A Great Science Day
Last Monday, April 14th, our school held a Science Day. The theme was “Discover the Wonders of Nature.” Over 300 students from different grades joined the activities. The school gym became a science lab with colorful posters and experiments.
The most popular activity was the “Volcano (火山) Experiment.” Students mixed baking soda and vinegar to create a small explosion, which looked like a real volcano erupting. Many students were amazed by the reaction. Another interesting experiment was “Rainbow in a Jar.” Using oil, water, and food coloring, students learned about density (密度) and how liquids (液体) separate.
My favorite part was the “Egg Drop Challenge.” We had to design a container to protect an egg from breaking when dropped from the second floor. My team used a plastic bottle filled with cotton and soft toys. It worked! The egg stayed safe. We were so excited.
During the day, we also listened to a speech by Dr. Li, a famous biologist. She talked about how plants and animals adapt to their environments. She showed us some amazing photos of polar bears and cacti (仙人掌). “Science is all around us,” she said. “Keep asking questions!”
At the end of the day, everyone received a certificate (证书) and a small plant. I think the Science Day was not only fun but also taught us to love learning and questioning. Now, I can’t wait for next year’s event!

Puberty (青春期) is the stage of life when young people leave childhood and head into adulthood. It is a difficult process for teenagers because it has an effect on both their minds and bodies. They need to understand what is going on with their bodies, how to deal with those changes and how to start taking responsibility for themselves.
A young person may begin puberty at 8, while another may not start puberty until 14 or 15. In general, girls start puberty two years before boys do. For both girls and boys, it is usually complete by the age of 18.
During these years, the body develops in many ways. Feelings can also change quickly.
Teenage boys at this stage often take unnecessary risks. Their focus is on having fun and being accepted by others. They need to think before they act and make good decisions for themselves.
A girl’s personality often does not develop in the same way as a boy’s.
Teenage girls sometimes lose confidence in themselves. They are no longer certain about their own feelings. Yet they are usually afraid to tell their parents or teachers about their problems. For this reason, teenage girls should be encouraged to discuss things with trusted adults.

At present many students do little reading after class. Here are several reasons. First, many students are burdened with too much homework. Also, some of them haven’t formed a habit of reading. They would rather spend their spare time on TV or computer games.
However, reading has many advantages. Through reading, we can gain knowledge and broaden our minds. It can also improve our writing skills.
To solve this problem, teachers should limit the amount of homework so that we can have more time for reading. We can also set up reading clubs and learn from each other.
