...
·Choose mindfully ...
·Get creative ...
·__39__ Minimize impact and maximize experience by skipping major holidays or rush hour. You'll compete with fewer tourists, save money, experience a different side of a popular place, and boost the economy when tourism is traditionally slower.
...
A.Visit during off-peak times.
C.Travel for you and no one else.
[分析] 空处为小标题,根据后文“Minimize impact and maximize experience by skipping major holidays or rush hour.”
[答案] ____
A
A successful swap depends on the selection of clothes, the organization of the event, and, obviously, how much fun is had. It's really easy to do! Here are a few pointers.
Invite 5-10 people so you have a nice selection.37.Less people than that, and there may not be enough things to choose from:more than that, and it becomes uncontrollable.
·__38__.They should also prepare plenty of reusable bags to carry their “new” clothes home.
·Put different types of clothing on different surfaces in the room ...
·Set a starting time.Maybe you say “go”,or turn on a certain song,or whatever ...
A.Less people than that
B.Hold a clothing swap
C.If two people are competing
D.Just keep music playing throughout
E.Donate whatever clothes are left over
F.Have everyone put their clothes in the right spots
G.Tell everyone to bring clean clothes in good condition
由于每段前都有实心圆点,因此可以初步判断每段的首句都是主旨句,并且都是祈使句,故此题的选择范围锁定在B、D、E、F、G项;再根据下文“They should also prepare plenty of reusable bags to carry their ‘new’ clothes home.”
[答案] ____
G
Written communications can often read as cold and dull.Using emojis can add humor and feeling, keeping intention clear.__37__,encouraging better and more frequent communication.
A.Messages with emojis feel more conversational
B.Even a formal email can seem cold and unfriendly
C.Sending smiling faces to colleagues may seem strange
D.The popularity of these platforms is spreading globally
E.Giving employees the tools enables them to communicate honestly
F.Studies show that friendlier communication leads to a happier workplace
G.An easy way to bring all work generations together is with a chat platform
[答案] ____
A
[典例] (2023·新课标Ⅰ卷)It's something of a cliché (陈词滥调) that most people learn not from their successes but their mistakes. The thing is,it's true.__40__ We're all changing and learning all the time and mistakes are a positive way to develop and grow.
A.A little self-forgiveness also goes a long way.
B.Now list all the characteristics you like about yourself.
C.They might even like to have a go at doing the exercise.
D.It's just as important to show yourself some forgiveness.
E.It doesn't mean you have to ignore what's happened or forget it.
F.Whatever it is,no matter how small it might seem, write it down.
G.Whatever the mistake, remember it isn't a fixed aspect of your personality.
[分析] 根据上文的“most people learn not from their successes but their mistakes”可知,人们从错误中汲取教训,结合下文“ We're all changing”可知,我们并不是一成不变的,G项(无论犯了什么错误,要记住,这并不是你性格中固有的一个方面)衔接上下文。
[答案] ____
G
Tricks To Becoming A Patient Person
...
Practice gratitude (感激)
Thankfulness has a lot of benefits:Research shows it makes us happier, less stressed and even more optimistic.__37__.“Showing thankfulness can foster self-control,”said Ye Li,researcher at the University of California.
A.Find your causes
B.Start with small tasks
C.Accept the uncomfortable
D.All this adds up to a state of hurry
E.It can also help us practice more patience
F.This is merely uncomfortable,not intolerable
G.They're all situations where we could use a little extra patience
[答案] ____
E
[典例] (全国Ⅰ卷)__40__ While the sun's rays can age and harm our skin, they also give us beneficial Vitamin D.To make sure you get enough Vitamin D —but still protect your skin—put on sunscreen right as you head outside. It takes sunscreen about fifteen minutes to start working, and that's plenty of time for your skin to absorb a day's worth of Vitamin D.
A.Fresh air cleans our lungs.
B.So what are you waiting for
C.Being in nature refreshes us.
D.Another side benefit of getting fresh air is sunlight.
E.But is fresh air really as good for you as your mother always said
F.Just as importantly,we tend to associate fresh air with health care.
G.All across the country, recovery centers have begun building Healing Gardens.
[答案] ____
D

[典例] (新高考Ⅰ卷)Parisians are different from you and me.They never look lazy or untidy. As someone noted in this paper a couple of weeks ago, they eat great food and never gain weight.__38__French strawberries do not taste like cardboard.Instead, they explode in your mouth like little flavor bombs.
A.Not all the customers are tourists.
B.The quality of life in France is equally excellent.
C.There was a nice kitchen and a comfortable bed.
D.The amazing food is mainly consumed by local farmers.

