M:Good evening, everybody. I’m George. I’m so glad that for today’s programme, we have J.K. Rowling to share with us how she became a famous writer. Let’s welcome her.
W:Hi, everybody. I’m J.K. Rowling. I’m so glad to be here. Actually, I began writing stories at the age of six and always daydreamed of becoming a writer. In 1990, when I was stuck for four hours on a train, I dreamt of a boy called “Harry Potter”. Before I started to write about Harry Potter, my husband left me and our three-month-old daughter. So I decided to start writing novels to have a new life and wrote my first Harry Potter novel. I sent my novel to a lot of publishing houses. They doubted my writing skills and rejected me. This went on until the year 1996, when the Bloomsbury publishing house agreed to help me. In 1997, Harry Potter was published, and the character soon became one of children’s most favorite characters. We had to print more copies several times. In 1998, in the month of February, my very first novel was awarded the British Book Award for “Children’s Book of the Year”.

When my wife, Cathy, and I first moved into our house with a lovely pool in the foothills of Monrovia, California, in November 2022, we knew there was something unusual about the place.
On our first visit to the house, we saw a family of American black bears walking through the backyard. At first, I was a little afraid as I hadn’t been around bears before, and thought of the online videos of bears entering people’s homes and stealing food. But we liked the house so much that we decided to learn to live alongside them.
Cathy and I both like animals, but neither of us was a wildlife lover before we moved here.
Many bears visit our yard — they appear around four or five times a week. But Maddie is the most distinctive (特别的). She is recognizable not only from her size — she is a little smaller than the adult males — but also from her behavior. While other bears will turn around when they see people, Maddie will do the opposite. She watches us while we’re eating. She will press her nose up to the window next to the dining table. We think she’s a sweetheart, as long as we keep a safe distance (距离).
By the beginning of this year, we hadn’t seen Maddie for a few months. We were curious and worried.
Then, one Monday at the beginning of May, I had just arrived home and sat down to eat when I felt eyes on me, and, sure enough, when I turned around, Maddie was there at the window. The moment I saw her, I was ecstatic and walked over to have a closer look. To my surprise, I saw two tiny cubs (幼崽). Maddie must have given birth.
I picked up my phone and started filming the three of them, capturing (拍摄) Maddie walking towards the pool with her babies. Then I sent the video to Cathy to tell her the good news.

(2025·淄博高一期末)For generations of children, going to the circus (马戏团) has been one of the greatest experiences of their young lives.Amazing performers and impressive animal shows used to be the standards of what makes a good circus show. But with the rise of animal rights groups and growing awareness of the bitter lives that circus animals lead, more countries around the world have passed laws to ban the use of animals in recent years. So far, a total of 26 countries have gone with the times by introducing bans on using animals in shows.
One German circus has found the next reasonable step and introduced a breathtaking holographic (全息影的) show that combines modern technology with the traditional circus atmosphere.Circus Roncalli, which has been touring since 1976, banned the use of wild animals in its shows in the 1990s, long before others began to take similar steps.Since then, Roncalli has used only household horses, but recently decided to stop using any live animals altogether.
“We decided to stop using animals for their benefit,” said Markus Strobl, the media director of Circus Roncalli, in a 2017 interview with RP Online.“Most of the performances in the show would already be done by the artists today. The focus of the Circus Roncalli is on poetic performances. The holographic projections are large enough to fill the entire circus field, measuring 105 feet wide and 16 feet deep, offering 360° visibility for the entire audience.”
Thanks to modern technology, it’s never been a better time for circuses around the world to end the use of live animals and embrace the future.Circus Roncalli is undoubtedly a big step ahead of the game.In fact, their use of 3D holograms of animals — such as elephants, horses, and even goldfish — has already attracted hundreds of thousands of viewers, making it clear that the future of the circus is here.

A.A New Age of Animal Care
B.The Fall of Traditional Circuses

(2025·烟台高一期末)As the clothing industries face environmental challenges, more and more designers are exploring new ways to diminish their carbon footprint.Zsofia Kollar, the founder of Human Material Loop, is turning to an unexpected resource — human hair — to lower the effect. She collects hair cuttings from hairdressers and transforms them into fabric (布料) for clothes and home decorations.
Most people laugh at her unusual behavior. But Kollar still wants to have a try.“Throughout history, we’ve made full use of a variety of animal fibers (纤维) in textiles (纺织品), yet our own hair often gets ignored,” Kollar says.“Why not treat human hair as another valuable textile fiber?”
Human hair as a biomaterial for clothing makes perfect sense to Kollar. It’s a wonderful fiber and has extremely high performing abilities. It’s very lightweight but fairly strong. The combined hair of a head could support the weight of two elephants.Nobody feels uncomfortable with hair, which is an important aspect when developing it for the clothing market.
The production process of the cut hair involves treating it with harmless chemicals. These chemicals help clean the hair and reduce its hardness.Kollar says the resulting material can be dyed any color, except white, and be made into fabric that feels soft and comfortable. Moreover, the fabric could serve as a replacement for natural materials like cotton, whose production requires a lot of water and harmful chemicals.“Waste hair doesn’t harm any soil, need any harmful chemicals, pollute any water, or produce any greenhouse gas,” Kollar points out.
Human Material Loop, which was founded in 2021, is still in its early stages. So far, the hair fabric has only been used to create simple types of clothing. But Kollar has partnered with a high-end fashion company to make a few of her clothes later in 2025.The designer’s ultimate dream is to transform twenty-five percent of global hair-salon waste — 550,000 tons of human hair — into fabric annually by 2034.

