(2024·日照高一期中)One Moore Elementary School teacher is showing students the importance of communication through “shout-outs”.
[过能力 综合提升]
The third-grade teacher Lindsey Winders said a shout-out is a compliment (称赞) that students can say or write down. “Like, ‘Hey, I noticed you doing a really great job solving your maths problems yesterday. I wanted to make sure you know that I saw you do that,’” Winders said.
Winders said she makes sure she is giving shout-outs to her students every day. “I might write them a sticky note, or write them a quick little note in their planner. I might just say it to them on their way into the classroom or on their way out of the classroom. But most importantly, I try to do it every day,” Winders said.
In addition to the compliments, Winders has the students greet each other every morning during the morning meeting. She will have students give examples to the class of how to communicate in different settings (场景). A third-grade student Nayelli Moranchel said she had given at least six shout-outs this year. “It makes me happy, because they always write something back,” Moranchel said.
Recently, Winders took it one step further and wrote a personalised note on each of her students' desks. “In our classroom, sometimes it can be challenging for me to give a compliment or a shout-out to each and every one of them in a way that is equal and valuable at the same time. So I think that there is no better way than leaving a note on their desks that can stay for as long as they want it to,” Winders said.
Winders said it is encouraging when she sees her students copy the act and give each other compliments without her guidance.

(2024·青岛五十八中高一期末)Towards the end of high school, one of my best friends and I had a fight. She told me I had no common sense, and I replied that she was childish. In a matter of minutes, we went from inseparable to very distant.
We didn't speak for most of our senior year. We both found other friends, avoiding each other like the plague(瘟疫). A few months after graduation, I learned that she was having some trouble. I sent her a message: “I'm still here, if you ever need me.” She replied shortly after. We reunited, and thus ended our friendship break.
Friendship breakups aren't all that uncommon. People fight and grow apart. But a friendship break is a different story. While it is often healthy, sometimes it is also tough to control. Sometimes, like in my case, it happens suddenly and with no intention of reuniting. In other situations, it is more of a slow burn.
Katie, 33, says she broke up with her best college friend after a few tense exchanges, like when the friend pressured Katie—then a graduate student on a tight budget—to go on an international trip. “We had probably been friends for ten years at the time of the break,” Katie says. “I felt that the relationship had stopped being enjoyable.” For four years, she and her friend sent only the occasional
text messages. Then, a year and a half ago, the two women happened to move to the same town. “She asked whether I would like to meet,” Katie says, “and we took it slowly, speaking on the phone and going for lunch and a few nights out.”
Once you reconnect, you may find that your friendship is totally different, for better or for worse. “A friendship break allows both friends to reassess the situation and see if they miss each other during the cooling-off period,” says sociologist Jan Yager. “When they do reconnect, it might be with a new perspective.”
