions is remarkable.”
“I want to be an engineer because I love building things to help solve global problems,” says Du.“But I'm not sure yet what kind of engineer I want to be.” At her age,she has plenty of time to figure that out.

(2025·江苏南京外国语学校模拟)“Individuals of all ages who have empathy (共情) understand that sometimes telling little white lies can protect other people from getting hurt,” says Barbara Greenberg,a clinical psychologist in Connecticut.“Most people that I have come across tell these little white lies because they understand that 100 percent honesty all the time is not beneficial.”A white lie,she explains, spares people from unnecessary hurt.
At the same time,Dr.Julia Breur,a marriage and family therapist in Florida, emphasizes the importance of paying attention to the way we respond to someone. The fact is that not telling the truth can result in something unpleasant for you;it's not just about the person the white lie is being told to.For example, she says someone, who always tells others that “all is good” when it comes to a sick parent in an effort to avoid discussions about how serious their health issue really is,can eventually face stressful experiences. When that parent eventually passes away, the person who always gave an “all is good”response ends up emotionally broken.
Sometimes, telling white lies often depends on the situation,Dr.Breur says. For example, consider a woman who has not seen her mother for several months. The daughter has gained noticeable weight, yet the mother responds by excitedly declaring that she looks great.“I emphasize during psychotherapy sessions with my patients that context helps define meaning,” Dr.Breur says.“So when we look at the context of a mother saying you look great when she clearly
sees that her daughter has gained weight,it can be acceptable. It reflects the intention of the white lie which is kindness, protection and unconditional love.Otherwise, white lies—especially when told to avoid personal accountability—can start a cycle of mistrust between people, ultimately compromising integrity,” she adds.
Therefore,it's important to ask ourselves when it is and isn't appropriate to deliver the honest truth, and when it's best to step back and offer a more delicate response.More often than not,it's about finding a balance between the two.

(2025·浙江十二校联考)Social media influencer marketing has become an increasingly popular strategy for brands to reach consumers.Influencers, with their large followings and the ability to engage audiences, are seen as powerful tools for promoting products and services. However, while influencer marketing shows great potential, its effectiveness metrics, mainly centered around follower count, engagement rate, and reach, have significant limitations.
These metrics are good at identifying influencers with a wide audience reach, but they struggle to distinguish between influencers who can drive actual sales and those who only generate surface-level engagement. For example,an influencer might have a high number of followers and a seemingly impressive engagement rate, but their audience may not be the right target for a particular brand's products. This means that a brand could invest heavily in an influencer campaign based on these metrics, only to see minimal return on investment.
This limitation may not be a major concern for brands that focus on increasing brand awareness in a broad sense. But for those aiming to achieve specific business goals, such as driving e-commerce sales or boosting product sign-ups,it can lead to wasted resources and missed opportunities.
In their current form, these effectiveness metrics have several drawbacks.First, follower count can be inflated through fake followers or bots, creating a false impression of an influencer's reach.Engagement rates can also be misleading,as some influencers may use tactics like “like-for-like”exchanges or buy fake comments to artificially boost numbers. Moreover, the concept of reach doesn't consider the quality of the audience reached.A large reach among an uninterested or mismatched audience is of little value to a brand.
To address these issues and provide brands with a more accurate understanding of an influencer's true value, several solutions can be considered. One approach is to analyze an influencer's audience demographics in more detail.Brands should look beyond basic metrics and study factors such as the age, gender, location, interests, and purchasing behavior of an influencer's followers.By doing so,they can determine whether the influencer's audience aligns with their target market.
Another key measure is to track the actual conversion rates resulting from influencer campaigns.Instead of relying solely on engagement and reach, brands should monitor how many clicks, purchases,or sign-ups an influencer drives. This data provides a more direct indication of an influencer's ability to generate business results.Additionally, brands can conduct A/B testing, comparing the performance of different influencers or influencer strategies,to identify the most effective approaches.
While these effectiveness metrics alone can't ensure the success of influencer marketing campaigns, implementing these improvements can make the evaluation process more reliable. This,in turn, helps brands make more informed decisions, optimize their marketing budgets, and achieve better results from influencer partnerships.