(2025·武汉部分重点中学高一检测)Many animals move from one place to another at certain times of the year. This annual movement is called migration.36.( ) One of the most wonderful migrations in nature is that of the North American monarch butterfly.
Every autumn, millions of these beautiful insects with fine black and orange wings begin a long and difficult journey.Somehow they manage to travel around 4,000 kilometres south and find their way to California or Mexico.37.( )
A team of scientists led by Professor Eli Shlizerman at the University of Washington has now found the answer.38.( ) It uses its eyes to measure the position of the sun. These two pieces of information — the time of day and the point where the sun is in the sky — allow the butterfly to determine the way to go.Eventually, it manages to reach the places where it will spend the winter.
39.( ) Its population has crashed by as much as 90 percent in the last few years.Sadly, human activity is the main reason why the number of monarch butterflies is falling. In many of the places where the butterfly can be found, people are destroying the natural environment. They cut down trees and use chemicals that kill the plants that monarch caterpillars (毛虫) eat.
40.( ) People have been working together to record its migration and make sure that there are enough plants for it to feed on.If this works, there may come a time when the number of monarch butterflies increases once again. The more we know about this lovely creature, the greater the chance it will survive and keep its place in the natural world for a long time to come.
A.However, until recently no one knew how they did this.
B.They have found out that the monarch is able to tell the time of day.
C.They migrate to find food, seek a partner, or in search of warmer weather.
D.In recent years it has become ever more apparent that monarch butterflies are in rapid decline.

(2025·河北高一期末)On 15 September, 1752 twelve-year-old Lewis Hallam Jr.stood shaking on the stage, his heart beating fast in his chest.Born in a family that worked in the theater, with his mother an actress and his father the manager of their theater company, Lewis had never before faced an audience.
The theater, once a well-known place during the day, now seemed strange and scary, with the walls moving in the light from the hanging lamps, and the air full of the smells of smoke, and the press of the crowd, all eyes focused on him.
The Hallam family’s theater company had made the journey from England to America earlier that year, and tonight’s performance of Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice marked their first show in this new world.Lewis was clearly aware of the importance of this play; their jobs in the future depended on how well this show did.
His father, a clever manager, thought that both Lewis and his big sister should be given roles in the play because people often clapped (鼓掌) for kids, even if they weren’t great at acting. This was called the “clap trick”.His sister had already done her part and people liked it a lot, and now it was Lewis’s turn.
He was to play a helper to Portia, the main girl in the play, with a single line to say.His mom was playing Portia, so he simply had to walk up to her as she handed him a letter and said,“Madam, I go with all convenient speed.”
As Lewis stood in the bright light, scared, his mom smiled at him.She held out the letter and said, “But get thee gone.I shall be there before thee.” It was his time to talk.He must speak now.He looked at the audience, his tongue feeling heavy in his mouth. Then, without saying anything, he started crying and ran off the stage.
注意:(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式作答。
Backstage, Lewis was hugged by his worried yet supportive father.

As Lewis returned to the stage, his mother offered an encouraging nod to him.

参考范文:
Backstage, Lewis was hugged by his worried yet supportive father. He wiped away Lewis’s tears and said, “You can do this, son, the stage is just a place for storytelling. It’s alright to feel fearful, but remember, we are always here supporting you.” Lewis saw not just the manager of a theater company, but a father believing in his son.His words gave Lewis comfort and courage.Taking a deep breath, Lewis felt a sense of bravery building up inside him and decided to face his fears.
As Lewis returned to the stage, his mother offered an encouraging nod to him. The audience, once impatient, fell silent, their focus entirely on Lewis. His mother, still in her role, repeated her lines. This time, Lewis locked eyes with her, with his father’s words in his mind.He accepted the letter and his voice rang out clearly and powerfully. As he spoke, the audience burst into loud applause.Lewis overcame his fear and became a true performer. That night marked more than a successful performance; it celebrated the theme of belief and courage in facing one’s fear.

A.She is bigger than the adult males.
B.She visits the author’s yard more often.
C.She is not afraid of the author and his wife.
D.She does not get along well with other adult females.
26.What made the author worried at the beginning of this year?( )
A.Maddie’s poor health. B.Maddie’s disappearance.
C.Maddie’s separation from her babies. D.Maddie’s failure to find enough food.

28.What led to stopping animal shows?( )

C.Disagreements from performers. D.Views on good circus shows.
29.From Markus Strobl’s words, we know that the holographic show .( )

C.Indifferent. D.Opposed.
31.What can be a suitable title for the text?( )
A.A New Age of Animal Care B.The Fall of Traditional Circuses

A.Put aside. B.Hold onto.

E.The research on the monarch’s behavior has however led to a greater awareness of this creature.
F.The solution to the mystery of the monarch’s amazing ability comes at a time when it is in serious trouble.
G.The entire journey happens in a few weeks as monarchs flock to the sky for their unbelievable migration.

注意:(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式作答。
Backstage, Lewis was hugged by his worried yet supportive father.

As Lewis returned to the stage, his mother offered an encouraging nod to him.
