第一节 细节理解题
理解文章的具体信息是考生应该掌握的基本阅读理解能力。文章主题和中心思想的阐述往往需要大量细节信息的支持,考生要能够从文章中提取诸如数字,时间,地点,人物,事件的起因、过程、结果等细节信息。这些信息有的可直接从文章中获取,有的则需要进行简单归纳。细节理解题命题形式丰富,考查内容涉及多个角度,但都是对文中具体信息进行提问(如who,when,where,which,why,what,how many 和 how much 等),因而相对容易。
纵观近三年高考试题可以发现,细节理解题的难度呈增加趋势,具体表现为:正确选项与原文信息表达方式不同;大部分答案需要跨段落寻找;有时甚至需要考生梳理分析多个信息点(信息点在不同的段落)才能得出正确答案。

During 20 years of stacking (使码放在) shelves with goods at his family's supermarket in Pollenca on the Spanish island of Mallorca,José Luis-Reig,known as Pep,never gave a thought to the academic world. It was only when visiting the classrooms and passages of mainland universities with his two teenage daughters that he suddenly felt himself at home among the books and atmosphere of learning.
After school Pep had intended to get a degree in biology at the University of Barcelona but had been called on to help run the family business instead.
But the question of “What's my role in life?” still kept coming back to him.It wasn't until a year later that the answer suddenly struck him. When he was at school, other children would come to him with their problems. He developed a reputation and so was invited onto local radio, where the interviewer said,“You're like a young psychologist.”
Pep was no stranger to change. The family business had originally been a sawmill (锯木厂),but when Pep,then 27,was asked if he wanted to take over,he decided to transform the mill into the town's first supermarket.
One day in the shop, what the radio presenter said came back to him. After running the idea past his family,he applied to a university in Palma to study psychology and, aged 46,was accepted.
“I had to get used to being much older than all the other students,” he says.“In fact,I was older than my professor. But I believe disadvantages can always be advantages. And I ended up helping the others because I'd had more life experience that carries a psychological impact, which could reflect classroom theory.”
Pep came top of his year and impressed his tutors so much that he was offered a job researching and teaching, which he still does while studying for a master's in neuropsychology. Now 52,and still in the job,he adds,“My only regret is not having done it earlier.”

Most teenagers kill time playing video games,or surfing social media. But it's not so for William Gadoury,a 14-year-old from Quebec.William Gadoury has been crazy about the Mayans for most of his childhood, ever since his grandparents bought him books about the civilization. What started as a hobby at age 12 snowballed into serious research, and he theorized that the locations of Mayan cities might correspond to stars in Mayan constellations(星座).
Using ancient books,Gadoury analyzed 22 Mayan constellation maps and covered the positions onto HERE WeGo images of the Yucatán Peninsula, which to this day is home to large local populations and some best-preserved architecture from Mayan culture. He would track the constellations from HERE WeGo using special sheets, covering them onto the position of Mayan cities on a paper map.The teen was able to show that 117 Mayan cities matched up with the position of the stars, with the brightest stars representing bigger cities.
But when Gadoury was working on the 23rd Mayan constellation,he found a conflict:three stars, but only two ancient cities on HERE WeGo.The third star pointed to a location on the Mexico-Belize border. However, the area was covered with thick jungle, leaving Gadoury stuck.
Luckily,he asked Canadian Space Agency(CSA) for images from their RADARSAT-2 satellite.Indeed, there was a square,man-made-looking structure in the heavy forest.Gadoury then learned a fire had swept across the region, thinning out the grass cover. He found images from the agency, and eventually concluded that there was indeed a city there.
Gadoury's findings eventually took him into the jungle in 2022 to search on foot, along with scientist Francisco Estrada-Belli.The team discovered a farming village deep in the Mexican jungle, which showed the“backbone” of the Maya's long-term success, which was down to their ability to work the land and support large cities.

When learning a foreign language, most people fall back on traditional methods:reading, writing, listening and repeating. But Brian Mathias' research team found out that if you gesture with your arms while studying, you can remember the vocabulary better, even months later.
As Mathias describes, they had 22 German-speaking adults learn a total of 90 invented artificial words over four days. While the test subjects first heard the new vocabulary, they were shown a video of a person making a gesture that matched the meaning of the word. When the word was repeated, the subjects performed the gesture themselves.Five months later, they were asked to translate the vocabulary they had learned into German. Those who performed better on the task showed the higher level of activity in their motor cortex—the part of the brain that is responsible for our body movements. The researchers concluded that the motor cortex contributed to the translation of the vocabulary learned with gestures. The effect did not occur when the subjects were only presented with matching pictures instead of gestures.
Another research group led by Leipzig had young adults and eight-year-old children listen to new vocabulary for five days, paired with matching pictures or videos of gestures. After two months, the two methods were still tied. But after six months, the adults benefited more from the gestures than the pictures, while the children were helped equally by both.
But it is not only the motor component itself that promotes learning. The meaning conveyed by the gesture also figures in.“I think we underuse gesture in our classrooms,” Susan Goldin-Meadow says. “Good teachers and good listeners use it,but not always in a systematic way.Others don't necessarily bring it into the class—and it could be used more often and more effectively.”
【语篇解读】 本文是一篇说明文。研究表明学习外语的时候做手势有助于更好更久地记忆单词。
5.What is the finding of Brian Mathias' research
A.Translation helps vocabulary building.
B.Motor cortex interprets body language.
C.Gestures facilitate vocabulary learning.
D.Memory improves with regular practice.
解析:C 直接细节题。根据第一段中的“if you gesture with ...even months later”可知,Brian Mathias的研究发现是手势有助于词汇学习,故C项正确。facilitate“促使;促进”。
6.What does Leipzig's research tell us about language learning
A.Adults and children are equally efficient learners.
B.Pictures have little influence on language learning.
C.Pictures are found more helpful than videos for children.
D.Benefits of gestures are more evident in adults in the long run.
解析:D 综合细节题。根据第三段中的“after six months ...by both”可知,从长远来看,成人从手势当中的获益多于儿童,故D项正确。
7.What do the underlined words “figures in” in the last paragraph mean
A.Makes a deal. B.Plays a part.
C.Takes a chance. D.Gives a warning.
解析:B 词义猜测题。根据画线部分前面的“also”可知,画线部分与前面的动词“promotes”形成递进,结合句意“但促进学习的不仅仅是运动功能部分。手势所传达的意思也很重要”可知,B项“发挥作用”与画线部分的意义最为接近。
8.What does the author suggest teachers do in the classroom
A.Make better use of gestures.
B.Teach listening in a systematic way.
C.Abandon traditional teaching methods.
D.Do some academic researches on teaching.
解析:A 综合细节题。根据最后一段中的“I think we underuse gesture in our classrooms”以及“it could be used more often and more effectively”可知,作者建议老师在课堂上可以更好地利用手势,故A项正确。
