W: Well, as you can see, we have some great facilities. Here are the basketball courts. Then just behind them, you’
ll see the football field and the swimming pool.
M: Wow! There wasn’t room for anything like this at my previous school. I was on the swimming team, but we had
to travel to use the city pool for our practices.
W: Well, we’ve certainly got plenty of space. We also have a music studio and our own theater.
M: Amazing!
W: So, where would you like to go first
M: Well, I’m quite interested to see the science facilities. I’m hoping for a career in medicine.
W: Okay, great! Well, the laboratories have all been updated recently, so we’ve got some really good equipment.

club. This year, we’ve been invited to take part in a national science exhibition. It’ll be in the city’s exhibition hall
from Dec. 25 to 31. This exhibition is a wonderful chance for students to show their scientific research and creative
projects.
Our club has been working hard on some projects in the past few months. One of our projects is about
protecting the environment. We’re looking for ways to cut down on plastic waste in daily life. To get ready for the

Badminton VS skipping rope
As for which sport is suitable for the break-time, I strongly recommend badminton as the ideal break-time
activity over skipping rope. My choice is based on several key advantages.
Firstly, badminton fosters valuable social interaction. It requires a partner, encouraging students to play
together, communicate, and build teamwork during the short break, turning exercise into a shared, enjoyable social
experience. Secondly, badminton is highly adaptable. You don’t need a full court; any small open space, even a
hallway, suffices for a quick rally. It offers fun, fitness, and friendship efficiently within the break-time limit.

72. The lady happened to be the owner of a clothing store that sewed clothes. Touched by Rita’s honesty and
kindness she immediately offered to help. She led Rita into her clothing store, where the air was filled with the
scent of fresh fabric and creativity. The lady called in her most skilled tailor and, on Rita’s advice, worked out a
plan to transform the old dress. They added delicate lace to the hems, extended the skirts to the right length, and
sewed on sparkling diamonds that shone in the light.
When Rita saw the altered dress, her eyes flew wide open. This once too short dress was transformed into an
elegant outfit complete with delicate lace and vibrant colors. She could hardly believe it was the same one she had
almost given up on. The lady smiled at her, handing the dress over. “It’s a gift,” she said softly. “A little kindness
goes a long way.” Rita could only nod, her heart swelling with gratitude. Next day, Rita went to Kathryn’s birthday
party with her head held high, and the story of the magical dress inspired her with the power of kindness.高一英语期末

A popular short video series titled “Escape From the British Museum” has attracted millions of viewers and

Chinese journalist named Zhang Yong’an in the United Kingdom and begs him to take her back to China. Upon
returning home, she not only travels across the country but also carries “letters” written by other artifacts in the
museum to their respective families in China.
Inspiration for the series came from a netizen’s suggestion to create a cartoon series where artifacts come to
life and return home for Chinese New Year. Zhang turned this idea into a video and spent three months researching
the British Museum and crafting the storyline.
The videos have deeply moved netizens, with scenes like “writing brushstrokes(笔画) on English newspapers”
and intense dialogues among the artifacts striking a chord. Many netizens expressed their desire for cultural
artifacts overseas to return home with dignity and honor.
The British Museum houses about 23,000 Chinese artifacts from the Neolithic Age to the present. These
include paintings, prints, jades, bronzeware and so on. Some artifacts were collected during periods of unrest in
China between the late 19th and early 20th centuries when British forces invaded Beijing twice.
The jade teapot featured in the video series is not a traditional cultural relic but created by Chinese modern
jade artist Yu Ting. Yu expressed satisfaction with the. attention his work has received among young people and the
enthusiasm for traditional culture shown through numerous comments. On the release of the video series, the
British Museum announced the loss of several items, including gold jewelry and gems, believed stolen or damaged.
The creator of the series, Zhang Jiajun, expressed gratitude for the love the series has received and hopes that
more attention would be paid to the issue of cultural relics located overseas.

