Words are important, but the way people stand, hold their arms, and move their hands can also give us information about their feelings.

Some body language has many different uses. Perhaps the best example is smiling. A smile can help us get through difficult situations and find friends in a world of strangers. A smile can break down barriers. We can use a smile to apologise, to greet someone, to ask for help, or to start a conversation. Experts suggest smiling at yourself in the mirror to make yourself feel happier and stronger. And if we are feeling down or lonely, there is nothing better than seeing the smiling face of a good friend.

Teaching procedures
Step1. Lead-in
Play a game:Ask one student to stand in the middle of the classroom and act like the person on the screen without speaking. Divide the class into two groups. Choose one student from each group to come to the platform to guess the meaning and say it in English. The group with most correct guess wins.
After the game, ask students how they guess the actor’s meaning and introduce the topic of the class.

Activity1: Make a prediction
Ask students to make a prediction based on the title and the picture. As for the title, ask students to read the title together and pay attention to the key words “how” “bodies talk”. Then, let students share their predictions by completing the following sentence: The passage might be about the _____________ we use_____________.
