Hello, everyone. Today our topic is charity. Do you know
Oxfam? It is a non-government organization with over 3,000 partners in
around 100 countries. Oxfam was originally founded in Oxford in 1942.
During World War Ⅱ, a group of people in Oxford, England,
organized Oxfam to send money to Greece. When the war was over,
they continued to give money, food and clothing to other countries in
Europe.
In the 1960s, Oxfam started working on long-term development in
many countries. It aims to lift people out of hunger, poverty and
disease. It wants to prevent problems instead of trying to solve them after
they have occurred. However, it continues to provide food to the
hungry, sick and homeless people around the world.
Oxfam believes that all humans share one world with limited
resources. Rich and poor countries depend on each other.
Where does Oxfam get money? Ordinary people in developed
countries give money. Oxfam also has small shops. They sell beautiful
things that villagers in developing countries make. Oxfam receives
millions of dollars every year.
第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
  阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳
选项。
A
Monarch butterflies are among the planet’s most powerful
migrators.Every autumn, a new generation is born in the northern United
States and southern Canada. They then fly far to the mountains of Central
Mexico, between 2,485 and 2,982 miles away.To help this
migration, a team of scientists has planted new overwintering sites along
the slopes of a Mexican volcano.
The butterflies overwinter in the forests of sacred fir trees at high
altitudes (海拔).However, these forests that the monarchs need to
survive their migration are at risk because of climate change.Creating new
forests on the higher mountains and outside the insects’ current
geographic range could be a solution.
“Here, we show the possibility of planting new trees on a nearby
volcano,” Saenz-Romero, a biologist in Mexico said.“We call this
‘assisted migration’: planting seedlings (幼苗) grown from seeds
from existing sacred fir populations to new sites whose climate by 2060
will become similar to that at today’s overwintering sites because of
global warming.”
The seedlings were planted at four tested altitudes — 11,154, 11,
811, 12,467, and 13,123 feet.The last was included because it’s
the highest altitude at which sacred fir trees can survive in today’s
climate.
Researchers found that when seedlings were moved to locations
higher and colder than the initial stand, their growth and survival
declined. At the highest altitude of 13,123 feet, the growth was nearly
zero and many seedlings showed frost damage.Between 11,811 and 12,
467 feet, the seedlings had 27 percent less survival than at the baseline of
11,154 feet.According to the researchers, this survival is “very
acceptable”.
“These planted places would finally serve as overwintering sites for
the monarch butterfly under warmer climates,” said Saenz-
Romero.“In fact, as the earth heats, monarch butterflies have
established new and large colonies at colder places, which suggests that
they already are searching for new places to overwinter.Once our
seedlings are fully grown, they will hopefully discover our planting
site, too.”

(2025·石家庄高一检测)A recent report from a United Nations
group warns that using technology in classes may not help as much as
many people believe. It says that technology can be helpful, but it
shouldn’t be the focus.Instead, technology should be used to support
learning.“Too much attention on technology in education usually comes
at a high cost,” the report says.
Technology changes so fast that it’s hard to study how it really
influences students. The new report says that many of the studies showing
that technology helps students come from rich countries and that some of
the studies supporting technology come from companies that sell
technology to schools.
As classes moved online, the use of technology in education grew
even more quickly. Many students were forced to study at home, using
video calls to communicate with their teachers. But the report points out
that around 500 million students were unable to take part in online
classes. That’s a larger problem.People and countries with less money
are often left out.
It is true that technology can help in many ways, like allowing
students to learn in more interesting ways, helping teachers explain
difficult ideas and helping students with special needs. But it can also be
very distracting (分散注意力的).When students use phones in class,
it can disturb (扰乱) their learning. One study that was carried out in 14
countries showed that even just having a smartphone nearby can be
distracting.Even so, only less than 25% of the world’s countries
don’t allow students to use phones in schools.
The report suggests that the best way to learn is still to work closely
with teachers.Working with other classmates also helps students
learn. Most schools should spend more money on things like books,
classrooms, and teachers.

