Urban gardens are valuable assets (资产) to communities. They provide green spaces to
grow sustainable food, build community cohesion (凝聚力), make new friends, connect with the
earth, and much more. So, let’s check out our list of 4 inspiring urban gardens in the US.
Gotham Greens
Where: New York & Chicago
What: Gotham Greens first started in Brooklyn and now has four locations in New York
City and Chicago. Their flagship farm in Brooklyn produces over 100,000 pounds of greens per
year. But it doesn’t just produce healthy local vegetables. It is using high-tech greenhouses with
solar panels to make sure the food grown is healthy and sustainable.
Baltimore Urban Gardening with Students
Where: Baltimore, Maryland
What: The Baltimore Urban Gardening with Students (BUGS) program encourages
students to get their hands dirty and plant vegetables through their after-school and summer
programs. Many of these kids don’t have access to green spaces and have never had the
opportunity to grow food.
Revision Urban Farm
Where: Boston, Massachusetts
What: Revision Urban Farm in Boston works in partnership with the Revision Family
Home-a shelter for 22 homeless parents and their kids. The farm provides these families within
formation on healthy eating, and access to the farm’s fresh vegetables. The organization also
provides job training to help families escape the cycle of poverty.
Swale
Where: New York
What: Swale, a floating food forest located on a large boat, is an innovative project meant
to inspire citizens to rethink the relationship between our cities and our food. This urban garden
serves as both a living art exhibit and an educational farm Food forests are sustainable gardens

Tian Xiangmei is an education major at a university. She has always wanted to use her
knowledge to help others, so she joined her school’s long-running volunteer tutoring program for
children from disadvantaged backgrounds. She never expected this experience would become a
valuable journey of personal growth.
At first, Tian was assigned to tutor Xiao Ming, a 7-year-old boy. Xiao Ming’s parents are
migrant workers, and he was weak at basic math and very shy. Tian tried the usual teaching
methods from her textbooks. She explained math rules and asked him to do practice exercises, but
Xiao Ming still looked confused. He often hung his head and said nothing. Feeling discouraged,
Tian realized that textbook knowledge alone was not enough to help the boy.
Then she decided to change her way. She watched Xiao Ming carefully and found he loved
drawing. So she gave up usual teaching methods and started drawing colorful circles on paper to
explain addition and subtraction. She changed her teaching many times, using simple words and
warm smiles to make him feel relaxed. When Xiao Ming made even a small step forward, she
praised him sincerely. Slowly, Xiao Ming’s math grades got much better, and he even began to
raise his hand to ask questions actively.
Looking back on this experience, Tian said it taught her many important lessons. She
became much more patient and learned pliable communication skills that no textbook could teach.
“Helping Xiao Ming not only made him better at math, but also helped me grow into a kinder and
more capable person,” she said. She believes this journey will help her a lot in her future job as a
teacher.
24.Why did Tian feel discouraged at first
A.She failed to help Xiao Ming. B.Xiao Ming refused to draw pictures with her.
C.She had no idea how to teach math. D.The volunteer program gave her a hard task.
25.How did Tian finally help Xiao Ming
A.By using the usual textbook methods. B.By drawing colorful circles to explain math.
C.By designing cartoon flashcards for him. D.By asking him to do more practice exercises.
26.What does the underlined word “pliable” in the last paragraph probably mean
A.Flexible. B.Fashionable. C.Complicated. D.Traditional.
27.What is the main idea of the passage
A.A volunteer program helps poor children.
B.A poor math learner made progress with volunteer help.
C.The tutoring experience promoted a teacher-to-be’s growth.
D.Education majors can make volunteer work effective.

