Jane Eyre begins life as an unloved orphan facing cruelty. After her parents' death, young Jane lives unhappily with her unkind aunt,Mrs Reed,at Gateshead Hall, mistreated by her cousins.Sent to strict Lowood School, she endures harsh conditions but finds friendship, gains an education, and eventually becomes a teacher there.
Seeking independence,Jane takes a position as a governess at Thornfield Hall. She teaches a young French girl,Adèle,and gradually forms a deep connection with the house's mysterious master,Mr Rochester.Despite their different social positions, they talk openly and fall in love.Rochester proposes marriage, and Jane accepts.
Jane's happiness shatters on her wedding day when a terrible secret is revealed. She discovers Rochester is already married. His wife,Bertha Mason, suffers from severe illness and has been secretly confined in Thornfield for years.Knowing getting married to him would betray her deepest beliefs,Jane makes the painful decision to leave immediately.
Lost and poor,Jane finds refuge with the Rivers family.Taken in by St.John Rivers and his sisters,Mary and Diana, she learns they are her cousins.St.John offers Jane security, asking her to marry him. However,Jane understands this would mean a life without love, sacrificing her feelings and independence.
The story concludes with Jane finding her own path back to love and self-respect.Hearing Rochester's voice calling her,Jane returns to Thornfield to find it destroyed by fire, set by Bertha, who died.Rochester, now blinded and injured because of saving others, lives nearby. Finally free to marry as equals,Jane chooses to be with him out of love. They build a life together, finding true happiness.
The central idea of Jane Eyre is that genuine love and lasting happiness are built on mutual respect, moral integrity, and personal independence.Jane's journey teaches that self-worth is non-negotiable; she refuses relationships based on passion without honor or duty without affection.

阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。
The Million Pound Bank Note was written by Mark Twain (1835-1910),a famous American writer known for humor and social satire.
Henry Adams,a poor American sailor, gets lost in London with no money. Two rich brothers,Roderick and Oliver, give him a one-million-pound banknote as part of a bet:they want to see if someone with this note (but no other money) can survive for 30 days.Henry tries to use the note carefully. At a restaurant,he offers the note to pay.The owner is shocked but trusts him, saying,“Go ahead—pay whenever you can!”
Shops treat him like a VIP,lending him clothes, food, and a hotel room—all because they believe he is rich.He becomes famous in London society without spending a penny.Henry survives the month and even earns money by helping a friend invest. The brothers admit he won the bet.Henry keeps the note as a gift, marries a woman he loves, and lives happily.
The novel mocks how society judges people by wealth, not character.Henry's life changes because others think he is rich—even though he did nothing to earn it.Twain shows that true value comes from honesty and cleverness, not money.Henry's kindness and quick thinking—not the money—bring him real success.