(2026·河北衡水中学模拟)As the seasons are starting to change around the world, the animal kingdom is on the move.Animal migration is one of nature's great wonders, but how do animals know when it is time to set off on their journey,or where they need to go?Once they've worked out their destination, how do they know how to get there? 16 .
Migration is a behavioral pattern where animals travel from one habitat to another in search of something. It happens seasonally, and usually involves a return journey. These journeys can be by land, sea or air. 17 .Animals like gazelle, wildebeest and zebra migrate in huge herds during dry seasons to look for fresh grass to eat and water to drink.
Animals also migrate because of the weather.Around 50 bird species leave the UK each winter to avoid the cold. 18 .They're either searching for a mate, looking for somewhere to lay their eggs or finding the best place to raise their young. For example, humpback whales travel to warmer waters each winter to raise their calves.
19 ,but how do they know when it is time to head off?For those who migrate to look for something to eat, scientists think shortages of food could be a sign that it's time to begin their journey.Others might be able to recognize when winter is coming because they can see that the days are getting shorter.
So how do they know where to go?Some use the stars and the sun to help them navigate while others rely on landmarks like rivers and mountains to show them where they are. 20 .Wildebeest are thought to follow the smell of rain.
A.Below are some ways they get there
B.Animals have their reasons for migrating
C.Scientists have been puzzled by these questions for many years
D.It's also possible for animals to sniff their way to their destination
E.Some birds travel to the UK to escape extreme cold further north
F.One of the main reasons behind animal migration is the search for food

The red rock mountains of southern Utah are popular among adventure seekers, offering splendid sand dunes (沙丘),narrow canyons and sandstone cliffs that can be forbidding to inexperienced hikers because of dangers from rough terrain (地形) and terrible weather.Mr.Smith had decided to take the hike the previous night.“It's a typical track that we have taken so many times,”he said.On a navigator (导航仪) app on his phone,he showed his wife their expected route.“Look,we're going to start right here. We're going to end up out there. And we'll meet each other in the park around this time.”
The boy and his father set out on their hike shortly before 11 a.m.on Sunday.Everything was going well. They got to the overlook that they were trying to check out.The plan was to meet Allen at a parking lot at the foot of the mountain by 6 p.m.at the latest. They were actually walking back, talking about what they were going to do the moment they got home.On the way back Mr.Smith decided to use the navigator app on his phone. On previous hikes, the father always relied on a compass, footsteps and tracks to guide
him. However, this time Mr.Smith was depending on his GPS,and came to find out GPS took them to some of the rockiest places. It didn't turn out the way they wanted. The application ended up sending them somewhere else on the other side of the mountains where they ended up getting trapped.
The navigator app not only got them lost but also drained (耗尽) the battery on their only phone. It was dark and the weather was getting cold.

They were trying to look for shelter when they came across a backpack with a note inside.John opened the backpack.Inside lay a flashlight,a blanket, and matches left by a previous hiker with a note:“For whoever needs hope.” Mr.Smith's tense face softened, with relief shining in his eyes.“We'll make it,son,” he murmured.Kneeling on the rocky ground, they struck a match and its
tiny flame danced bravely against the wind. They piled dry branches around the flame to keep it burning through the night.Under the blanket,John pressed closer to his father, listening to his steady heartbeat—a rhythm that whispered courage.Above, stars blinked through the clouds, silent witnesses to their stubborn hope.
Early the next morning,Smith and his son saw the rescue teams who were sent by Paul.“Over here!”Mr.Smith shouted, waving his jacket.John's heart leaped, and tears blurred his vision as rescue teams emerged.Paul, leading the group, grinned,“Your fire's smoke guided us!” Exhausted but excited,John stumbled forward, hugging his mother, who had insisted on joining the search.Mr.Smith clasped Paul's hand, gratitude choking his words. As sunlight bathed the canyon,John glanced back at the charred matchsticks, now symbols not of desperation, but of humanity's chain of kindness—broken tracks mended by shared light.