Previous studies have shown that zebrafish share 70% of human genes, including those
linked to Alzheimer’s disease (AD) , a condition that damages memory and thinking skills. Now,
researchers hope these tiny, fast-growing fish can help test potential AD drugs faster than
traditional mouse models.
In a 2024 study, a team at the University of Edinburgh created “zebrafish avatars” by
inserting human AD-related brain cells into 2-day-old zebrafish embryos (胚胎) . These embryos
act as living test tubes: within 5-7 days, the human cells start to develop the protein clumps (斑块)
that are a key sign of AD in people. For 40 patients in the trial, the fish predicted which existing
drugs slowed clump growth and 60% of those patients later showed mild improvements after
taking the suggested drugs.
“The advantage of zebrafish is that their clear bodies let us directly watch the disease
process under a microscope,” says the lead researcher Dr. Lina Markin. “Cell cultures (细胞培养)
only show isolated cells, but zebrafish let us see how the whole body responds — just like in
humans, but cheaper and faster. ”
Next, the team plans to test drug combinations in the fish avatars. Unlike most clinical trials
(which test one drug at a time) , this method will show which mixes work best. “We’re not adding
extra steps for patients,” Markin explains. “The cells we use come from their own blood samples,
so the process is safe and simple.” Doctors now want to expand the trial: if the fish avatars
continue to predict treatment success, they could become a common tool to personalize AD care,
giving patients hope for earlier, more effective help.
28.What are zebrafish avatars in the new study
A.Models of mouse brains. B.Drugs for brain diseases.
C.Radiation tools for AD cells. D.Living models for testing AD drugs.
29.How do zebrafish avatars help with AD treatment
A.By designing new AD drugs directly. B.By killing AD cells in patients’ bodies.
C.By predicting which drugs slow clump growth. D.By transplanting zebrafish brains into
humans.
30.What makes zebrafish suitable for AD research
A.Their cell cultures are isolated. B.Their low cost and visible embryos.
C.Their complex structure and small size. D.Their similarity to human brain structures.
31.What is the main goal of the expanded trial
A.To develop drugs for AD. B.To test the safety of AD drugs on zebrafish.
C.To find a better treatment for AD patients. D.To prove the process is simple and reasonable.

People who struggle to speak because of a stroke or Parkinson’s disease could
communicate more easily with the help of artificial intelligence. A new model constructs what a
person is trying to say based on tiny vibrations (振动) in their throat, but also takes into account
other factors, such as timing and the emotions they may be experiencing.
Some neurological conditions can result in dysarthria, a condition where people lose fine

control over their voice box, jaw or tongue. Conventional solutions using brain-computer
interfaces (接口) have brought promising results, but users needed surgical operations to place
electrodes on or in their brains, causing unbearable pains.
Now, a group of researchers has used sensors to measure the movement of throat muscles
via vibrations, as well as the pulse in the carotid arteries (颈动脉), to determine a user’s emotional
state. That data is then fed into two large language models, each based on GPT-4o-mini. The first,
known as the token synthesis agent (TSA), aims to extract the intended words mouthed by the user
and group them into sentences. The second, the sentence expansion agent (SEA), takes sentences
from the TSA and uses contextual information, as well as the user’s emotional data, to expand the
sentences into what the researchers describe as “logically consistent personalized expressions that
better capture the patient’s true intention”, compared with those created without contextual and
emotional clues.
When the researchers tested the system on five people with dysarthria, their system
achieved sentence error rates as low as 2.9%. They also found that using emotional and contextual
clues to add to sentences increased users’ satisfaction over straightforward reconstruction of
sentences by 55%.
Russell Beale at the University of Birmingham, UK, says the technology enables users not
to have to think about doing anything differently. “They just do what they did before, and that’s
what good social interaction should be like.” But he adds that interpretation (解读) of intended
communication comes with risks. “It could be a bit discouraging for people if that language model
is saying things in a way that they wouldn’t,” he says.
32.What does the text say about the conventional treatments
A.They bring great suffering to patients. B.They need to monitor patients’ brains
constantly.
C.They make use of computer models. D.They have all got the expected effects.
33.How does the SEA work on the sentence production
A.By collecting and organizing speakers’ words.
B.By lengthening sentences with personal expressions.
C.By combining the context and feelings with contents.
D.By keeping track of the speakers’ true emotional state.
34.What can be inferred from paragraph 4
A.The system satisfied researchers emotionally.B.The system should be applied widely.
C.The system achieved higher accuracy. D.The system should have performed better.
35.What is Russell Beale’s attitude towards the model
A.Uncaring. B.Negative. C.Unclear. D.Impersonal.