(2025·南充高一期末)Have you ever joyously stepped out to your
backyard garden, only to find your carefully cared-for plants and herbs
dying? Was the soil too dry? Did pests find their way in? During times
like these, some frustrated gardeners may wish their plants would just tell
them what they need.A new Microsoft-partnered project in the UK is
trying to see if that concept can be realized in the real-world.
Next year, the Royal Horticultural Society in England will show off
an “intelligent garden” that uses an AI model to monitor the garden’s
environment and inform gardeners when it needs care.Visitors can ask the
AI-powered garden questions. The model could then respond with phrases
like “I need a bit more water”, or “I could use a haircut” depending
on data captured in the soil.Apart from the pleasant chat with plants, the
garden will provide visitors with a physical representation of the many
ways AI could be used to improve sustainability (可持续性) and
conservation efforts moving forward.
When the garden is completed, it will rely on a network of sensors
throughout the garden measuring environmental factors like soil moisture
and nutrient levels as well as wind and projected rainfall. All of that data is
then sent to a specially designed AI model housed in a room at the back of
the garden. The model, powered by Microsoft’s Azure Open AI
Service, can then analyze those factors and inform gardeners on
feeding, watering and trimming (修剪).
Tom Massey, one of the garden’s two designers, described the
project as a “unique opportunity”.“I am excited to see how AI can
assist gardeners to help make a meaningful impact that will help us all
garden and grow more sustainably,” Massey said in a recent interview.

  (2025·武汉高一月考)Livestreaming (直播) through channels
such as Amazon Live and QVC is an increasingly popular way to sell
goods online. It usually lasts between 5 and 10 minutes, and someone
promotes a product.Viewers can then readily buy it by clicking on a link.
We analyzed (分析) 99,451 sales cases on a livestream selling
platform and matched them with actual sales cases. In terms of time, that
is equal to over 2 million 30-second television advertisements.
To determine the emotional (情绪的) expression of the
salesperson, we used two deep learning models: a face model and an
emotion model. The face model discovers the presence or absence of a face
in a frame of a video stream. The emotion model then determines the
probability that a face is exhibiting any of the six basic human emotions:
happiness, sadness, surprise, anger, fear or disgust. For example,
smile signals a high probability of happiness, while an off-putting
expression usually points toward anger.
We wanted to see the effect of emotions expressed at different times
in the sales cases so we counted probabilities for each emotion for all 62
million frames in our database. We then combined these probabilities with
other possible aspects that might drive sales — such as price and product
characteristics — to judge the effect of emotion.
We found that, perhaps unsurprisingly, when salespeople show
more negative emotions — such as anger and disgust — the volume of
sales went down. But we also found that a similar thing happened when the
salespeople show high levels of positive emotions, such as happiness or
surprise.
A likely explanation, based on our research, is that a smile can be
disgusting because it lacks true feelings and can reduce trust in the seller.A
seller’s happiness may be taken as a sign that the seller is gaining
interests at the customer’s expense.

  (2025·武汉高一月考)When Mike was a seven-year-old kid, his
parents usually didn’t give him money because he liked to buy junk
food. They knew such food would be harmful to kids’ bodies.
But one day Mike strongly wished to buy such food.He knew he
couldn’t persuade his parents to give him money to buy it, so he was
upset. At noon that day, his mom was having a nap in the bedroom while
his dad was working out of the home.Mike suddenly found his mom’s
wallet on the sofa in the living room.Usually, his mom would put the
wallet close to her — not this time.
Mike found a good chance to get money. He thought he could secretly
take some from his mom’s wallet without letting her discover it.Then,
he slowly walked towards the wallet and opened it.There was lots of
money.Mike took a few coins and walked out of the house, going
directly to a store in his community.
He bought a bag of food that was very peppery and a bottle of iced
Coca-cola.Instead of returning home, he hung around outside to enjoy
the food and the drink in case his mom discovered it.When he opened the
food bag, a strong, hot and sweet smell rushed into his nose.He tasted
some: it was delicious. But it was too hot and his mouth seemed to be on
fire. However, he didn’t take notice of it.Minutes later, he ate up the
bag of junk food and finished the drink. Then he returned home. His mom
was still sleeping.
In the afternoon that day, Mike began to feel uncomfortable and
wanted to vomit. He felt pain in his stomach. At first, he could stand
it.However, finally, he couldn’t bear it anymore and told his mom

She hurried to drive him to the hospital. On the way, Mike threw up
badly.Seeing this, his mom realised something. But at that time Mike

body, the doctor comforted them, saying that they didn’t need to be
worried. After getting some medicine, Mike returned home with his
mom.Mike took the medicine, and then he felt better.
Mike realised he should admit what he had done.So he told his mom
the truth.Hearing it, his mom didn’t seem angry.Instead, she
patiently explained to Mike why his behavior was wrong. She told him,
“You can ask for it if you really want to eat junk food. But you
shouldn’t steal money. You should tell the truth.” That day, Mike
learned a big lesson and understood the importance of being honest.