It uses infrared cameras (红外相机) and light wavelengths to spot microplastics, making them stand out against sand and plants.Actually, the device doesn't collect microplastics, but it identifies where they accumulate.Du has even applied for a patent on the Rov's key components.
4.What motivates Anna Du to build the ROV
A.Her interest in engineering design.
B.Her discovery of plastic pollution.
C.Her participation in a school project.
D.Her desire for marine biology.
5.What is the highlight of Au's invention
A.Its use of recycled PVC materials.
B.Its ability to classify plastic types.
C.Its floating control system.
D.Its advanced detection system.
6.What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about
A.The necessity of ROV.
B.The impact of microplastics.
C.The challenges in the invention.
D.The limitation of the traditional lab.
7.Which of the following best describes Anna Du
A.Cooperative. B.Particular.
C.Humble. D.Creative.

The daughter has gained noticeable weight, yet the mother responds by excitedly declaring that she looks great.“I emphasize during psychotherapy sessions with my patients that context helps define meaning,” Dr.Breur says.“So when we look at the context of a mother saying you look great when she clearly sees that her daughter has gained weight,it can be acceptable.
8.What can be learned about white lies according to Barbara Greenberg
A.They are short-lived.
B.They are unidentifiable.
C.They are troublemaking.
D.They are common.
9.What message does Dr.Breur deliver in paragraph 2
A.White lies can harm both the liars and the listeners.
B.We must respond to our family members truthfully.
C.It's wrong to tell white lies to a seriously ill parent.
D.The “all is good” response is effective in dealing with patients.
10.What is Dr.Breur's attitude towards the mother's practice in paragraph 3
A.Uncaring. B.Critical.
C.Supportive. D.Doubtful.
11.Which of the following is the best title for the text
A.East or West,White Lies Are the Best
B.Think Twice Before You Tell White Lies
C.White Lies Signify Unconditional Love
D.White Lies Are Empathetic People's Favorable Choice

12.What function can the current effectiveness metrics of influencer marketing serve
A.They can help brands accurately measure sales growth.
B.They can assist in identifying influencers with broad audience reach.
C.They can guarantee a high return on investment for brands.
D.They can effectively distinguish high-performing influencers.
13.What can be inferred from an influencer having a high engagement rate
A.Their audience is highly interested in the promoted products.
B.They are definitely capable of driving significant sales.
C.The engagement rate might not reflect real influence.
D.They have a large number of loyal and active followers.
14.What contributes to a more accurate evaluation of an influencer's value
A.Focusing solely on the follower count and reach.
B.Relying on the engagement rate as the main criterion.
C.Analyzing the demographics and conversion rates of the audience.
D.Conducting surveys about the influencer's personal reputation.
15.What is the main purpose of this passage
A.To compare different influencer marketing strategies.
B.To expose the false data in influencer marketing metrics.
C.To present the advantages of influencer marketing.
D.To propose improvements for influencer marketing effectiveness metrics.

G.For some animals,it's the need to reproduce that sends them on their journey

The Joy of TreePlanting
Privileged to obtain first prize in the Micro Video Competition themed “The Joy of Labour”,I'm honored to brief you about my submission, capturing precious moments of treeplanting activity of our class.
On Tree Planting Day,we gathered at the school gate and took a coach to our destination.Upon arrival, the teachers showed us the steps of planting trees, after which we were divided into small groups to complete our tasks. While enjoying being close to nature,we cooperated with each other, some digging holes, some planting small trees, and some watering them.Despite our exhaustion, our time and effort paid off.
The activity has been a truly precious experience for me.Not only does it offer me a chance to acquire handson experience, but it also deepens my understanding of environmental protection.

They were trying to look for shelter when they came across a backpack with a note inside.John opened the backpack.Inside lay a flashlight,a blanket, and matches left by a previous hiker with a note:“For whoever needs hope.” Mr.Smith's tense face softened, with relief shining in his eyes.“We'll make it,son,” he murmured.Kneeling on the rocky ground, they struck a match and its tiny flame danced bravely against the wind.