F.Our aim was to see if we could live,in some way, like real Parisians.
G.The food is so delicious that you don't need much of it to make you happy.
[答案] ____
G

·Invite 5-10 people so you have a nice selection.__37__,and there may not be enough things to choose from:more than that, and it becomes uncontrollable.
A.Less people than that
B.Hold a clothing swap
C.If two people are competing
D.Just keep music playing throughout
E.Donate whatever clothes are left over
F.Have everyone put their clothes in the right spots
G.Tell everyone to bring clean clothes in good condition
[分析] 空处与下文的“more than that ...” 选项A中的“that”指代前文的“5—10” people。
[答案] ____
A
According to Jessica Hagy, author of How to Be Interesting,it's not difficult to make yourself interesting at a dinner party.
__36__,if you're out of your comfort zone or if you're wandering into somebody's house for the first time.So the main thing is just to show up and be adventurous, trying different foods and talking to strangers.
People love to talk about themselves. If you can start the conversation with a question other than “What do you do for a living?”,you'll be able to get a lot more interesting conversation out of whomever it is you're talking to.__37__,it can bring in “I have this old,broken-down vehicle” or “I rode the bus with these crazy people who were laughing at silly jokes in the back.” It just opens up conversation.
A.How do you know the host
B.The first step is to go exploring
C.If you ask the question “How did you get here?”
D.Be prepared to have awkward conversations with strangers
36.[分析] 根据空后的句子“if you're out of your comfort zone ... for the first time”是由if引导的条件状语从句可知,此空应该填入一个主句;再由下文“be adventurous, trying different foods and talking to strangers”可知,本段告诉读者在晚宴上要勇于尝试,故B项“第一步是去探索”符合语境。
[答案] ____
B
37.[分析] 根据空后的标点符号和标点符号后的句子可推知,此空应该填入一个从句;再根据“‘I have this old,broken-down vehicle’ or ‘I rode ... in the back.’”
[答案] ____
C

So being interesting at a dinner party isn't that hard.
A.How do you know the host
B.The first step is to go exploring

E.Or turn the conversation into a topic where they have little to say
F.What about that person who has had too much to drink or won't stop talking
G.He or she is the person who is feeling the weight of that awkwardness the most
[答案] ____

E.Still others may simply enjoy being outdoors and close to plants
F.You can produce that kind of magical quality in your own garden, too
G.For each of those gardens, writer down the strongest memory you have
[分析] 根据空前的“but that's not what's important”可知,空处应讲什么重要;再根据破折号后面的内容“how being in those gardens made us feel”可知,空处内容应该是对“我们”的关于花园的体验的解释,故C项“我们的关于花园的体验很重要”符合语境。
[答案] ____
C

E.Or turn the conversation into a topic where they have little to say
F.What about that person who has had too much to drink or won't stop talking
G.He or she is the person who is feeling the weight of that awkwardness the most
[分析] 根据空后的标点符号可知,此空应该填入一个问句,选项中只有A和F是问句;再根据空后“If you can't take their wine away”中的“wine”可知,F选项中的“has had too much to drink”与之属于同一范畴的表达,因此F项“对于喝多了或者不停说话的人该怎么办”符合语境。
[答案] ____

