(Text 1)
W:Mr White, I need your help. I can’t understand this maths
problem.
M:It’s not difficult, Linda. I’ll be happy to explain it to you.
(Text 2)
M:After two weeks of tennis lessons, I think I’ve finally managed to
improve my game.
W:Like my mom says,“Practice makes perfect.”
(Text 3)
W:You know so much about old movies. I’ll bet you saw a lot of
movies when you were a kid.
M:Not as many as you might think.
(Text 4)
W:Look at this picture, Peter.
M:That’s a nice picture, Ann. Who painted it?
W:I painted it myself. Nobody helped me.
M:Oh, you are a great artist!
(Text 5)
W:There are still so many things to do to prepare for the festival, such
as shopping and cleaning.
M:I will help you after I finish my homework.
W:OK. I will go shopping, and then we can work on cleaning the
house together.
M:Good idea!
(Text 6)
M:Do you have any tables?
W:Yes, we’ve got plenty of tables in stock. Take a look at this one.
M:It’s a nice color, and the style is not too bad, but it is a bit too
small.
W:How about this one?
M:Mm.I like it. How much is it?
W:70 dollars.
M:OK. Here is the money. Could you deliver it to my house?
W:Of course. We are always at your service.
M:Here is my business card. Thanks.
W:You are welcome.
(Text 7)
M:Hi, Jane.
W:Hi! How are you doing?
M:Oh, not bad. Hey, I was just wondering whether you’d like to go
swimming with me this Saturday afternoon.
W:Oh, I’d like to, but I’m afraid I can’t. I have to attend a
meeting.
M:Oh, that’s too bad.
W:But I’m free in the evening.
M:Would you like to go out and dance?
W:That’s a good idea.
M:Great! What about going somewhere for dinner first?
W:Why not? Where shall I meet you?
M:Why not let me pick you up at your house?
W:OK. What time?
M:Seven o’clock. OK?
W:Fine. Well, see you then.
(Text 8)
W:Hi, Tom. Did you have a nice holiday?
M:Yes, couldn’t have been better. Thank you.
W:Where did you go during the holidays?
M:I went to Scotland.
W:Did you go there alone?
M:No. I went there with my parents. We travelled around in Scotland.
We spent a week in Edinburgh, and then went to St.Andrews.
W:I heard that the highlands area is a very good place to see. Did you go
up there?
M:No. We stayed at a hotel for a few days and came back to London.
W:How was the weather when you were there?
M:Quite good. And everybody was very kind. People aren’t in such a
hurry up there, you know.
W:You must have enjoyed your holidays.
M:I sure did.
(Text 9)
W:You know, Paul, I really like my neighbourhood, but I’ve got a
new job far from there, so I’m going to have to move here.
M:It’ll be OK. You’ll find a nice place here.
W:I’m not so sure. The area I’m in now is a great place to live. It’s
got a lot of good shops, and the people are very friendly. It’s got some
excellent cafés, too.
M:Any good restaurants?
W:There is a restaurant, but it’s terrible. I never eat there. The best
thing is the sports center near my apartment.
M:Oh. I didn’t know you like sports.
W:Yeah. I play table tennis there. One bad thing is all the cars.
Everybody uses the big car park next to the sports center. So the roads
around here have too many cars on them. Another problem is that there
isn’t a cinema. It’s not a big problem because there are good buses,
so I can go to the cinema in the city center.
M:Well, I know you like this neighbourhood, but I’m sure you’ll
find a good place near your new job. Don’t worry!
(Text 10)
The most wonderful experience I’ve ever had was a trip I took to
China a few years ago. I really can’t describe it. We spent three weeks
travelling around China. We visited Beijing, Shanghai, Xi’an and
several other places. It really was the most unusual holiday I’ve ever
had. You know, the further we travelled into the center of China, the
more I liked it, meeting people who’d never seen foreign tourists
before. Then we spent our last week in Hong Kong, which I think is very
different from Beijing. It’s the noisiest and busiest place I’ve ever
seen. We didn’t find Hong Kong very relaxing at all. And the other problem was the people on tour with us — they were so unfriendly. Anyway, the trip itself was interesting. I can’t wait to do it again!

dolls. When she was six, she needed them more than ever: She had to
go through brain-cancer operations and MRI scans (核磁共振扫描),
but she couldn’t take her favourite dolls with her into the MRI machine
because they had metal in them.
So Cecily and her mom — a home-schooler of seven kids and a
professional doll maker made a special doll, using weighted glass and
other MRI-safe materials, that could stay with Cecily during the long
imaging appointments.
The doll was also unique in that it had no facial features.“That’s
so they can have any emotion,” says Cecily, who was inspired to
create these dolls, called “Blessing Babies”, for other sick kids. She
and her mom began making more, donating some to children’s
hospitals and selling others to fundraise.
Soon, doll makers worldwide also began contributing, sending
boxes of their handmade dolls to support the cause.Cecily began selling
handmade plush puppies and inspirational clothing patches (徽章), in
addition to running and fundraisers for various
charities.Including money and gift donations, Cecily has raised more
than $200,000 so far.

