一、阅读理解
This year there were big changes for both students and teachers at Beijing New Oriental Foreign Language School in Yangzhou, Jiangsu. These changes came after the school started using AI (人工智能) tools.
Now, teachers can use AI to make special exercises and tests for each student. This helps teachers teach in a way that fits each student’s needs and abilities. That’s to say, the ways of teaching are proper for each student with the help of AI. After finishing a unit, teachers use AI to choose different questions from an online question bank. Then AI makes special exercises about the unit for students. These exercises are printed on paper sheets (纸).
“Thanks to these AI-made sheets, we don’t need to carry heavy exercise books anymore.” said 14-year-old He Liyan. Students write their answers on answer sheets. Teachers scan (扫描) these sheets into an AI system (系统). The AI then helps to check the answers. “Now our teacher doesn’t explain every question. Instead, she only talks about common mistakes and helps each of us personally.” said 15-year-old Wang Dinghan.
What’s more, students get special mistake lists or homework made by AI based on (根据) their past test results. “The homework focuses on what I got wrong before, so I don’t waste time on things I already know. I really love the homework made by AI!” said He. “I used to write down my mistakes in a notebook to review later.” said 15-year-old Yu Zifu, “But now, AI does this for me!”

“The reason I love singing in Putonghua is quite simple: it has two things that I love—Chinese and music,” said by Mateus Felipe, a 26-year-old Brazilian (巴西的) student, “My Chinese friends are surprised to see a Brazilian man singing in Putonghua.”
For him, learning Chinese has been an interesting journey because it is so different from his own language, Portuguese. Everything is new, which makes the learning process an exciting adventure. Besides his native language, he can also speak English, Chinese, Spanish, and French.
Around the age of five, he started to learn how to play the piano and also play a bit of guitar. He would like to learn everything about music, including its theory and harmony.
At Shanghai University, he has been actively involved in music. Every Thursday, he has rehearsals (排练) with his partners. It is not only productive but also fun. They are often invited to perform outside the university, which helps them form stronger relationship.
Music isn’t just something interesting for him, but a way of life. Throughout his musical journey, he has grown not only as a singer but also as a person. He also said, “In my lifelong journey of learning music and Chinese, I will continue experiencing new adventures and exploring more uncharted territories.”

I was able to write and read in English, but I couldn’t speak English well when I was traveling to English-speaking countries. It was also very difficult for me to understand the natives (本地人). Things changed after I joined ACC (Advanced Conversation Club).
For a long time, I tried to learn English in different schools and in different ways, but it didn’t work well. I’m a doctor and I am very busy with my work so I don’t always have free time for studying. Joining ACC is perfect for me because I can listen to the lessons anywhere and anytime. For example, every day it takes me about one hour to go to work or to go home. When I am in the car, I always listen to ACC lessons. By doing it, I improve my English day by day.
After three years’ study, I can understand 80%~90% of a movie without reading subtitles (字幕). Last year I was in New York City and I could talk to the natives with perfect English. Once, at a bus station, an American told me, “Your English is good. You could live here without problems.” Of course, I was very happy when hearing the words.