It was 3:30 in the morning. I was holding my baby, scrolling through eBay and feeling groggy(昏昏沉沉的). I
had a brief out-of-body experience, seeing myself as an outsider. There was my baby, gazing up at me, and there
was me, looking down at my phone. I was horrified. It was then that I decided to “break up” with my phone and set
better boundaries.
Our most time-sucking apps are designed to grab our attention because that’s how their creators make money.
These apps are part of the “attention economy”, where our attention and data are sold. We are not the customers of
these apps; advertisers are. We are the product, tricked into giving our most valuable asset(资产)—our attention—
away for free.
We only experience what we pay attention to; we only remember what we pay attention to. Sure, there are
many reasons to pay attention to our phones. But like time, our attention is limited: Every minute spent scrolling is
a minute not spent on something else.
App makers use psychological tricks from gambling. These tricks control the release of dopamine(多巴胺), a
chemical that motivates us to repeat behaviors. This system doesn’t distinguish between good and bad behaviors—
it just encourages repetition. Phones and apps are packed with dopamine triggers. Bright colors, novelty,
unpredictability, and rewards like social approval are all dopamine triggers. This is why social media, news, email,
games and shopping apps are so addictive.
If we don’t recognize what is happening and fight back, we risk becoming like lab rats trained to press a lever(
控制杆) for food. One of the first steps I took was to minimize my exposure to dopamine triggers by turning off
most notifications(通知), hiding or deleting my most time-sucking apps, and turning my phone’s screen to black
and white. I also banned my phone from my bedroom and the dining table and charged it in a closet at night.
My relationship with my phone still isn’t perfect—no relationship ever is. But it has improved in ways I never
would have anticipated.
28. Why did the author decide to “break up” with her phone
A. She needed more sleep.
B. She found apps too boring.
C. She wanted to reduce her spending on eBay.
第 7页/共 14页
D. She realized her attention was being guided unfairly.
29. Who are the real customers of apps in the “attention economy” according to the author
A. Phone users. B. Advertisers.
C. App creators. D. Data analysts.
30. How do app makers make their apps addictive
A. By limiting user choices.
B. By targeting dopamine triggers.
C. By providing useful content.
D. By offering various rewards.
31. What does the author want to convey in this article
A. Breaking up with your phone is easy.
B Phones are designed to be addictive.
C. Don’t let your phone steal your attention.
D. More time should be devoted to family.

“My instincts tell me this is Opung’s faeces(粪便),” said Nayla Azmi as she studied the clump of hair, broken
egg shells and bones while out in the forest. In the local Batak language, “Opung” means grandparent and is used to
refer to tigers. The Batak people, Indigenous(土生土长的) to Sumatra in Indonesia, have legends about ancestors
making friends with tigers.
Azmi, 35, is part of an all-women Indigenous patrol team, theNuraga Bhumi Institute, founded in 2021. Their
job is to help Gunung Leuser National Park (GLNP) rangers protect 100 hectares of buffer zone territory.
The GLNP, established in 1980, protects almost 1. 1 million hectares of the 2. 6 millionhectare Leuser
ecosystem. However, with many unfenced borders and a shortage of rangers, it’s easy for poachers(偷猎者) or
palm oil companies to move onto the land. The Leuser ecosystem is the only place where tigers, elephants,
orangutans(猩 猩 ) and rhinos live together in the wild, but all are endangered due to poaching and habitat
destruction.
Azmi founded theNuraga Bhumi Institute, which operates near a tourist hot spot for wild orangutan encounters,
to address the gender imbalance and lack of Indigenous people in local preservation. “Only about 15 percent of
Sumatran environmentalists are women; the percentage of Indigenous women is probably less than half that,” says

Azmi.
The team members undergo practical training to conduct patrols effectively. They learn to use GPS, camera
traps and drones, identify and take apart poachers’ traps, and report findings to park authorities. The team also hosts
weekly protection education classes for local children.
As another day ends, they watch footage of a tiger. The team is delighted to know a tiger in their territory is
safe—for now.
32. How does the author introduce the topic
A. By sharing a local legend.
B. By introducing a key individual.
C. By discussing a traditional belief.
D. By describing an environmentalist’s fieldwork.
33. What can be inferred about the GLNP
A. It gives priority to the protection of tigers.
B. It cooperates with palm oil companies.
C. It struggles with illegal human activities.
D. It’s the only habitat for certain species.
34. Why did Azmi establish theNuraga Bhumi Institute
A. To enhance local wildlife research.
B. To support the growth of eco-tourism.
C. To promote inclusion in protection.
D. To assist the authorities in catching poachers.
35. What could be the best title for the article
A. TheNuraga Bhumi Institute’s Efforts
B. The Challenges Faced by Sumatran Wildlife
C. The Role of Women in Wildlife Protection
D. The Evolution of Gunung Leuser National Park

Rita, a young girl from a poor background, walked along the road with a frown ruining her usually cheerful
face. Tomorrow was her best friend Kathryn’s birthday, and Rita had no suitable dress for the celebration. Her
family had fallen on hard times since the closure of her father’s company, leaving them unable to afford new
clothes.
Deciding not to let this dampen her spirits, Rita chose an old dress that once held a special place in her heart.

As it was now too short, she hoped to have it altered (修改). With determination, she carried the dress to a local
tailor, only to be met with disappointment as the tailor explained that he could not take on any more alteration work
due to an increasing number of orders.
Holding the paper bag with her old dress inside, Rita felt a wave of uncertainty. “What am I to do ” she
wondered. Just then, her attention was drawn to a lady exiting a car and heading toward the bank. As the lady
hurriedly searched for some papers in her purse, her wallet slipped out unnoticed. Without hesitation, Rita rushed to
pick up the wallet and waited patiently on the steps outside the bank, despite the crowd and the time passing.
Finally, the lady emerged from the bank. When Rita returned the wallet, the lady was overwhelmed with
gratitude. The lady checked the contents and found everything was placed as they had been. She noticed the girl’s
face was covered with sadness. “What’s wrong with you, honey ” the lady asked.