(2025·云南师大附中高一教学测评)Many believe that only
humans can truly create art.But as technology rapidly advances,
there’s a growing debate over whether AI-generated art should be
respected just as highly.Just last week, on 7 November, a portrait of
mathematician Alan Turing became the first artwork created by a
humanoid robot to be sold at auction (拍卖), getting $1.08 million at
Sotheby’s, New York.
The portrait of Turing, titled A. I. God, was created by Ai-Da,
an AI-powered robot introduced in 2019 by British art specialist Aidan
Meller.Ai-Da, named after Ada Lovelace who was thought to be the
world’s first computer programmer, is regarded as “the-first-ultra-
realistic humanoid AI robot artist”.The work honors Alan Turing, the
pioneering mathematician whose work laid the foundation for modern
computing and artificial intelligence.
Although A. I. God was first expected to get up to $180, 000, a
series of 27 bids (投标) drove the price over $1 million.Sotheby’s
said in a statement, “Today’s record-breaking sale price marks a
moment in the history of modern and contemporary art and reflects the
growing communication between AI technology and the global art
market.”
The robot Ai-Da first came up with the idea to create A. I. God
during a discussion about “AI for good” with others in her studio. She
then decided on the style, color, and tone of the portrait. Then she used
the cameras in her eyes to process an image of Alan Turing as a
reference. With her robotic hand, Ai-Da then painted on a small canvas,
and the completed image was later enlarged using a printer.
A. I. God was exhibited in 2024 at the UN during the AI for Good
Global Summit in Geneva.Alongside her portrait of Turing, the
exhibition included a self-portrait of Ai-Da herself and a painting of Ada
Lovelace.Ai-Da, who uses AI to speak, said her art invites viewers to
think about the God-like nature of AI while considering the ethical and
social influence of these advances.

(2025·西安高一检测)All my life, I had been very confident
about my choices and dreams.I never thought this would happen out of
nowhere. After taking one of the entrance tests for Doctor of Medicine, I
thought I had failed. But when the result came, I saw my name on the
list.I was overjoyed.I still remember how happy my parents and uncle
were.We received many congratulations, which made the moment
unforgettable.
The admission period came, and my rank was not high enough for a
free college. In addition, the real challenge was the financial aspect (经
济方面).I had to accept the reality of the high costs for higher
education. After careful thinking, I asked my father not to pay any money
for my college education, because I thought it might be better to struggle
for another year to secure a free spot than to see my family struggle
financially.Indeed, I had mixed feelings then.I was happy that at least I
was on the list, but at the same time, I was sad that I would miss the
chance to go to college this year.
“Son, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance.Do you really want to give
up this chance?” my father said seriously.I looked into his eyes,
seeing the struggle within him.“I don’t want to, but I don’t want
you to pay so much money, Dad.I can wait and try again next year,” I
said.He added softly but firmly,“No, we’ll find a way,
somehow.”
I remembered my parents’ hard work. They left early and returned
late, supporting the whole family.Their hard work inspired me.I didn’t
want them to worry about my tuition (学费).Life’s challenges made
me stronger.I believed I could achieve my goal with effort.
注意:(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式作答。
However, I was about to give up hope when my uncle came.
With the timely support of my family, I finally received the admission call.
参考范文:
However, I was about to give up hope when my uncle came.He
entered with a determined look, holding an envelope.“I’ve managed
to secure a sum of money for you,” he announced.Moved by my
uncle’s gesture, my father said,“Your uncle and I will do whatever it
takes to see you through this.Your education is important, and we
won’t let anything stand in your way.” I felt a sense of gratitude and
relief. It was as if a weight had been lifted from my shoulders.I could see a
path forward to my college life.
With the timely support of my family, I finally received the
admission call.“This is your chance,” my father said, handing me
the phone.I accepted the offer, knowing I carried the support of my
family. It was a victory not just for me, but for the strength of our
bond. After hanging up, I looked around at my family. They let out a sigh
of relief.“We did it,” my uncle said proudly. Then I knew that no
matter what challenges life threw at us, we would overcome them,
united by the unbreakable ties of family and the power of love.