A.The Main Meaning of ACC B.The Way of Joining ACC
C.Why the Writer Learns English D.How the Writer Learns English
A few days ago, I received a letter from my Aunt Lorraine. It was a handwritten letter thanking me for some Shanghai cookies I had sent her: Aunt Lorraine is ninety﹣one years old and she has wonderful manners. That is why she sent me the “thank you”letter. She also has wonderful handwriting. Her penmanship (书法) is smooth. Each individual letter and word is perfectly formed. It is a pleasure to read her letters.
Aunt Lorraine was educated half a century ago. At that time, penmanship was considered an important skill. Now, it is the age of e-mail and social media. Few people have the time or desire to practice their penmanship or write letters by hand.
This is unfortunate (令人遗憾的). In my view, good penmanship still counts. This is especially true in school. If you want to get good grades on your essays (短文), neatness will be important. Your essay might be full of good ideas. However, messy handwriting can turn an A into a B.Awful handwriting can get you a D!
Good penmanship has other benefits (好处), too. Since it’s a skill, it trains your brain and develops your learning abilities. It also helps you organize (整理) your thoughts. And, believe it or not, that slow process of pushing a pen along paper improves your reading, spelling and even your pronunciation of English.
Apart from all these educational benefits, good penmanship also has personal benefits. A neatly written letter to a friend is something he or she will treasure (珍藏) forever. A letter that looks as if a chicken had danced across the paper will be quickly thrown away. I have kept the letter from my Aunt Lorraine. It’s a great treasure!
14.Why did Aunt Lorraine write the letter
A.To make herself pleased. B.To show her wonderful manners.
C.To express her thanks. D.To set a good example to the writer.
15.What is the Chinese meaning of the underlined word “counts” in Paragraph 3
A.计数在内 B.被接受 C.有价值 D.有指望
16.According to the author, which of the following are the benefits of neat handwriting
①Making new friends.
②Getting good grades on your essays.
③Organizing your thoughts.
④Improving your English pronunciation.
⑤Making your essay full of good ideas.
A.②③④ B.①③④ C.②④⑤ D.①②⑤
17.The underlined part in the last paragraph is used to describe ________.
A.a boring letter B.bad handwriting C.a great treasure D.good penmanship
18.What’s the writer’s purpose of writing this article
A.To share her pleasure of hearing from her aunt.
B.To express the importance of neat handwriting.
C.To talk about her experiences of practicing penmanship.
D.To encourage people to write letters by hand instead of e-mailing.
I started learning English at the age of 22. It is a bit late to start learning a language. Of course the age is not a problem if you really want to learn something, and I support (支持) lifetime learning. However, it is also a fact that kids learn languages much faster than adults (成年人).
Anyway, I studied English first and then studied Translation (翻译) in the US. I had to first finish the six-month long English study and score 550 on the TOEFL (托福) in order to go to the US.
It was challenging to score 550 on the TOEFL in six months for an English learner from the start. However, the six-month-long study was very successful. In order to do well, I moved to a different city and I rented (租) a house with a friend who was also studying English. We did not have any distractions (干扰因素) such as televisions or computers or smart phones, and anyway there was no smart phones in 1995 and we were lucky to get fewer distractions.
We had classes every weekday from 8:30 to 16:30 with a lunch break only. Every day after the classes were over, we would directly go back home and have something for dinner and start doing our homework. This study would go on until we became sleepy.
I remember this went on and on for six months, the only distraction was the weekend movie break. Finally, both my friend and I were very excited about getting a TOEFL score of 550 and went to the US. All the best to you in your journey of learning a language.

A.Sad. B.Pleased. C.Nervous. D.Worried.
At school, students usually learn many subjects in the classroom like English, math and so on. Now there is a new one in some schools—school gardening. It is an outdoor subject. In the gardening class, teachers teach students different kinds of vegetables and how to grow them. Then students work in groups.
▲ Why Because they can have much fun in this class. They don’t have to sit at their desks in the classroom all day. They can get out, get their hands dirty, do things with their own hands and relax.
It’s also fun to get something to eat and see. In some schools, students like to grow carrots and tomatoes. It’s always interesting for them to get a carrot or a tomato, wash it and eat it right in the garden. In some schools, students like to grow flowers. When it’s spring, all the flowers come out and they’re really beautiful. Students like to walk and talk in the beauty. That’s their favorite thing to do after busy hours of work.
Only fun from the classes Of course not. Students can learn something, too. Keeping a school garden is difficult and all the students in the group need to come and help. This teaches students teamwork. Also, some vegetables are easy to grow, but others need a long time. This teaches students they need to wait before they get the things they want.
There may be many other good things about school gardening. But one thing is for sure—students really love having outdoor classes.

Numbers are beautiful
Many people today want to have beautiful looks. But there is math hidden in beautiful human bodies. Measure (测量) the length (长度) from your head to your belly button (肚脐) and from your belly button to your feet. The ratio (比例) of these two numbers is always around 0.618. This is the golden ratio (黄金比例), which can be seen everywhere, like in nature, music and paintings.
In Chinese poems (诗歌), we can also see the beauty of numbers. As Li Bai wrote, “I’ve sailed a thousand miles through Gorges in a day (千里江陵一日还)”, “My skiff has left ten thousand mountains far away (轻舟已过万重山)”. “A thousand miles in one day”, “ten thousand mountains”—all these numbers show how fast Li Bai traveled and how happy he felt. Numbers give us freedom (自由) to imagine.
Formulas (公式) are beautiful
There are many amazing formulas. For example, in a right-angled triangle (直角三角形), the square (平方) of the longest side is equal (等于) to the sum (和) of the squares of the other two sides. How neat (简洁的)! Just as the Chinese-American mathematician (数学家) Shiing-shen Chern said, “Math is fun!”
27.How much is the golden ratio
A.0.618. B.0.681. C.6.18. D.0.168.