How to Improve Your Study Efficiency
Improving study efficiency is a common goal for students, but it requires more than just spending
long hours with books. Here are some practical tips to help you make the most of your study time.
Set Clear Goals
Before you start studying, it’s important to know what you want to achieve. Setting clear, specific
goals helps you stay focused and motivated. For example, instead of saying, “I’ll study math, ”
you could say, “I’ll complete 10 algebra problems by 5 PM. ” 36 . Setting realistic goals
also helps you measure your progress and stay motivated. Create a Study Schedule
A well-organized schedule can prevent last-minute cramming (临时抱佛脚) and reduce stress.
Divide your study time into manageable chunks, and include short breaks to keep your mind fresh.
Research shows that studying in intervals of 25-30 minutes with 5-minute breaks can significantly
improve focus. 37 . Remove Distractions
Distractions like smartphones, social media, and noisy environments can severely impact your
concentration. Turn off notifications, find a quiet place to study, and consider using apps that
block distracting websites during study sessions. 38 . Use Active Learning Techniques
39 . Passive reading and highlighting are not enough. Engage with the material by
summarizing key points, asking questions, and teaching the content to someone else. Active
learning techniques like these help you understand and remember information better. Review
Regularly
Regular review is essential for long-term memory. 40 . Spaced repetition, where
you review information at increasing intervals, has been proven to enhance memory and learning
efficiency. This method ensures that you retain information over time without feeling
overwhelmed.
By following these tips, you can improve your study efficiency and achieve better results
with less stress. Remember, it's not just about how much time you spend studying, but how
effectively you use that time.
A.Instead of cramming all the material at once, revisit your notes and key concepts periodically
B.By doing so, you can avoid the temptation to check your phone or browse the internet
C.Active participation in the learning process makes studying more engaging and effective
D.Without a plan, you may end up wasting time on less important tasks
E.This way, you have a clear target to work toward
F.Taking breaks allows your brain to rest and process the information you’ve learned
G.A quiet environment is crucial for maintaining focus and achieving your study goals

Tian tried the usual teaching methods from her textbooks. She
explained math rules and asked him to do practice exercises, but Xiao Ming still looked confused.
He often hung his head and said nothing. Feeling discouraged, Tian realized that textbook
knowledge alone was not enough to help the boy.(田尝试了课本上的常规教学方法。
故选 A 项。
So she gave up usual teaching methods and started drawing
colorful circles on paper to explain addition and subtraction.(于是她放弃了常规的教学方法,开

Then she decided to change her way. She watched Xiao Ming
carefully and found he loved drawing. So she gave up usual teaching methods and started drawing
colorful circles on paper to explain addition and subtraction. She changed her teaching many
She became much more patient and learned pliable communication skills that no textbook
故选 A 项。
She never expected this experience would become a valuable
Helping Xiao Ming not only made him better at math, but also helped me grow into a
kinder and more capable person(帮助小明不仅让他的数学成绩变好,也让我成长为一个更善

The advantage of zebrafish is that their clear bodies let us directly
watch the disease process under a microscope,” says the lead researcher Dr. Lina Markin. “Cell
cultures (细胞培养) only show isolated cells, but zebrafish let us see how the whole body
responds — just like in humans, but cheaper and faster.
Doctors now want to expand the trial: if the fish avatars
continue to predict treatment success, they could become a common tool to personalize AD care,
giving patients hope for earlier, more effective help.

故选 A。
The second, the sentence expansion agent (SEA), takes
sentences from the TSA and uses contextual information, as well as the user’s emotional data, to
expand the sentences into what the researchers describe as “logically consistent personalized
expressions that better capture the patient’s true intention”, compared with those created without