What I'm starting to realize, however,is that when it comes to actually getting things done and making progress in the areas that are important to you, there is a much better way to do things. It all comes down to the difference between goals and systems.__2__ Your system is the writing schedule that you follow each week. Now for the really interesting question:If you completely ignored your goals and focused only on your system, would you still get results?I think you would.
__3__ In the last 12 months,I've written over 115,000 words. The typical book is about 50,000 to 60,000 words,so I have written enough to fill two books this year. All of this is such a surprise because I never set a goal for my writing.I didn't measure my progress in relation to some benchmark.__4__ I never said,“I want to write two books this year.”What I did focus on was writing one article every Monday and Thursday.I focused on my system and the process of doing the work. And after sticking to that schedule for 11 months, the result was 115,000 words. In the end,I enjoyed the same(or perhaps better)results.
Goals are good for planning your progress and systems are good for actually making progress.Goals can provide direction and even push you forward in the short term, but eventually a well-designed system will always win.Having a system is what matters.__5__
A.None of this is to say that goals are useless.
B.If you're a writer,your goal is to write a book.
C.Forget about predicting the future and build a system.
D.I never set a word count goal for any particular article.

Don't give up and just say“I don't know”either.
Advocate the person you are. It's OK to admit you have not yet acquired a specific skill or faced a certain problem.__5__Say something like“I don't know that yet,but I'm willing to learn that skill”,showing your willingness to learn new things.Redirect your answer and share how the skills you've gained in another capacity have prepared yourselves for the target opportunity.

Protect yourself from energy vampires
We all know those who suck the joy out of life and leave you feeling emotionally exhausted. They complain, blame others or just generally bring you down.__8__.Gently explaining the effect that they have may bring them around,or simply make sure you're always positive yourself in order to reduce the bad effect of their negativity.__9__,or eventually cut ties with them entirely.

Praise is like sunlight to the human spirit:We cannot flower and grow without it.And yet, while most of us are only too ready to apply the cold wind of criticism to others,we are somehow reluctant to give our fellows the warm sunshine of praise.
__6__Perhaps it's because few of us know how to accept compliments gracefully.Instead,we are embarrassed and shrug off the words we are really so glad to hear.Because of this defensive reaction, direct compliments are surprisingly difficult to give. That is why some of the most valued pats on the back are those which come to us indirectly.
It's especially rewarding to give praise in areas in which effort generally goes unnoticed or unmentioned.__7__A cook is praised for a perfect meal. But do you ever tell your laundry manager how pleased you are when the shirts are done just right?Do you ever praise your paperboy for getting the paper to you on time 365 days a year
Praise is particularly appreciated by those doing routine jobs:gas station attendants, waitresses—even housewives.__8__ Since so often praise is the only wage a housewife receives, surely she should get her measure.
__9__ It only takes a moment's thought and a moment's effort perhaps a quick phone call to pass on a compliment,or five minutes to write an appreciative letter. It is such a small investment and yet consider the results it may produce.__10__
So,let's be alert to the small excellence around us and comment on them.We will not only bring joy into other people's lives, but also, very often, add happiness into our own.
A.We are accustomed to accepting praise.
B.A student is ignored despite his good work.
C.To give praise costs the giver almost nothing.
D.It's strange how cautious we are about praising.

“A ship in the harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for,”said John Augustus Shedd,an early 20th century author.Throughout COVID-19,we've all become used to assessing risk in new ways. We've come to understand, though we can never get rid of risk altogether,we have great power to make choices both large and small to protect ourselves.__11__ It stops us from stepping outside of our comfort zones and trying new things.
Developmental psychologists talk about“positive risks”—socially acceptable risks that our lives can benefit from.__12__ But what about those who develop into adults?Researchers have found that happiness for older adults is being able to choose how they spend their time, including ways that are adventurous, new and even mildly risky, like hiking or other outdoor activities.
One guide to positive risk management lists ways that people can make sure their risks are on the “safe” side of the risk range. For example,to ensure a successful bike ride, you should in advance equip yourself with a fully-charged cell phone and a full water bottle.__13__Or if you are concerned about your physical capacity, consult a certified trainer or a medical professional before departure.
__14__This means adapting to changing situations. In response to the deadly virus, people choose to step back into normal life only after they are vaccinated. In this way, people could be confident that the risk is tolerable.
Nobody wants to be needlessly risky. But using our newly-acquired risk-assessment tools,we can once again learn and grow in our lives.__15__

B.But the self-protective mind state carries its own risk.
C.Overall happiness is one benefit of positive risk-taking.

12.解析:G 根据上文的“Developmental psychologists ...benefit from.”
